Ugh, Sounds rough. I have these devastating EAW moments all the time. :) Any luck on getting the files to work correctly?
-
okay.....anyone using the most recent DxWnd Wrapper? and do you have exported profiles for your EAW .exe games? I'm thinking about going to a new version myself , but I don't really know if there would be any benefits to do so...let me know if anyone found some use for a newer version of DxWnd please.....
-
aw, man. I'd imagine a lot of things don't pan out. Your use to it though right? Sorry, it sounded promising.

Nice work and discovery VBH. Do you or will you have a list of the filenames for each slot? (I'd like to add it to the fxexe-patch page...)

Guns shoot by them selves (v1.28c AoE 2022 Edition)

Guns shoot by them selves (v1.28c AoE 2022 Edition)
MarkEAW replied to Sase9696's topic in EAW - Support and Help
Thanks VBH. Been too long since this has happened and I forget exactly what the issue was. I wasn't given much info to go on in the first place. :\ But yeah, when the stick is configured and then you start up eaw.exe without it, the game clears the configuration. Like VBH did say. :) If Windows loose the device ID then this happens as well, like VBH said. :) -
Guns shoot by them selves (v1.28c AoE 2022 Edition)
MarkEAW replied to Sase9696's topic in EAW - Support and Help
I swore I had info on this issue, but I'm not seeing it on my EAWHS site. I remember I think it had to do with a misconfigured eaw.ini. I would make a rename of your eaw.ini to eaw.ini.old and then run eaw.exe to build a new eaw.ini file to see if the gun shooting issue goes away....without messing with the control configuration. -
Sounds like it was an issue with Win7 32 bit and nGlide 2.10. Maybe report it to Zeus the makers of nGlide? Glad it works.
-
Good point VBH, But I wouldn't even know where to start to replace plane files on a 1.28 EAW GoG version. I would say to just "install v1.2" if you can get your hands on it...I don't know if gog will let you get/Download1.2 without issues since you already got there 1.28. But anyhow it should be working with nGlide, maybe its a win7 32 bit issue with nglide working. I'd hate to confuse the matter, but there is the 'open glide wrapper' which is older than nglide, it may work as it sends the video to OpenGL rather than Vulkan or DirectX. His card/driver should support OpenGL properly, since it newer than the wrapper itself. (GT 1030 is an 2017 (year) graphic card. I was thinking it was something else before.)
-
It might be the 1030 is too advanced, but it should have worked in directx backend from nglide. I'm not sure what's going on really....sorry. You could try to rest to default your 1030 vid card settings, in it's control panel. I run nvidia here with default settings these days and nglide and dx gog work fine with most the settings. I'm un familiar with win7 32 bit, but it really shouldn't matter much given the game does run on Win7 in either mode. I'm surprised the 32 bit version has 1030 drivers for it.... Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
-
Well I tried to configure nGlide to get the display results your getting and I can't match it. Is Nglide on your system set to backend rendering DirectX or Vulkan? Try switch to one or the other Set the refresh rate on nglide to match your monitor. Try Vsync on in nglide. Double check you have the glide2 .dll in your game folder....does nglide 3dfx logo appear before you enter the flight screen?
-
Stick with the 1.28 GOG installation for now, as it will be easier to work with. Are you using a laptop with an integrated GPU or APU, or intel one?
-
ugh, geez, ModRed would probably be able to help with the AOE installed standalone game mod, since he added the new 3dz models and textures. But that's version 1.28c, maybe a special version by Jel for that mod. Not sure what's going on, however GOG 1.28 EAW comes with Nglide, maybe an earlier version than 2.10, I think its only a local copy, meaning you don't need to install nGlide to the system. But if you installed nglide AND are using a local copy of it maybe that's interfering with the wrappers normal operation. Uninstall nglide and use 1024x768 res for glide mode on those 1.28 versions. The local copy of nglide should take over if you have things configured correctly. (GOG has a DirectX wrapper too that comes with it. FYI. I use Direct X mode most the time). I'll help you if you need more info.....

yeah, I don't recall this issue happening. What version of EAW are you using? and what glide wrapper are you using on which Windows OS? Maybe using the wrong settings in your glide wrapper? I won't know till you respond.

SimHQ old Historical Forum EAW Archive 2000-2008?
MarkEAW replied to MarkEAW's topic in EAW - General Discussions
Yup. That topic link inside just goes back to the current forum now, no historic forum. -
Alright, over the past week or more I have been moving files about and doing up some indexing on the html files. If you find I'm in error somewhere or a file is missing let me know! Thanks.
-
Wow, nothing. I'm not surprised as the game only has a small close following. Anyhow, take it easy everyone. :)

Just wondering for those that visit and use the EAWHS help site, if you could suggest anything for the site here for me to make or put together to expand and for reference to help others? Or say any other feedback here about my site. (URL in signature, log in to see it). Thanks.

From what I can tell a month ago the issues was fixed by MS. So I'm thinking GOG users can run the super eaw.exe anyhow, now and not have a career save error.
-
More on the Pilot Career EAW save error. I don't seem to have anymore issues with the pilot career saving correctly on any version or type of the EAW game. Its seems the GOG version of EAW is working on Win10 now too. (not a GOG update though) It seems sometime that MS may have corrected this problem with an update to WindowsOS. It may have well effected other games and programs. I'm not sure. Is anyone still having issues with GOG or STEAM, saving career files?
-
To make sure your career/campaign can be saved, make sure your using the wrapper profile I provide, here: https://eaw.neocities.org/files-my-downloads.html You need to have a wrapper that can cure the save bug that cropped up in windows 10 in Dec 2023. The DXWND wrapper has a patch that your able to select to ignorefilesaveerrors. Unfortunately with the GOG eaw.exe super version 1.2, the included gog wrapper was made before this bug cropped up. So you actually have to use the original MPS 1.2 game exe and wrapper it with DXWND to avoid the save bug.

The Pilot career and the over all campaign designed into EAW is most playable on v1.2. The EAWPRO has a set of files you can download extra, to give the v1.2 campaign while still using many of the effects and improvements in the FXEXE. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/l0g2lap23wi39/game-patch-fxexe That link is to get the EAWPRO patch and the extra Career Target and FMs Files for it.

Steam and Gog versions use s new external locally placed dll file. That supports the high Frames. Using a mod like AOE 2022 Edition will only deviate from that dll. (BTW where did you get the AOE mod? Don't forget the patch.) As indicated before, Windows Compatibility fixes (registry changes) can interfere with a wrapper, in this case its this glide wrapper. Some wrappers like the DxWnd Wrapper have the ability to ignore it with a setting, others you should clean out the reg of that setting, or rename the game exe will do it. (Just don't forget to always use the wrapper when running the renamed exe , as native mode running will re-add the reg entry). Then your back at the start. Also I already noted that the filenames can be changed for the game exe when run under a wrapper guidance. This shouldn't be done without being wrapped. (native mode). It's really nothing new, people have being getting 64FPS for months now with the DxWnd Wrapper. and like you said 60FPS at the res you specified.
-
Now that EAW is running well in the DxWnd wrapper, its has been quit here. :) Anyhow, anyone still having issues when EAW is run in the DxWnd wrapper (and that had DL my custom profile settings for that wrapper)?
