As isolated incidents these two events would be bad enough, however Loss Of Control Inflight (known as LOC-I ) is now the leading cause of fatalities on modern airliners. Since 2006 43% of fatal incidents on airliners have been due to the inability of the aircrew to operate the aircraft. Nor is it an Airbus issue, Asiana managed to bounce a 777 along San Francisco airport after the crew, including a training captain, failed to understand the autopilot logic and stalled on short finals. Three of the 307 aboard were killed, two of whom were notably not wearing their seat-belts and were flung clear of the wreckage suffering blunt force trauma, possibly from being run over by a fire tender. https://hushkit.net/2016/09/19/generation-xbox-may-kill-you-why-you-should-be-afraid-of-flying/

Being a hobby site, over the years the policy has been along the lines of: If you don't like a mod you have downloaded, delete it from your hard disk. If you don't like a mod then you are free to improve it yourself and you can distribute it with the relevant permissions. If anyone gets arsey about a mod you have spent months creating from free then you can also report them to the moderator team and we will be happy to educate them in basic manners.

R-27R Missile for Marcfighters Su-27 with YEYEYEs classic cockpit
MigBuster replied to MiG29Fulcrum's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
R-27 would be AA-10A/B/C/D and don't think these were in the stock game. Have you installed any missiles into the weapons folder? -

Submission and rules can be found in DCS forum Preview Look at New and Improved Maps Coming to DCS World Although we started DCS World with a focus on aircraft modules, we are now adding new maps to the mix. We feel that maps are just as important as the aircraft, and they need to display the same high level of quality and span different time periods to match our aircraft. We are currently working on three maps: Caucasus map for DCS World 2.5, DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range (NTTR) map for its final release state, and the Normandy 1944 map to support our DCS World War II series. As these projects wrap up, we will continue work on the Strait of Hormuz and other maps. We will also continue to improve our maps with new technologies that will further improve their features, looks, and performance. We expect to release the updated Caucuses map for DCS World 2.5, the final version of the NTTR map, and the Normandy map this year. Last week we had a look at improvements for the Caucasus map for DCS World 2.5. This week we would like to share some work-in-progress images of updates to the Nevada map and some new images of the Normandy map. Have a Great Weekend! The Eagle Dynamics Team -

Merging Mar 2012 SF2NA with SF2 (other 3) patched to July 2012
MigBuster replied to Slant6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You would have to get an exe for SF2NA at July 2012 to do this if possible...is there still an archive at the TW site? Or if you have the disk space can you do a new merged install with everything and patch to where you need it or are some of your exes July2012? -
Jug is sadly no longer with us to answer that. Not certain if Jug meant they didn't use them because the missiles were all beaten by height and speed and Jammers came on but were not needed in that sense. From what has been declassified from the Oxcart program, the A-12 certainly had multiple jammers and did use them over Vietnam. As for the SR-71 that will no doubt come out in time.

F-15 Strike Eagles Over Saudi Arabia: Then And Now
MigBuster posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
Richard Crandall started his Air Force flying career in the F-111 Aardvark, but found himself in the cockpit of the mighty F-15E Strike Eagle, the service’s newest jet, during Operation Desert Storm. Although F-15C/D Eagles were already a staple in the Royal Saudi Air Force by the time Desert Storm kicked off, the Strike Eagle would eventually find its way into the Kingdom’s aerial arsenal in the form of the F-15S. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/4381/f-15-strike-eagles-over-saudi-arabia-then-and-now -
Combat Air Patrol 2 v807 Live - Modding added
MigBuster posted a topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
v807 - beta CAP2's v807 is now live on Steam under the 'BETAS' tab. Access this by opening your Steam library, right click CAP2 in your games list then choose 'Properties' then 'BETAS' and opt into 'beta - Faster Release Branch'. Going forward we'll be using the beta branch for first release of updates followed by posting to the main branch a couple of days later after taking into account any issues and feedback. v807 Features Mission Planner UpdateImproved UI allowing modification of mission assets, routing, armament. ModdingYou can now mod the Harrier fuselage texture enabling custom tail art etc. Look in the 'Mods' directory (from the Steam client look at CAP2 properties as above then click on 'LOCAL FILES' then 'BROWSE LOCAL FILES'), there's a readme explaining texture formats etc. Coming Updates... VR The basic VR renderer is complete though not enabled in v807 as any camera other than pilot view is guaranteed to induce nausea! I found this out the hard way after thinking 'how bad can it be?'. Well, it can be pretty bad if you're spinning cameras around planes etc. Rather than remove the offending camera modes etc I've decided to render any non VR compatible camera (basically everything apart from pilot view) in a 'cinema mode'. This is simply a virtual 2D screen rather like being sat in a cinema. This means we keep all cameras, intro sequences and UI unchanged. There's a couple of things to finalise regarding cinema mode scaling options then we'll enable VR. FYI we currently use the OpenVR api to support Vive and Rift and plan to add Oculus API support soon for native Rift support. In-flight Refueling As part of overhauling/updating missions we're adding an air tanker. Initial version has a rigid drogue, we'll switch to a physically animated version later. New/Updated Models In addition to the air tanker we're adding a much improved carrier model with deck objects such as tugs and cranes. http://devblog.sim155.com/2016/08/v807-beta.html -

