  3. Few beginner's questions

I would also recommend FE2. With the great mods available at CombatAce you will have a very thorough WWI flight sim in no time, and there are lots of planes available for FE2 that neither OFF/WOFF nor ROF have, particularly for the early war period. The only thing we don't have yet is multiplayer but maybe it's possible to re-activate multiplayer in it (I noticed that some of the latent code in the game is for multiplayer, which was available in FE and FE Gold) - I hope to tinker with the multiplayer component once I finish tweaking another dozen or so flight models for the aircraft. In short, you can't go wrong with FE2 - very customizable and open-ended (sort of like a Linux version of a WWI flight-sim but in a very good way and done right). Happy flying, Von S
  4. Feb. 27, 2016 Update: Includes corrections to top speeds for the Fokker E.Ia and IIa, and for the Fokker D.7 and BMW-powered D.7. Also to be found in the latest version are early Fokker types such as the B.I and B.II, in the relevant theatres. 6. Thank you for the kind words, and glad to hear that the tweaks are providing more realism to the FMs. I'll look into the old Fokker B.2 - I don't have a Skunkworks account (I've heard it's a slow process to register there) - but will see if there's an old Fokker two-seater here on the CombatAce site - since it would be good to have an early German plane in some of the campaigns, especially in my Middle East and Western front folders for the period before about August of 1915 when the Eindeckers show up. I'm now revisiting the Fokker E.Ia and E.IIa since their top speeds are around 128 and 135kph currently, but I'd rather see a top speed of 130 for the E.Ia and something around 138kph or so for the E.IIa (the IIa in its later variants, with the 100HP Oberursel engine, should be close in top speed to the E.III). Also being revisited are the Fokker D.VIIs - the Mercedes-powered one should be a few kph faster than it is, and the BMW-powered one I will try to bring up to about 200 or 201kph that is sometimes recorded as its top speed (making it about 12kph faster than it currently is in my previous FM tweaks). I'll release those tweaks as a "6.5" update. Update 7.0 will be a big one, improving the Lebed 12 for the Eastern front, the early Martinsyde for the Middle East theatre, several plane types and seaplanes for the Western front, and a Nieuport 10 in several folders (Eastern front, Western, also Italian). Happy flying, Von S

  9. Fabric Furball!

Superb modifications! These are very beautiful skins and mods, and the inter-war biplanes are very classy. I look forward to trying out some of these late 1930s/early 40s mods once I go through another several tweaks of aircraft FMs for the '14-'18 period. Von S
  10. Jan. 6, 2016 Update: "Ver5" includes successful modifications of my previously tweaked line of Pfalz Eindeckers (their tail skids no longer get "stuck"). Also included now are a Caudron G.4 for the Middle East theatre, as well as a Nieuport 17bis for the same theatre (some of these types were in possession of the Ottoman Air Service by late '17/early '18). Please read the included and thorough "Read Me" for more info. Happy flying, Von S

  12. Hi Nick, Thanks for your interest in the tweaked FMs. I'm currently working on a few more models, and will revisit the Pfalz Eindeckers to modify some things about the landing gears and tailskids, so that they don't "stick" to the ground upon landing. The data inis that are missing Peter01's "AIData" section are most likely several of the stock ones that came with the game itself; those I modified for correct top speed, rpms, sensitivity of aileron roll, rudder/elevator effectiveness, etc. - but didn't add any new sections to the files. Many of those same files lack entries for dogfight skill level since they were stock. Also, I think that some of the older Eindecker models never received a Peter01/Ojcar update but are the ones originally done by TexMurphy, Laton, and others many years ago - those might also be some of the data inis that are missing dogfight skill level entries. Since I'm already talking about the subject I'd like to mention subtle differences between the 80HP Morane Bullet and the 110HP Morane "I" modification for the Eastern theatre. The Morane "I" is a heavily tweaked modification of the Peter01 update for the Bullet. The Morane "N" tweaks on the other hand are based on the earlier Morane Bullet data ini done before the Peter01 additions. My reasoning for that is that it gives a "spectrum" of different performance types to have the earlier Bullet on one data ini file, and the Russian one on the other - tweaking the two allowed me to get them feeling close, but also different at the same time. I'm now thinking of how to proceed with further tweaks to the Pfalz Eindeckers, whether or not to re-modify all four types (E.I, E.III, E.IV, E.V) according to Ojcar's additions to the FM files, or perhaps to keep the E.I, E.III, and E.V as close to my current modifications, and perhaps re-modify the E.IV only along the lines of Ojcar's additions - tweaking the files then in a similar way to what I did with the Morane Bullets - to get a "spectrum" of types - with the E.IV similar to, but better performing than the other types. I hope to have the updates ready in a month or so. Happy flying.
  13. Thank you for the interest in the FMs: I hope to work on some of the more obscure types over the next couple of months, such as the Savoia-Pomilio SP.3 and Lloyd C.II for the Italian theatre, also more of the seaplanes. Von S
  14. What do we need?

Thank you for this Ojcar: will test those alternative FMs for the Pfalzes and will see if I can integrate some of the code into the FMs I use, to "unstick" my Pfalzes from the ground. Von S
  15. What do we need?

