The engine nacelles and the canopy are different from the N-1M. The right side profile in both shots are identical. I have seen this aircraft up close. at Edwards AFB. It is a beautiful work of art! Jack Northrup got it right.

Actually the plane in the picture is the N-9M-B. It was a data gathering 1/3rd scale version aircraft for the XB-35 flying wing. This particular aircraft is based in California at the Chino Planes of Fame museum. It has been a frequent guest at the Edwards AFB airshow. She flew a displaced fly-by with the B-2 bomber in 2004. What a sight to see. Please see the attached pictures Skelator

Fifth generation fighters

Hello, I found the F-23A (Version 2) and loaded it to my database. What a blast! The MFDs and weapons loads are great! Does anyone have an update or know of any work that is being done on a F-22A Raptor? I saw something a while back, on a J-39 grippen and it looked like it was about ready to post, but I have not seen any thing on it since. And on another note; Thank you Zur for making a great rendition of the F/A-37 Talon (from the movie 'Stealth'). Any more word of a beta version 3? I would like to say "Thank You!" to all the great people who have made this sim so fun to fly. Have a safe New Year ! Keep the 3 "A"s in the green! Skelator -

Actually the YJ-93s were designed for continuous operation at the speeds that the aircraft traveled at. True the aircraft was a hypersonic wave-rider. The range was a factor of getting up on the hypersonic 'Step' and then cruising at Mach 3+. Hypersonic drag is still a factor even at the speeds that the B-70 traveled at, henceforth the continuous operation. Skelator -

I understand the limitations of the Predator aircraft but what I am talking about is the X-45 project. The survivability and capability problem was solved with this very stealthy design and will evolve with the larger capability that the X-45B and X-47 will have. I was stationed at Edwards AFB during the development and test phases I, II, and III of this program. I also have ties to El Mirage and Nellis. It had it's problems along the way (like all new project) but quickly overcame them. The control vans that the crews are in are really something to behold. It will come to a point when the aviator will be in a synthetic cockpit many miles away from the actual aircraft. This can happen within the next decade. Wright Patterson and Brooks are already testing these advanced systems. These birds are flown the same way that the Global Hawk pilot/computer/aircraft interface works. But I agree with you in that our legislature will not allow UCAVs to go into combat completely unaided. Believe me, it will be a sad day when we take the human out of the cockpit. You are doing great on the F-35. I posted the cockpit pictures for the F/A-37 folks. They seem to like the redhead! I tried to down load some other three views from Code One magazine. It has all the versions in a planer view form. Maybe you can get them to transfer. I look forward to flying your F-35! Check Six Skelator -

We learned from that (remember Vietnam?). That is one reason both stealth aircraft have guns. We've learned from the past and now the manufacturers, developers, and test folks are listening to the guys and gals in the trenches. At least for this iteration. We'll se about the UCAVs. Skelator -

I know that many people out there love the Flankers. I have been in the industry for quite some time and all I can say is that both of our next generation fighters really have no equal. I know this is hard to believe and I was very skeptical at the onset of the development phases of both aircraft, but it will not matter if you are in a knife fight or BVR, these aircraft will utilize what we describe as the "Unfair Advantage". What we have now has made me a believer. These will probably be the last inhabited aircraft that we see for some time. The powers that be think that the Uninhabited Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) will be the wave of the future. But until then.... Check Six Skelator -

It is called sensor fusion. In the industry it is called an Electro-Optical Sensor (EOS). Imagine an undetectable sensor that can see 360 degrees on the X and Y aspect! Skelator -

Hello Zur, I am a new guy to this site. I've had SFP1 and WoV for about a year now and enjoy the Talon that you have made! As for your stealth pilot, I have a picture of the proposed HMD, flight gear, and seat that the F-35 folks are looking at for their aircraft. I cannot wait to see the final iteration! Maybe this will help too.... Notice the complete glass panel. This is actually a total of 16 seperate screens. There is no HUD. Everything is mounted onto the visor of the new helmet. The seat is good for ejection that will exceed those of the A.C.E.S. II chair (which has a 98% sucess rate). The canopy attached in the front and has no rail (as seen on the X-35). I will see if I can find some F-35 plan views in my files. I will get back with you soon. Skelator -

I used to be stationed at Edwards AFB. The wing droop stabilized the aircraft at the mach 3 speeds that it regularly flew at. The B-70 was known as a wave rider, if memory serves. This meant that the aircraft would actually ride the hypersonic shockewave that it produced while traveling at such speeds. The National Aerospace Plane (NASP) was a wave rider as well, but it used a different aerodynamic shape to get the desired results. The B-70 was the answer to many problems that were brought on by advancements it the Soviet SAM system. The powers that were in charge at the time stated that she was obsolete before she even flew. However, the a new trend is to develop a stealthy mach 3+ aircracft similiar to the B-70. It seems like North American Rockwell had it right. Skelator -