http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2016/08/operational-assessment-of-the-f-35a-argues-for-full-program-procurement-and-concurrent-development-process Conclusion The F-35 is an expensive platform, but it is notably more effective and in many cases cheaper than any other four-plus-generation multirole fighter in the world. No other nation’s fielded fighter would fare well in an engagement against the F-35, and no other multirole fighter currently on the market would survive, much less thrive, in a modern-day high-threat environment. The United States needs to fulfill the F-35A’s complete fielding and look at the concurrent development process that brought it to fruition as a model for similar rapidly growing systems and technologies. —John Venable, a former F-16C pilot with 3,000 hours of fighter time, is Senior Research Fellow for Defense Policy in the Center for National Defense, of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, at The Heritage Foundation.

Can only go with the people who know on that: Hostage caused a stir in late spring when, in press interviews, he said the F-35 would be stealthier than the F-22, its larger USAF stablemate. Conventional wisdom had pegged the F-22, with its angled, vectored-thrust engines, as a stealthier machine than the F-35. Hostage also said the F-35 would be unbeatable when employed in numbers, which is why the full buy of aircraft is "so critical." "I would say that General Hostage … is accurate in his statement about the simple stealthiness of the F-35 [with regard] to other airplanes," Bogdan said in the interview. The statement was accurate for radar cross section, as measured in decibels, and range of detectability, he said, and he scoffed at the notion that anyone can tell how stealthy an aircraft is just by looking at it. http://www.airforcemag.com/MagazineArchive/Pages/2014/December%202014/The-F-35-on-Final-Approach.aspx In the computing world the F-22 computing architecture is old hat compared to what has been put in the F-35, you would literally need to rip the whole lot out to provide the same throughput and use similar sensors like EODAS (AAQ-37). You have much newer standards like SAE AS5643 (1394B variant) to push all that information around and that is the real key here to gather, manage and share information. I have seen various rumours regarding why the F-22 is not exportable and avionics might have been part of it when the decision was made years back...but that would seem ridiculous today if it was the only reason. The point was that Combat proven is not a reason to keep or upgrade an old airframe..........there are plenty of old combat proven airframes you could upgrade..............but even with the upgrades they are still not the F-35/22. Even if you have the space you need to deal with extra weight distribution, structural loads and even then you are stuck with a non stealthy airframe. No one is going to spend the money on a platform like the F-15 that will remain inferior regardless. Did you see the queue for the Silent Eagle concept? ..............no neither did Boeing and there are pretty good reasons for that. Various unit costs put the latest F-15 as similar or more expensive than the F-35 basically due to economies of scale and it's tad doubtful you will be able to get 2 new F-16Vs for the price of 1 x F-35 on the same basis either. Regarding hot weather......somewhat doubt that will make too much difference but I am sure you will be able to see in the future. The basic US F-16Cs looks significantly cheaper to run per flight hour...........less so the US F-15Es again depends on what figures you want to use. The majority of countries buying upgraded F-15/16s will be ones that don't have access to the F-35...... The bottom line is that F-22/35 are not conventional fighters..they are not mere upgrades of the 4th Gen concept........they have enabled very different tactics.
-
Anyone with the opportunity to get F-35s will get them once they get the facts and see its actual capability......they will be getting a capability that nothing else provides. In regards to sensors/computing power/stealth and A-G payload it is superior to the F-22A (F-16 also cannot touch the full up payload) and like other foreign operators so far I suspect Israeli pilots will be surprised at what it provides them compared to the "combat proven" jets that like the F-86 etc have had their time. New modified F-15/16s rolling off the lines today are in reality not cheap (or cheap enough) and are poor value considering they are not even on the same planet and most certainly cannot perform all the same roles as F-22/35.

Flying the Iconic Swing-Wing F-111 Aardvark at the Height of the Cold War

http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/4595/flying-the-iconic-swing-wing-f-111-aardvark-at-the-height-of-the-cold-war After giving us an amazing inside look at flying the F-15E Strike Eagle and how its presence in Saudi Arabia has evolved, Richard Crandall is back. This time he paints an awesomely in-depth picture of what it was like strapping into the cockpit of the legendary F-111 Aardvark during the tumultuous final decade of the Cold War.- 1 reply
