So I've been flying the MiG-29C...
MigBuster replied to Apocal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
if changing the thrust doesnt work then its probably a bunch of coefficients that might need changing - maybe in relation to drag on various parts of the body. That is just a guess you need someone who understands flight models really - if you cant get hold of a different model. -
I use the default 3D pit in AF myself - although a bloke called Zerk on the Frugals Forum is developing version 2 of his freeware 3D pit for AF that has more functionality than the default one - check that out if you can If you fly Red Viper(FF4) or Open Falcon then you can get clickable 3D pits and use 6DoF on TrackIR
-
Any sim that doesnt support TrackIR is obsolete IMO - if you can afford it get one - I will never fly a sim without one ever again! Yes TIR works in the Falcon 2D cockpit - Is supposed to allow you to move to the different screens - but is too difficult to control IMO - Basically switch that function off in the setup and use it in the 3D cockpit only where it works as its supposed to.

Yes Just think of a standard DVD as a CD that can hold more tbh. You will Need either DVD-R (write/burn once only) or DVD-RW (write to lots of times) disks There is also DVD+R and DVD+RW formats that some drives support - so you may want to check your drive before buying any disks. My DVD burner supports both - and + types but not sure how common that is.

Nah was about 1 in 1977 so didnt see any of them till the early 80s - but still think they are great. Out of the new films IMO - Episode 1 = Hate it with a passion Episode 2 = Better than episode 1 Episode 3 = Good

Australia goes with Fullbacks?
MigBuster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
"Quote: The recent order of aircraft F-18C/D is considered only as a intermédia purchase until the a acquisition of new ways." Thought they had ordered F/A-18Fs?? They have been up in arms about having to put up with getting ONLY the F-35 and NOT the F-22 - so I'm not sure any SU would really be in their thinking unless it was for Eval . Also if someone actually supplied them to Aus they would have to fit it into an Airforce geared to Western maintenence tech only! -
What flight sim has the best modeling of ECM?
MigBuster replied to TheChief2000's topic in Military and General Aviation
Trust me I really dont have the time for things like that either Many thanks for the info on the thread though -
What flight sim has the best modeling of ECM?
MigBuster replied to TheChief2000's topic in Military and General Aviation
Are most ECM pods capable of both Noise and Deception jamming? Could using noise potentially blind an active missile at close range? Interesting discusion on ECM jamming there thanks - is that information for sure though - are you someone who works in the avionics industry par chance? Back to Falcon F4 ive always felt safer much higher believe it or not - a lot of the MANPADs have missed me at low level but I have been hit before - and that small arms fire is a nightmare sometimes. Also the ground has a kill probability of 1 btw - and ememy fighters have quite an altitude advantage if 1 catches me out - but I admit its a great buzz sometimes taking the risks -
Replacement FE Install File from Third Wire
MigBuster replied to sinbad's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Thats pretty good service - though I always backup any files to DVD/CD straight away - there no gurantee that the online business in question will be there in a few years time :) -
India, Russia sign pact to build combat aircraft

Anyone know what type of gunboats the Iranians have that they can take on a Cruiser, Frigate and a Destoyer at the same time?? the British sailors were in a rubber dinghy when they got caught btw - I can see why the Iranians had the upper hand in that one

The good old media are such a laugh when it comes to computing stories - they grab you with the introduction but dont reveal any truths until further down - think its called grabbing your attention - or lying. In the case above its a scare story to get peoples backs up. Nothing to see here - move along
-
Great analogy there In AF HOJ is modelled also - your AMRAAMs will use it (you will se HOJ on the HUD if its going after their jammer) - and the Enemy R-77 coming back at you will also use it - so turning off your jammer should increase your chances of it not guiding to you.

I dont think the US or allies have come up against any particularly modern SAMs either - Certainly Iraq had modified versions of SA-2s etc, and I cant say for sure what was present over the Balkans - although towed decoys were used to good effect. A modern S300 or S400 networked system would be tough to beat - certainly seems to have got people worried - which is why the 5th gen birds are so important. Sure I cant believe these things written on paper before they are proved - read that one long range varient of the S400 was designed to be an AWACs killer apparently - homes in on the AWACs radar Other SAMs claim to be able to shoot down HARMs also. Im sure Jamming must still be viable - otherwise the EA-18G Growler is gonna be the shiniest target out there when it comes in service

Australian Superbug deal may be cancelled?
MigBuster replied to BUFF's topic in Military and General Aviation
You seen this blog? http://ozzyblizzard.blogspot.com/ Some interesting and unexpected points particularly the comparisons with the F-15E - makes the SuperBug look - Just super btw the proposed F-111S could be a tweaking project for someone to see how well it does though tbh the cost and time of converting them over is laughable - so is the concept IMO. :black eye: -
The Jammer only works from the front or rear aspects - so basically point your nose at the SAMs radar - which will be on your RWR receiver scope. works best with pre SA-10 SAMs - though its not foolproof - prepare to avoid the missile if need be. If its an SA-10 lighting you up btw dont bother with the Jammer - just get out of there The beam you are thinking of is when you beam the missile by putting the incoming missile on your 3 or 9 oclock - this has nothing to do with the jammer. As for tutorials - there is pages of the stuff at Frugals World - just do a search and be prepared to do a lot of practise - there is a lot to learn my friend if you fly with all the settings on realistic. There are also some vids on you tube - so watch and learn - Some girl called Panther has posted some avoiding older SAMs

Russian E-8
MigBuster replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Reading accounts in the Past from the F-16 designers the Intake was going to be further forward but this caused air flow problems so it was moved back to where it ended - that being the optimal position for the best air flow to the engine I believe. -
F-100D Skins
MigBuster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Never heard of the F-100 till I bought strike fighters - like a lot of the early jets I guess - but it does look good and takes a while to get used to flying in these sims - especially when you have just been used to modern jets! I think the Thirdwire F-100D model looks great which is a bonus - and the missions in YAP for the F-100F are just amazing - challenging and scary!! -
14 to 20 miles!!! - I that case then some of these games need to change a bit in regards to visual viewing because I dont think Ive played a recent sim where I can see a plane more than about 3 miles out if that - thank god for padlock - unless my eyes really are going :cray:

What flight sim has the best modeling of ECM?
MigBuster replied to TheChief2000's topic in Military and General Aviation
Falcon 4 AF has some nice touches - The jammer only works from your front or rear aspect - and is only effective until the radar from the other plane has burned through it. Also the jammer makes a nice target for Home On Jam missiles Theres alsways a lot of debate how a jamming pod actually works - because its either classified or too techy for anyone to understand :) - but people say that the pilot flicks a switch and the pod automatically decides the required jamming based on the kind of EM its detecting. Im not sure if any game has towed decoys yet as you would get in the latest pods - AF doesnt have them even though they were used in the 1999 Allied Force conflict I believe. -
Reality Check
MigBuster replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah Falcon doesnt even involve the pre flight walk around to inspect the plane, salute of the crew chief, and then taxi along to the arming pit - call that realistic sheesh perhaps the next version of F4 can include writing a full post mission report each time also -
Hi Mark - glad you got that to run on Vista - knew something must run on it :)
-
The F-16E and F block 60s were a nice surprise - must be one of the first sims to include those versions - shame really cos I dont play any versions of this game past 1983 :) The Mirage Factory stuff has been top notch in all areas The forums have been very active this year which is a plus

India bans Su-30MKI fighters from using radars during 'Red Flag Nellis' exercise
MigBuster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes you would hope - problem with radars is that you have to switch them on sometimes - and those EM waves go a long way!