I would like to try this aircraft out. Can you tell me where 'A-Team' is located at? Either at this site or if they have a web page (I'm still kinda' new at this!) Have you tried the B-52D yet? What a thrill! Skelator -
HUD Gunsight/CCIP Problems
Skelator56 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Has anyone else seen this problem? I've attached a screenshot of what I keep getting on a few of the aircraft that I have added. It only shows up on a few types in the gun or Bomb select mode. The reticle can be seen on the instument panel. Maybe someone can help me find a way to put the site behind the panel and on the HUD only. Thanks Skelator Please see the attached screenshots. -
Possible cockpits for F-22 and F/A-37 use
Skelator56 posted a topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
All, I found these pictures from a free source. I thought that they would be great for use in the F/A-37 Talon or an upcoming F-22 cockpit if anyone is developing one. I am new to Sims but I would like to learn how to build a usable cockpit template. If you can help me with this or lead me to someone who I can learn from or give the information too, that would be great also. I currently have access to a RA-5C cockpit layout and a B-58. Maybe I could help develop a VC for these aircraft as well. I will attach the files that might be usable for the F-22 and Talon. They will include a view of teh Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) JSF seat and a view of the new flight suit for the JSF. Cheers! Skelator -

weapons problems
Skelator56 replied to grumpapotamus's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello all, I am very new at this but enjoy the game (WoV) immensely. I purchased WoV about 1-1/2 years ago and was able to add various aircraft and weapons packages. About 9 months ago I added the Weapons upgrade from Jan 06, I beleive. All was well. I even had the Phoenix AIM-54 for the Tomcat add-on. However, I lost a fair amount of weapons and capabilities after I added tha latest weapons package from July 06. I've re-installed my game and gained a fair amount of weapons back. I found an old file of the ThirdWire F-104G and added that to my aircraft file. It shows up with tanks but no Air to Air missiles. The same holds true for the aggressor A-4E. I would like to dabble with the weapons Editor (and have cautiously looked at the file). I would like to know how to add weapons to other aircraft but I see from weapons editor PDF file that this is an advanced technique. Can you help a "Newbie" with this without me destroying my aircraft files? Any and all help would be appreciated! Have a "Bandit" day Skelator -

F/A-18 carrier ops
Skelator56 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Can anyone help me with adding Add-On aircraft to WoV or SFP-1 carrier Ops? I know that there are a few missions out there but I am having trouble adding them without crashing and then having to reload my sims. I saw an RA-5C on another site, The email author and had somehow set up a mission that would let him fly the Vigilante from the 'Boat'. I tried to add the CVN-75 to SFP-1 but I must have done something wrong. I saw the Libya mission for Strike Fighters (F-14s) and tried to follow it by the letter, but again to no avail. Any help would be helpful as I am new to adding missions/etc to either sim. Can this be done with the A-7E, F-14 and F/A-18? Thanks, Skelator -
Weapons update and other questions
Skelator56 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello all, I tried to add the new weapons patch to my WoV and SFP-1 files after adding the latest SP 4. When I went to install the latest weapons package, both games would crash and I would get an error message. I have deleted my old file and reinstalled fresh versions of each game. Now I only have baseline weapons. Previously, I was able to add the older Weapons package (01 Jan 06) and was able to use many new weapons. I must say that the new IR weapons on the latest SP work great but I sure miss having an AMRAAM! On another note, I saw that a flight simmer (At SimHQ) had added an A-5B to the Linebacker II campaign and was able to launch from the boat. Is there a way that I can plug an F-14 or F/A-18 to an existing campaign? Also, are there Fresnal Lenses (Meatball) that can be added? Also, how does the animation key work? Does anyone have a working F-22 out there? Still a Newbie but getting better and having fun! Thank you for your time, and Check Six! "Skel" -
Aircraft Carrier options
Skelator56 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello all, I'm new to WoV and STP 1. I tried to add the CVN to "Single missions". Being new, I must be doing something wrong. The CVN shows up in my objects file but I am not sure as to where I should go from there. I read the periodical from another website on how to add carriers but this was unsuccessful as well so now I know that I've not got something quite right. After I get the carrier added will I be able to launch and recover with the F-14 and F/A-18 and early to late '50's fighter aircraft? "Skel" -
