SF Gold problem

Did you actually install the latest version of Direct X via the link on Thirdwires site - or are you assuming you have the correct version? There are several Versions of Direct X 9c -
PhotoReal Terrains Available NOW at RAZBAM
MigBuster replied to Edward's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Im with you on the quote about the quality of the free models available for the Third Wire series - a lot are top drawer - guess thats what you get when something is made with passion and not to a deadline. Users of the free Mods have a lot to be thankful for IMO -
Apparently any radar can detect a Stealth plane - its the range that the plane is actually detected - thats the issue.

Well I bought the HiTiles for Falcon 4AF - which were 12$ (£6) so I don't have a problem with these. The only problem I can see now is that the account page where you put in all your personal info and password in isn't encrypted as far as I can see - kind of the first rule of eCommerce really - they need to sort that out! Actually Edward - are you setting up a paypal thing like YAP uses - that should be more secure - and I will actually buy them then. cheers! -
Daft questions
MigBuster replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In real life im sure most of use would certainly honour this! However in Falcon 4 that KC-135 that stutters around the sky (intentionally i might add) is on borrowed time! -

Leaving WoV
MigBuster replied to Sgt.KAR98's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I always run the exe to my desktop - then manually move the files in myself in case it tries to replace the weapondata.ini or something - then i uninstall or just delete the downloaded exe and files from my desktop. The auto installer usually only puts the files in the correct location (if you specify it) - it wont sort out other things. eg if the Mirage is specified as a nation not already in the game - it wont add the nation into Nations.ini - also it wont auto install any drop tanks weapons - these have to be done manually using the weapons editor. - its likely that the game may be looking for something that hasnt been done. Yeah also I periodically back up my installs to DVD - even if i need to start again from fresh - eg when a major service pack is released - I can just move mods back over from the old install. Its nightmare losing a modded install that s been building up over time - takes ages to do the thing in one go - plus you need to find all the mods again! -
Well im still waiting for tangible evidence of their finished stealth projects tbh. The first Wikipedia article also mentions the use of plasma stealth which seems to be just a unworkable theory still from what ive read.

So I assume you downloaded something from here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...amp;showcat=134 If there is no readme - then basically extract the files (you may need WinRar) to a single folder on your desktop. Find the main planes folder - called something like F-5E and copy and paste to: C:\......\Wings Over Europe\Objects\Aircraft so it sits along side the other planes in your game. The plane is now installed - if you have weapons/tanks to install then there is a nice article on page 2 of the knowledge base: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 The weapons editor and latest file extractor can be downloaded from this site. -
Crash to destop when click on fly
MigBuster replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Did you back up the dll's you replaced? Did you run the sfc scan? You will have to search the Microsoft Database - Direct X becomes part of the Operating system so I dont think you can remove it properly (though there are programs that claim to do this). Make sure you have the correct Direct X version from MS and run it from its installer - dont manually copy files over. Also look up on how manually replacing dll files can be backed out - if at all If still no joy then try this: Back up any Mods you want to keep to a different folder. Uninstall the games fully from "add/remove" programs only. Manually delete/move any game folders/files that the uninstaller leaves behind. At this point you could use CC cleaner to clear out any rogue thirdwire entries it picks up Install a fresh game from disk to a different location (dont patch or mod) and try it out. If still no joy then you can go on experimenting with what it may be - but you may have to consider reinstalling or repairing windows XP - which aint too bad a deal these days - providing you have all the drivers for your hardware (or know what your hardware is) - and back up everything you need to keep to external disks - and have the licence key/XP disk http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/s...xp/install.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/h...ips/doug92.mspx ps - this is a last resort and at your own risk entirly - there is plenty of help on the net if you need to go this route. -

If you mean regedit - then my advice to anyone is not go there unless you know exactly what needs to be changed - -Tristan above may be referring to deleting entries to thirdwire sims - you may end up having to rebuild the PC if you are not careful though. The point being that to get it working you may need to remove a few things before you can start from scratch again. Basically back up any key changes if you have to do this. This registry cleaner is good and has various other tools for seeing whats on your PC http://www.ccleaner.com/ again careful with what you remove You could also run "sfc /scannow" from the command line (may need the windows disk) - this just checks your protected windows files are ok. Also not a fan of system restore - but may be worth a shot if you have a point saved just before things went wrong -
Newb Questions about SFP1
MigBuster replied to Stretch32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You should be able to use a lot of Mods with SFP1 - my advice is: Read the readmes for each mod; Test 1 mod at a time to make sure it works - ie dont try and do too much at onece - it will be a mess! Best to create a new install of the game for each Campaign - dont need to install it again - just copy the entire game folder to another location - rename it to WW1 for example - then use the sfp.exe file in that install to run it as separate. The readmes are usually poor documentation and assume you already know things so also see the knowledge base on this site; If you get stuck ask here or search old posts here and simHQ - most things have been covered. -
Crosshairs?
MigBuster replied to Kiwi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Not sure what you mean here - With Mavericks do you get an Infra Red picture come up where the radar display is when you lock onto a target? With any A-G weapon apart from dumb bombs and ARM's you should be able to lock a target and then fire the weapon. -
Yep its happened - ive joined the sodding Slovenian AF! - theres a post on Frugles too - and 1.10 is probably the cause

MIGs Vs Thuds
MigBuster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
A WOE campaign does tend to saturate the skies with Migs - just like the real thing would have been - totally unlike Vietnam was though. Speed is really a life saver in WOV cos the default Soviet missiles are on par with the AIM-9B it seems so they have to get in close for a gun shot. I rarely try to turn the thud unless its clean - even then its a dog to turn - best to avoid the Migs if poss. I have also noticed that the WOE Migs are more likely to chase you all the way home if need be -
MIGs Vs Thuds
MigBuster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The one thing I will say about Migs in this game is - Just as you start to ignore them one will fly up behind you and get you without you even knowing about it - you will just flinch in surprise as you realise uve bin had! Also its pretty likely that a Mig-17 (usually the culprit) has been following you on a lot of your missions - u just havn't seen him yet. I tried to outrun 2 x Mig-21's (not sure of version) in a F-104C (2 Sidewinders) in WOV once and they stuck to me and caught me on full burner - and blew me out of the sky - If they persist they can be nasty. (I am using the uber AI mod btw). On many occasions (WOV/WOE) I have flown under a flight of Migs and they havn't noticed me - this makes sense if you are below radar. Many occasions in WOE where the Migs are always high they do tend to come down to me. The Mig-19 is a rare thing and seems to be a much more powerful Mig-17 so can out turn you easily. Luckily the AI in this game means you stand a good chance even in a turning fight. Stick the Mig-29 AI pilot from Falcon 4 in the Mig-19 in this game though and I cant imagine ever winning a turning fight! -
WOE carrier camp, vector to home base, wrong location?

Nah - You can include Mods but only if everyone online has the same changes as you.
