  6. Windows 10 S released

May be if interest if only to avoid getting stuck with the apps in the Windows store Note - Window Home/Pro is going no where - this is just so you don't get stuck with this version at home for whatever reason. Windows 10 S is Microsoft's latest edition of Windows 10, but it's different in one particular way: It's locked to the Windows Store. Windows 10 S is Microsoft's newest edition of Windows 10, with one specific change over previous, "normal" editions of Windows 10. This new edition of Windows 10 is locked to the Windows Store for all your apps and games, meaning if you want to install apps on Windows 10 S, you can only do so if said apps are available in the Store to begin with. This new edition of Windows 10 is actually aimed primarily at schools and the education market. It's more secure, since the ability to run app from outside the Store isn't possible. Because of this, you should hopefully see a minor battery life enhancement too, as users won't be able to go and download battery intensive Win32 apps unless they're in the Store. Yes, that does mean Windows 10 S can run your traditional Win32 programs as well as more modern UWP apps. Windows 10 S isn't a "lite" version of Windows 10. It's a full, standard version of Windows with the only difference being the fact that in order to install apps, they must come from the Windows Store. http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-s https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-s
  7. Windows 10 S released

To me it makes sense if you look at the target audience............like Businesses, schools don't need kids pissing around with non secure OSs and would prefer the kids just did their work without having to pay for IT guys to constantly remove viruses etc that smug kids have put on. It probably wont be perfect but will definitely stop a lot of problems. Businesses have to do a similar thing to stop most of their employees wasting time & their money downloading free spyware with their free games etc. Classic Windows 10 Home and pro likely wont change that much in coming years especially as non computer literates who just use Farcebook mostly move to Tablets & phones - the windows geeks will be using it.........and if you like combat flight sims like me you are stuck with Windows for now anyway (forever?). It still dominates the desktop & Laptop scene and the Surface is easily on par / better than anything Apple ever put out and is one of the very few laptop replacements (even though it is essentially a laptop with the keyboard on it ) Windows has a massive foothold in business, and a lot are tied in especially where massive investment went into unique corporate windows applications that you cannot simply replace without X millions and years....so it is going to be dominating there for decades. The Apple version of Windows (MacOSX) still doesn't have that much more take up on the desktop / laptop as Linux does hilariously, Android / iOS are only mobile OS with Apps mostly geared to small screens and mobile use - they are not fit for typical work usage, in future they might release desktop versions with keyboard /mouse (or whatever) support sure - will see what happens but don't be surprised if Windows is still there.
  8. Dan Hampton is back to discuss a wide range of issues. Last time we talked, our conversation ranged from women in the cockpit to employing his beloved F-16 to kill the enemy. This time around we cover everything from the USAF's plan to keep a portion of its F-16s flying until 2048, to the service's pilot retention woes, to America's strategy in Iraq. As usual, "Two Dogs" has strong views, and is unafraid to share them. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/9455/usafs-deadliest-f-16-pilot-talks-f-15-retirement-syria-and-pilot-shortage
  9. Think it has mostly always been this way regarding the regular sales - the Steam arrangement appears to be different.

  11. How to properly use dumb A2G munitions

Good to see Andy Bush's article still available and in use. Half the challenge is learning manual dive bombing although I don't remember CCIP being in the SF series until maybe WOE or later? cant remember...........so many a campaign were achieved manually in the A-4/F-100 etc. If you ever go on to DCS some of the Jets there (F-5E/MiG-21bis ) include some techniques in their training missions...........and they also include some systems that help (manual reticule position)......although this doesn't make it any easier.......and it often comes down to something like dropping at a certain speed / altitude / dive angle / aim point with any wind correction. But whatever just means a lot of practise...and ideally max settings campaign in the F-100A at least :)
  12. F-15 Retirement.....

Don't see why the F-16s could not replace the older F-15Cs and still retain the other missions.......plus if the cost is lower.....but it is all up in the air anyway..and either way its just patching holes until they are both replaced. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/usaf-pushes-back-on-f-15-retirement-435721/ The prospect of an F-15C/D fleet retirement cropped up during a House Armed Services Committee hearing last week, when members of Congress asked USAF leadership whether the Boeing aircraft could be replaced with Lockheed Martin F-16s. While the director of the Air National Guard entertained that concept as a possibility, the air force’s public affairs quickly pushed back on the idea, saying it was “pre-decisional.”
  13. That could a be a clue.............Did you just update 7 or start from scratch? You might be alright - what graphics drivers are you using? I have set each SF2 to run as admin and I do run it on a separate SSD (not on C)

  17. RAVEN

Brilliant news Raven - well done!!
  18. Red Eagles flew MiG-17Fs and PFs with hydraulically boosted controls and Gail Peck does mention it is very sluggish with the boost turned off (in flight test)......they should have a handle by the throttle (like on the MiG-15bis) to turn it on/off. He does also state that the faster you flew the more muscle it took to move the control column. This was especially true with roll commands to the aircraft, even with the hydraulically boosted ailerons. Above 400kts in a dive he still needed to use 2 hands on the control column to roll or change pitch with added G.
  19. Ian black talks about flying the Lightning, Tornado F3, Mirage 2000 and being a nav on the F-4 Phantom. He tells some great personal stories as well as talking about each of the types. As well as his flying career he also chats about his books and being a photographer.
  20. FPS variation is normal you can lock it using Vertical sync...........which tries to keep it around 60fps or a multiple from what I remember. I don't use that in SF but do on some other games. You can also set it to adaptive in NVIDIA settings...............its often a case of making a change and testing each time with these settings.
  21. F-35 Red Flag Kill Ratios

More information on Red Flag in this article from Air International if anyone's interested...........looks like Draken were up with A-4s as aggressors also! F-35A Red Flag Debut AIR International March 2017 pp6.pdf
  22. F-35 Red Flag Kill Ratios

One post has been deleted...........yours and you know why. If your entire contribution to this site now consists of you popping up to troll threads then expect to be treated accordingly. There are other forums such as Key Pubs that cater for people like you on a daily basis....you will be most welcome there.
  23. F-35 Red Flag Kill Ratios

From the address to congress they really went for it on the red side with as stated countermeasures and advanced tactics...they can also respawn sometimes right next to a blue flyer :) So not just red air but integrated high end defence setup at the same time.....49 advanced SAMs for 51 bombs dropped is pretty eye watering considering the type of SAMs they simulate and have access to. So no surprise it did so well because that was what it was built for after all going to places 4/4.5 +++ etc can't access it appears. The figures are dependent on the setup....and could improve..............back in the early 80s in a different world USAF F-16As racked up 80:1 against F-4s and Lightnings acting as MiG simulators and also hit all the ground targets (was primary AG exercise) Missions or sorties? They lost 7 in 207 sorties as the address to congress reveals. Where are the specifics of each of those missions? (ac/type/threats/mission/EW used etc). As the USMC guy states though exercises already run............ you can do a similar thing with a lot more 4.5Gen aircraft if you are happy losing half of them in the process.
