14 to 20 miles!!! - I that case then some of these games need to change a bit in regards to visual viewing because I dont think Ive played a recent sim where I can see a plane more than about 3 miles out if that - thank god for padlock - unless my eyes really are going :cray:

What flight sim has the best modeling of ECM?
MigBuster replied to TheChief2000's topic in Military and General Aviation
Falcon 4 AF has some nice touches - The jammer only works from your front or rear aspect - and is only effective until the radar from the other plane has burned through it. Also the jammer makes a nice target for Home On Jam missiles Theres alsways a lot of debate how a jamming pod actually works - because its either classified or too techy for anyone to understand :) - but people say that the pilot flicks a switch and the pod automatically decides the required jamming based on the kind of EM its detecting. Im not sure if any game has towed decoys yet as you would get in the latest pods - AF doesnt have them even though they were used in the 1999 Allied Force conflict I believe. -
Reality Check
MigBuster replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah Falcon doesnt even involve the pre flight walk around to inspect the plane, salute of the crew chief, and then taxi along to the arming pit - call that realistic sheesh perhaps the next version of F4 can include writing a full post mission report each time also -
Hi Mark - glad you got that to run on Vista - knew something must run on it :)
-
The F-16E and F block 60s were a nice surprise - must be one of the first sims to include those versions - shame really cos I dont play any versions of this game past 1983 :) The Mirage Factory stuff has been top notch in all areas The forums have been very active this year which is a plus

India bans Su-30MKI fighters from using radars during 'Red Flag Nellis' exercise
MigBuster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes you would hope - problem with radars is that you have to switch them on sometimes - and those EM waves go a long way! -
Has Sony dealt a decisive blow to HD DVD?
MigBuster replied to Revvin's topic in Hardware/Software Chat
I like the bit about "Format confusion" in there - how could there possibly be any confusion with all these straight forward formats: Bluray, HD-DVD, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW - then theres the great thing of being able to play the different CD formats in most DVD drives also :) Most normal consumers probably wont even know what bluray and HD-DVD are yet - until they accidentally buy the wrong "type of DVD" Its nice that the new formats can hold more in terms of GB to back up with but I am not gonna bother with either till one of the standards actually becomes established - the picture from my standard CRT TV and DVD player really is good enough. -
WOE Stock Hunter FGA9 Fuel tanks not showing.
MigBuster replied to mikeymead's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The stock files wont be in the weapons folder but will be in the relevant .cat file - but that shouldnt be causing this issue The stock lod files for the tanks would be tank230_hunter and tank100_hunter - so if you have any files in your weapons folder with thoese names try cutting and pasting them (don't delete them yet) to your desktop - just to get them out of the folder - so you can put them back again if you need to. Once the files are moved the game should then revert to using the stock tanks again once - assuming of course that is the issue - but no harm in trying till someone who knows comes along :) -
New strike fighter 2 in 2008 ?
MigBuster replied to DamonSchumi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
a variable for each medal type - and then having to display them on the pilots records - surely it cant be done! (ps no "stop calling me shirley" comebacks btw) -
New strike fighter 2 in 2008 ?
MigBuster replied to DamonSchumi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Depends on type and whether you employ the correct launch parameters (assuming you use normal to Hard settings!) I often get 1 kill out of 4 with the early Sparrows - depends on the enemy also if they turn then there is less chance of a hit. The sidewinders arnt really that great until the 9L by default - try to fire from behind them and hope they dont turn to much :) -
Yep once you have the 3D model done (after a bit of practise lol) you then need to get it referenced to the flight model - this is held in the .ini files in a planes directory (to give you some idea). If its an entriely new plane you are doing then it may need a new flight model doing or one tweaking - and that really is a job for an expert (once you see all the variables involved ) Once thats done you need a skin for the aircraft and the decals - this is 2D work though so would be done using a program like photoshop or GIMP. As you can see there are 3 main areas - not many people can do 2 of them though let alone all 3 Obviously you would need a lot of help if you havnt done any of this before but there are plenty of people about who would help you along. good luck

how can i shooting the ground target?
MigBuster replied to kh606fp's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Not sure what you are getting at here - you select the relevant bombs/rockets/missiles before you start the game that will actually destroy the target. Then depending on what you are carrying you can select a bomb and drop it on the target using dive bombing techniques - or you can strafe it using unguided rockets or cannon. You can select a ground target with the 'E' key by default - once done you can then instruct your main wingman to attack it - which comes in useful if you have missed it. Im not sure if that Mig-21 varient can actually use any guided ground weapons at all tbh?? -

