USN say farewell to the S-3 Viking
Snailman replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
Ahh, so it's not that bad. However I still don't see the meaning why to develop new stuff to replace stuff that is already good for the role - development again will cost billions and the gain would be minimal. Fighter planes are different, but such role-specific planes are not in the need of tech-race. Greyhound is better than V-22 in cheaper and more simple construction (and range) if it's about transport - maybe that would be a choice if they make an anti-sub V-22 unsure however, if it worth the effort. S-3 as tanker, I though they are doing it already... or KA-6s are still around? Or they will do K/A/F-18 buddy-refueling like russian Su-24Ms?? Sorry guys, just a bit frustrated - I, we, were grown up on Final countdown and Flight of the intruder I feel the loss of the childhood warm feeling.. no US carrier can exist without Tomcat or Intruder... no. not without Viking and of course the Seaking. Now they dump everything for "super" Hornet and the small, single engine, brutally expensive, not-even-VTOL F-35C... Gross. -
USN say farewell to the S-3 Viking
Snailman replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
What the... ?? Everything will be done by F-18 F-35??? It will end up towing trailers and passenger capsules... spray tank... and of course a plow, too On an anti-sub plane what can go obsolete? Electronics...? upgrade it and go. -
I always wondered how many of us might play it)) I started with Pacific fleet - damn it is addictive.. I can say. And then - a strategic level with Atlantic fleet.. no words to describe this game))) There's only one problem with it, that my PadFone 2 gets overheated in an hour or so (((( Indeed I'm curious about the PC version.

OMG )) My first thought was... what the hell happened to this poor Crusader))) A Fallout mutant version)) -
Yet another moment when we realize, that our icons are very mortal and yes they can get old... Unbelievable still. RIP.

It is also interesting how they handle gun ownership, as well. And notable the difference in number of murders too.

Ehh... it was quite an amateurish way to express "I hate you for some reason and I will ridicule and contradict whatever and wherever you post". 32% at best. I wonder what you had written if I started to eulogize this excellent piece of... sci-fi art. PS.: If you were reading what I wrote - you could have figured out I quoted people whom I watched the movie. But never mind the details.
-
I watched the movie yesterday. I'm very sorry... I will not rant here may offend someone.. I may tell detailed review... if someone asks, after I calmed down. It has been discussed through an entire night of "men drinking together" with ten of my friends.. To be short I just quote some of them. And that's all from me. "This was the worse SW experience ever felt." "What the F* was that??" "Cheap New Hope nostalgia remake" "I thought we cannot sink deeper than Phantom Menace..." "Where was the music? I can't remember I heard anything... can you" "@#$*@! Harrison Ford, he always hated SW and his Han Solo character... but to kill him like that. Spit into our face as SW fans... <hungarian equivalent of "F word' said 20 times>" "I have a feeling, that no one really wanted to work on this episode. Director, script writer, music composer, old characters... everyone... 30% or less of their best performance" "Rey was the only enjoyable character... without her, I would have stood up and leave at about half the movie" "Mediocre... I have seen it the second time, I got over it more or less - but I had the same first reaction. I understand your feelings" "I celebrated when Lucas left... now I ended up crying him back... "

Ulyanovsk - Updated LODs
Snailman replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
And Z component in the catapult vector will not help either. The Z component (upward pointing) gives the plane an initial lift off from the starting point - the launch vector will be a parabolic path. I exploited this to emulate AI VTOL operations fro Yak-38 and Helos on the Kiev class. Some combinations can be a compromise... make experiments. I'm happy for successful carrier launch - it was already hard to eliminate automatic crash in certain planes. -

That's really sad... but maybe if he's still around he might give us permission for modifications? -