Hello gents, Thought I'd post my question here since there's no specific thread for it and lots of people seem to be reading this one. The mid-wing monoplane Pfalzes (E.I, E.IV, and E.V), when they land, or if they are initially on the ground, can't take off - it's almost as if their tail skids get "stuck" in the ground and no amount of power will release them. I've fiddled with the data ini settings several times regarding this problem but it is still there - and was also present even before I started tweaking the data inis. Everything else about the planes is fine, but they still seem to get "stuck" to the ground upon landing - very odd. The parasol-type fighters, such as the Pfalz E.III - do not have this problem by the way - and neither do any other planes in the game (the Fokker Eindeckers are free of this problem too, as are the Morane Saulnier monoplanes). If anybody has any thoughts on this let me know here or PM me on the site - maybe there's a data oddity in the date ini files for the Pfalz E.I, IV, and V, regarding tail skids, that I've overlooked. (I'm running First Eagles 2 by the way.) Happy flying, Von S
  16. Jan. 2, 2016 Update: Additions in "Ver4" include the experimental Pfalz E.5, the early Morane-Saulnier H, a couple of seaplanes (Sopwith Schneider and Rumpler 6B1), also the LVG C.II for the Western and Farman F30 for the Eastern fronts. As well included is the Roland D.2a in the relevant theatres. And several plane types have been revisited (the Caudron G.4 data ini file is now a modification of the latest G.4 upload from 2015 by Stephen1918; the Rumpler C.1 is now less twitchy; and the Russian Morane-Saulnier "I" is now even more historical). Happy flying and Happy New Year, Von S
  17. Jan. 2, 2016 Update: Several new plane types added, and a few previous types revisited and modified further. Please read the "Read Me" included for more info., and Happy New Year.
  18. A great idea. I'd like to see such a utility for FE2 (but I'm sure the SF2 version would work fine for FE2), maybe also that it allow for tweaking/modification of different aspects of the flight model - and with the ability to "save" the modifications. It would certainly simplify the process of editing flight models (currently a time-consuming process that requires direct tampering with the data ini files, several times over, before going on to the next data ini file). Happy flying, Von S P.S. Thanks Do335 for the links above - will check them out.
  19. Thank you for this Capitaine. It works beautifully even in FE2, and even with the single missions across my different theatre installs. Really fine stuff. Von S
  20. What do we need?

A quick follow-up that the Saulnier H data file (for Aug. 1914) works fine in the Eastern (Galician) front theatre and also in the Italian front folder, and in the Western front theatres. It's then likely that something in the Palestinian install limits dates of action to no earlier than Jan. 1915 - historically that's when an Ottoman attempt to raid the Suez Canal began and kicked off the Palestine campaign of WWI. Nice to see historical dates being incorporated into the game. Von S
  21. What do we need?

Thank you once again Ojcar and Stephen for the helpful feedback. Have now found out where the problem was. I was testing the MS H in my Palestinian front install, where for some reason nothing before Jan. 1915 is recognized. Once I placed the Morane Saulnier H in my Western front install, everything was fine and I can start at Aug. 1914. The only code needed for it to show up at the chosen date is "ServiceStartDate" in the plane's data ini file (there was no need for me to tweak the Options.ini file). Very interesting stuff. Probably the files in the Palestinian theatre install limit things to aircraft start dates of no earlier than Jan. of '15. Happy flying, Von S
  22. What do we need?

Thank you Ojcar and Stephen for the feedback. Yes, I toggled the date slide/choices in the game, and also the dates in the Options.ini file, as well as the start date in the data ini file for the Morane Saulnier H. Still doesn't show anything earlier than January 1915 in the in-game "create mission" panel. I'm thinking that it's probably a limitation in FE2? Perhaps FE1 and FEgold don't have that minor problem. Happy flying, Von S
  23. What do we need?

A great idea, but even if I set the date earlier than Jan. 1st of 1915 in the data ini files, for service start dates - the game itself (FE2) shows nothing earlier than Jan. 1915 in its menu - so this might be something to keep in mind in terms of historical realism (then again, most of the planes flying in August of '14 were still around for the first half of '15 too, at least). There may be a hack to let the game menu itself show dates earlier than Jan. of '15 - but I'm not aware of one. I noticed the problem (a small one really) while tweaking the data ini for the Morane Saulnier H (and what a fun little plane that is, will post soon). Even though I set its start date as August of 1914, it shows up as Jan. of '15 in the in-game menu. Happy flying, Von S
  24. Hello gents, A brief followup to the extra space that I noticed in some of the 80HP Morane N data files (and that has now been fixed in the latest upload): if for some reason you can't delete those few previous files with the extra space in the name, check out the program 7-Zip - it works well. Simply rename the old files in 7-Zip, and then delete them. The link to the program, if you don't have it, is: http://www.7-zip.org Happy flying, Von S
  25. Hi Paulo, The corruption in question was an extra space left in the file's name (at the end, after the INI) in the Morane Bullet for the Italian front, Middle Eastern front, and Western front (the 80HP version) in the "Ver2" folder. The issue has been solved in the latest zip file that was uploaded a few days ago (go into the relevant theatres in the "Ver2" folder of the latest upload and the problem should have been resolved). Do let me know if the problem still persists for the 80HP Morane N data files - brief info. on this fix is included in the latest ReadMe that's in the zipped file. Happy flying. P.S. Have now noticed that one or two of the 80HP Morane N's in the "Ver1.5" subfolders (in "DataFilesAdditions") also had an extra space in the name; the problem has now been corrected and a new zipped file uploaded.