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-4AR_Fightinghawk talk about the ultimate Skyhawk!!!! Argentine Air Force technicians chose 32 A-4M and 4 TA-4F airframes from the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center to upgrade. The upgrade plans included: * Complete overhaul of the airframe, wires and the Pratt & Whitney J52P-408A engine * Installation of Douglas Escapac 1-G3 ejection seats * HGU-55/P helmets * Honeywell Normal Air-Garrett's OBOGS (On Board Oxygen Generation System) * Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman AN/APG-66V2 (ARG-1) radar * HOTAS controls and a 'glass' cockpit (3 large CRT screens) * Sextant Avionique/Thales Avionics SHUD * Litton/Northrop Grumman LN-100G inertial navigation system * MIL-STD-1553B data bus <------------------------------------------thats fly by wire btw! * Two General Dynamics Information Systems AN/AYK-14 mission computers * Northrop Grumman AN/ALR-93 (V)1 Radar warning receiver * AN/ALQ-126B jammer * ALR-39 chaff/flare dispenser * IFF AN/APX-72 -
- The A-10 was due to be scrapped due to its questionable survivablity against modern air defences and was probably saved by the first Gulf War in which it played a big part. Obviously your cousin knows what he is doing - but he knows that the A-10 is only viable in a low threat environment as ive stated above. Im sure your cousin would like to explain to us how he intends to evade a modern fighter with look down shoot down radar and missiles that cant be spoofed flying at a very slow speed, because the A-10 is a clay pidgeon against any true fighter with modern missiles and im afraid flying at low level is no longer good enough in most respects. The A-10 was proven to be very robust at surviving manpad hits from older missile types during the first gulf war and I have read many of the pilot accounts. Unfortunately you cant engage a manpad from the air because you only know its there once you see it or it hits you. In fact some of the pilot accounts of the ones hit confirm that they only knew about it when they were actually hit! I have to question whether current IR countermeasures are any use at all against Modern IR SAMs! I would certainly expect most flares to be useless (after seeing recent AIM-9x firing tests ). As for jammers You also have to question what use they are against an active missile with HOJ that guides using the jamming from the actual jammer! - one the enemy radar burns through the jamming the jammers like a homing beacon :) The A-10C im sure will change a few things when it comes into service and should have better warning systems - however beating a missile using kinematics is a lot less likely with the A-10s hopeless speed!! - Yep true - but any 4th Gen aircraft would only be used now once the air defence system had been taken out by better 5th Gen aircraft in a modern AA threat environment. If you have a SEAD escort then they can certainly take out a radar that starts emitting - may be too late to save the poor A-10 though if the SAM is launched from another networked SAM site in a different location to where the radar is emitting from and is an active modern SAM - or it is launched optically. In any case the countermeasures (baring towed decoys) may actually again be useless. - supposing the F-4 has modern systems - with modern missiles the chances of the two merging are pretty remote - but if that were to happen the Mig would have a manouverabilty advantage - though if they both have HMS and modern heaters they may just kill each other! - Guess that remains to be seen - Did the original block Hornets come into service in 1973 then??

Stick 1 round into a spinning Jet engine - that should do it :) -
Well yes its possible - though after seeing lot of discussions nobody seems to really know.
-
Dont really see enough - northing out of the ordinary in a Sidewinder leaving the rail and going right.
-
Ans - No but depends on the environment - An A-10 would be the choice in an area with air superiority and no advanced low level SAM's. Ans - Yes its called the EA-18G and will be in service from 2009 - The EA-6B has been in service since 1971 and is probably not fast enough to keep up with the other Hornets anyway. Ans - The F/A18 came in 1983 - so will be ~37 - the super hornets came in in 1999 so will be 21 :) Ans - You have to look at these things relatively - the Spitfire was made obsolete by the Jet engine - and since then we have had improved Jet engines and a relization that Mach 2 is an adequate top speed - so old jets can still be seen to do the job. Then of course there is the reluctance to spend much on develoment if there arn't that many perceived threats to your country. Ans - The Germans are using their ICE F-4Fs till 2012 so I guess their could be some around still in 2020 Fatigue permitting! Air combat has changed to the point where a good radar and missiles mean that an F-4 is still effective (its still fast enough!) Ans - I dont think they did get a Tomcat and that photo has been photoshopped - as above

The F-22 does all that and best of all wins each category too :)

Adding Sidewinders to Hunter
MigBuster replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The RAF only used it as an interceptor from 1954 to 1957 with 30mm cannon only - it was then considered obsolete as an interceptor and relegated to the ground role. Oman (mk9), Singapore(MK7 ,9, 10), and Switzerland(MK6, 9) had their versions fitted for use with AIM-9s for self defence (1 on each inner wing pylon only) as of 1989. All of these Hunters should have been retired in the early 1990's -
Everything points (not least the Red Flag engagements) that the F-22 will wipe the skies of any current adversary with minimal loss . Maybe in 10 years or so something better may come into service - but only if the funding is there.

Yep its on this video somewhere too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HI28DlR1lw