I have a similar case with the Kuznetsov. I think both need a serious upgrade. We have Su-33 already and will be helos soon. I am retexturing Kuznetsov and would be great to do the same with the Ulyanovsk. Would be good to remove number and name from it too. I have decals for it with the naval aviation crest and name too. -
For there are stupid and evil people, the majority must not suffer. But it is a general rule around the world it seems. And this system is vulnerable to staged events that used to support and justify such "regulations". and gun control... the terrorist, the criminal, the insane (and the well paid) can and will always get weapon. Control only deprives the opportunity of self defense from the law obeying majority. The only thing that can stop an armed bad guy is an armed good guy. Those who shit on the law will be in advantage - the state (police etc) protects only the system it serves. But the holders of power want to keep their privileges of drone spying, weapon ownership, free speech and whatever other rights they want to deprive from the citizens in their sick paranoia of loosing their position and control. The more you tighten their grip, the more will slip through their fingers. ON topic... What defines sovereign airspace over my own garden or land? For I could say anything flying (at what altitude??) over my grain fields trespassing my area of ownership? On my estate, I do what I want - or not?

Speaking of birds... when they will ban carrier pigeons or hunting falcons?
-
That must be true, but it's just a mask. It would be enough to set a No-Drone-flight barrier around airports. No, they try a global solution - because the real reason is different. Same stuff like gun control... But I don't want to get into politics here. Just stupid. Or contrary, too clever.

RC Cars and ships can kill too. Martial artist can kill too... with bare hand. They should either register their hands or only allowed on the street in handcuffs... Age of Idiocracy. EDIT: Not to mention fully functional RC Submarines... !!! Damn I have to build one... till it's legal

I just can't find the words to describe this madness going on... Did humanity enter into a bottomless pit of imbecileness?? A new dark age of witchcraft, heretics and inquisition, flogiston and disk-world?? "they agreed upon a quota... they, representatives of 195 countries voted for not increasing the Earth's atmospheric temperature by more than 2 degrees Celsius" and, "coastal countries demanded for 1.5 degs" My friend's 10 yo. daughter asked (she's the one who still watches TV) - "Now they will go up and turn down the Sun-switch?" Typically, the situation when you don't know you should laugh or cry... Processor frozen. Press any key to restart. After some head scratching whether to start the story from Galilei and Giordano Bruno, I just suggested her to change to the cartoon channel...

The Documentary Sea Legs Retold
Snailman replied to ironroad's topic in Military and General Aviation
I never thought FSX has so much detail on carriers... hangar... lights, people, the ball.... And the cut of the documentary - professional indeed. A feeling that the scene is alive. I miss that a lot -
Only the good die young? EH Rust in Peace I agree with WD. I have a very evil WD Black in my server... although it has 3-4 visitors a day besides me

R-27EA in service?
Snailman replied to dtmdragon's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
R-23 missile has semi-active radar guidance. That mean is needs target tracking. At least until the IR seeker activates (in case of and IR variant). Such medium range missiles have far longer range than any IRST sensor - even the best ones can detect only tail-on afterburners from 20km or farther. R-24 was different (I had to read in some books) - you are right in that it had the first inertial type guidance. This means it was following a preprogrammed mathematical target until the target was actually locked on by the guidance radar - then the passive seeker head was homing on the illuminated target. In short it could be launched without a locked tracking radar thus avoiding all jamming. It also used monopulse seeker and it was the most jamming safe missile produced that time. The R-27 series also have inertial guidance but with radio command correction. It can also receive updates on the command line (mostly from a phased array radar), but it can get near the target on it own data received before launch. In the terminal phase depending on seeker type, it can home on radar illumination (semi active, need a lock), active radar, IR seeker or passive radar seeker that homes on the target's own radar signal (AWACS or jammer plane). OFF. heard info on the TP-23 IRST of MiG-23 was claimed much better than the KOLS on the MiG-29... similary they say RP23MLA Ametist radar was more accurate and stable than the Rubin on the MiG-29 -
Thanks... That's was nice. Especially the second one.

B-52 Feature- America's iconic war machine
Snailman replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
B-52 is more like a ship, as a weapon platform) And ships never get obsolete till there is will and effort to maintain.
