  1. Not personally though anythings possible - Operating Systems can be so fragile. There should be no harm in uninstalling then reinstalling the drives drivers based on what you have told me (restart the PC in between this procedure). If you have your Windows XP disk then you should be able to run "sfc /scannow" from the command line (or just type it into the run box) - this checks the XP system files. Then run checkdisk, and defrag your Hdrive I will also say to check the manufacturers knowledge base or website in case there is a simple fix for this! If that doesnt work (and you are using XP/Vista) then you may want to see if you have a recent restore point to go back to. A final option is running a registry cleaner like CCleaner (be very careful with this though!)
  2. So when you removed it using Add/Remove programs did the uninstaller appear to run successfully? If you put the Strike Fighters disk into the drive can Windows see the files on that disk - As in: Open "My Computer" then right click on the CD drive and select "Explore". Does windows list any files? Check the bottom of the disk and make sure there are no smudge / finger marks on it also.
  3. Hmm not a good sign - Did you remove it using Add/Remove programs and have you removed the game folder completely from where you installed it to? Does your drive recognise any files on the CD - and are your other CD's working in the drive ok?
  4. In a ideal world no F-16 should have to carry those things!!! :( Nice work though!
  5. Well if it didnt happen after modding something: Is your hard disk full? have you defragged it lately?
  6. What Are You Doing to Stay "Green"?

Well about 90% of what goes out a week is in the recycle bag these days. Cant afford a new car - wouldn't consider a hybrid because tests on current models show how high the petrol consumption really is. The hydrogen powered car looked more promising - they need to move on that IMO. I use the low power light bulbs, dont leave lights on or things on standby - the power usually goes off at the wall. Air con is not required in England - havnt switched on a fan or fan heater in years - also had a mild winter so Heating was off fully from March!
  7. Live Earth

Well I know the point of the concerts were to raise awareness of the current situation - which it may have done to some people - though I suspect most would have thought it was just another concert. I myself know the situation so another boring concert didn't appeal to me obviously - and I dont see biofuels being the answer due to the amount of crop land needed for the common types. Another slight problem at the moment is developing industrial nation like China and India whose emissions increase every day. Self appointed experts over here tell us that even if the entire UK ditched Cars/planes and went on bikes every where the effect would be canceled out by these other nations within a few years - great! If global warming is a real threat then you can kiss the Earth goodbye - I cant see us pulling out of this one! - though we'll see. Im sure some celebs do care about environmental issues now the bandwagon has come round - the question is were these people like Genesis and Madonna raising these issues in the 70's and 80's?
  8. Firstly if you havnt done so create a new install of Strike Fighters for each campaign you want to install - they wont work well when mixed together. When i say new install you dont have to install from the CD just install SF once and patch up. Then copy the entire game folder for each install and rename appropriately. Once thats done there are lots of issues that will cause CTD's however they are nearly always fixable because they are down to modified files. Finding a campaign thats been updated for the latest service pack is a good start - if not then you may have to spend time testing each plane to see if it works properly - and of course the ground object issue was a big change. The readme's with campaigns sometimes assume the installer knows his stuff unfortunately however - there is no end of info in the knowledgebase on this site - also try searching the SIMHQ archives - nearly everything you will need to know is in there.
  9. Nice one - says it all - I love taking the F-4B on early 60's MigCap missions - is a dilemma how to take them down sometimes if you stick to the visual range rules!
  10. Live Earth

It gets publicity for the bands and another knighthood for Bono and Bob Geldorf usually - Ive no idea where the money really goes to or how it will improve the natural Earth. I don't think the emissions caused by all the people traveling there and the masses of Electricity used could have done much good - I cant even leave my TV on stand by anymore - yet these tw@s can use what they like to sing a few ancient songs and lame covers. The BBC showed the UK concert live from Wembley stadium for most of the day yesterday - which almost guarantees it will be lame. Well in the 5 mins I watched it for it didn't disappoint - on to the stage comes Genesis - and off goes the TV - so it reduced my carbon footprint a bit anyway!. There was a rumor on f-16.net that flying time for air forces is likely to be cut and Pilots use flight simulators more - well that is a positive step to curb emissions if ever I saw it - cos you would have to put a gun to my head for me to give up my car for more than a day!
  11. I cant remember TBH - though theres an open slot for anyone who wants to investigate that. I guess you could try making the AA missiles use a LargeSamTrail effect or something.
  12. Depends the SA-7 that can be downloaded here has never fired at me although the SA-7 bloke in YAP does fire at me. There are a lot of differences in SeekerFOV, gimbleLimit etc in the weapondata.ini - I havn't looked into what will fix this yet. Then theres also the issue of how well the early model SA-7 could even target a fast jet in the real conflict.
  13. Probably here under effects http://www.sfmods.com/ Can see the SAMS okay for sure - can see the AA ones when they wizz past - not sure what distance you see them at though.
  14. Probably just an ini edit if you mean the F-104's title - but if that all youve done - just reinstall and mod the new install - its up to you really.
  15. Nah mine only rotate - any moving white puffy things usually means a Deuces enhanced SAM is on the way!
  16. Yeah BVR's just not Cricket - what happened to 2 men of honour dueling in similar flying machines - hopefully we will get some better counter measures soon!
  17. You saying that the 1990 sim F-29 Retaliator I had on the Amiga got it all wrong!
  18. Ive upped the WP missiles in WOE using the Weapons editor - you can change some of the values to make them as accurate as you wish. Have also downed the AIM-9L - that seemed too good! The R feature at least gives you a direction!
  19. If you have done a lot of Mods - To backup everything you can simply COPY the entire game folder to another location and rename the folder to SF_Backup or something (check you have the space to do this - about 1.5GB). then: 1. uninstall the game 2. reinstall the game - (making sure you dont over write your backup!) 3. Apply patches 4. Take what Mods you need from SF_Backup and plonk them into the new install. 5. Then remove the SF_Backup folder when done
  20. Well it must have cost related but I would have taken the F-4 if I had the choice like them.
  21. Need directions

Do you change the advanced profile for your card - setting things like Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering? - you may want to experiment with setting those values to see if anything improves.
  22. Your best bet is to use better smoke trail effects i would think.
  23. Who is Looking Forward to Transformers?

Silly me - I should have just gone to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundercracker I had the original set of these too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerialbots Maybe wish I hadn't sold them all now - they may be worth something!
  24. Who is Looking Forward to Transformers?

Had to think about that one - the original F-15s were Starscream, ThunderCracker, and Skywarp in the UK
