I know that a guy named Modred has made an extensive Italian version of the game. https://www.moddb.com/games/european-air-war/downloads/european-air-war-italian-version-120 But what would I need to just get the menus and the text in Italian? I just want to be able to use the language files into 1.2 without having to use a huge downloaded add-on. Just two CDFs? There's the "official" v1.2 Italian patch, but its limited. I'm not sure how official it is, its a small patch perhaps put out by one of the early publishers? https://www.mediafire.com/file/2m99w8dc7l2wx50/eawv1-2i.zip/file I got it to open and install, but I'm not sure which files that it patched. It didn't show it.

My latest recommendation for Win10 users is to use the DXWnd DirectX wrapper as it gives the game a 64FPS and now provides fog, even for Nvidia cards. Maybe turn off or disable Virtualization on your motherboard if the game runs slow. I turned it off here, I wasn't using it and my frames returned to 64 in the wrapper, instantly. Please see my site for Wrapper links, settings downloads and you can read the wrapper info on my site. Plus whatever else you need. ;) https://eaw.neocities.org/

Missing Horizon Fog and Terrain Shimmer
MarkEAW replied to MarkEAW's topic in EAW - Support and Help
NP VBH. I've updated the 12 stock DXWnd settings file. (same link) It had one or two settings you don't need, such as fake win95...once in the wrapper the game doesn't need to be fooled in that area of the settings. So long story short, I went through it and corrected any settings I left on in error. ;) -
The wrapper programs/the game where slowed down by my system not being fast enough I guess to handle Virtualization at the same time. So they performed poorly. I turned it off and my system is faster and within wrappers I get next to if not full speed for the eaw game. The frame rate is still halved in Win10 of what win7 can do, but the wrappers in win10 now are getting 64FPS. This is with Direct3D Mode and with FOG working.

Okay here's the first release of it. I forgot to mention in the readme that its hooked for direct input and has a virtual joystick. That will allow you to configure the game flight controls to keyboard and cam to mouse. (I don't think the virtual Joystick if selected in game will work) Its best to stay with keyboard until you get a physical joystick. Missing Horizon Fog and Terrain Shimmer
MarkEAW replied to MarkEAW's topic in EAW - Support and Help
FOG Support Development Doc: https://developer.download.nvidia.com/assets/gamedev/docs/Fog2.pdf I ran into this years ago too. This mentions how DirectX7 supports it as well. Seems to include a lot of detail, includes the W Fog info Z Fog ,Table pixel Fog and Vertex Fog. Indicates which old RIVA cards supported fog..... Most of it is over my head. just thought I post it before I delete the link. heh. -
Missing Horizon Fog and Terrain Shimmer
MarkEAW replied to MarkEAW's topic in EAW - Support and Help
I'll post a link in the EAWPRO Club for a wrapper configuration file used only for EAWPRO latest release.....see you over there. -
Digging the 16 plane count and the extra squads increasing that. Why you think they only had 12 planes in the stock game?

Missing Horizon Fog and Terrain Shimmer
MarkEAW replied to MarkEAW's topic in EAW - Support and Help
Thanks. I found some good settings in the DXWnd wrapper, hence why I provided my settings file. I also found out my machine had Virtualization enabled in the bios and it cut the frames per second down by about 15 frames(so 20fps I was getting) on top of the win10 system slow down. So I'm getting the 64 FPS in both wrapped 128 and 128gog again. Version 12 is way up there again.....I'd have to go back and see what the actual FPS are for it. -

BTW if you need a DXW configuration file for EAW I can send it to you right now. Its the wrapper settings already setup for you. The best settings known at this point, for the DXWnd Wrapper listed in previous post above. I'll upload it to mediafire when I get a chance...then I'll link it here. (for stock EAWv1.2) https://www.mediafire.com/file/nr0y38shqwx3m1q/EAW12_%28Stock%29-DXWnd.zip/file There are a few settings in there that are not needed for unofficial versions of the game. Hence I can provide a separate .dxw file with pre made settings for another version....just let me know! -
I've recently found out that the DXWnd Wrapper (v2_05_96_build) that performs almost equal to the GoG released game can now supports forced fog in the game. http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/ I updated my troubleshoot help doc to reflect this. Basically its one setting "Force W-based Fog". (under the Direct3D Tab on the wrapper). Previously tested on early builds of this wrapper and the setting wasn't working. So its a neat find now that it does work. I haven't found how to clean up the Terrain Shimmer in any D3D Wrapper. However OpenGlide not only restores fog, but tends to the Terrain Shimmer as well. https://sourceforge.net/projects/openglide/

Anyone try this? Just wondering. :) lol. I recently seen the listing in the ACT tool also now includes the registry compatibility parameter that win10 sets. I'll add to the act help doc when i can to include what that means for me and others use of it.

Thanks Pips, the review will take separate efforts to get it done. Not sure what ECAP is.....? (EDIT, oh its ECA Panel, sorry, now I know) But I think I address the other mods in the files section. Like extending the readmes that come with them by adding more notes. Some , if they have installers with them , they might not run on 64 bit machines. Thats the main reason you might have problems. Stab, I vaguely remember its a file manager for mods, not sure if it works today, on modern WindowsOS. If you can create a separate thread per your topic in support, I can and perhaps VBH can help also. :)

Thanks VBH. lol, yeah me too :) Its just a hobby though. I'm still working on it. Still separating out topics into sections. Then re write a little to make it sound like one review. One thing I think I forgot was to save the authors names of the said reviews. But I do think I saved their reviews at mediafire, most of them. Anyhow I tried to point out facts and numbers/values to go along with some of it. lol. Like I think its 256 planes in the air at once of 30 types? (or was it 20 types?). something like that.

I'm currently working more on the EAW Full Review: Its only really 10% me since I decided I should combine all the old 1998 and 99 reviews of EAW into one and try to correct errors in the information. It will allow thorough review of the game and should include v1.1 and v1.2 fixes at least noted where a negative bug is told. Its primarily for v1.0 of EAW, the 1998 reviews. then there's the v1.1 info I try to remember to post in the review to insure the reader knows a bug or condition was fixed in the MPS patches. Right now I'm combining three more detailed reviews into the help doc, so if there is anything you want in the review such as if there's errors in the info, let me know. Most old post in forums about EAW in early 1999, complained authors never updated their reviews for MPS official patches. They stayed with v1.0 or v1.1 for the content. So hopefully I'll get the to add where apparent, the patch info. Anything to add let me know here, thanks. Here's the current update. Some (actually a bunch) of information is reviewed maybe 2 or 3 times , said in a different manner since there edited paragraphs, and not yet move into the main and staying info usually above it. I'm breaking it down into sections just for this review. Normally I would just list topics with a few sections, here I have split some of the topics up into more sections, you'll see more soon as I complete moving the information over to this help doc. But here it is in its current shape: https://eaw.neocities.org/full-review.html (perhaps refresh your browser to see the latest post of that page :)

IDK what this file is. But he use to inc his own eaw.ini configured file with his downloads...not sure why, its a bit confusing. You should delete the ini and let the game create a new one perhaps. Oh and use the support forum for your support questions if you can. :)

MarkEAW replied to combatace444's topic in EAW - Support and Help
Its called aspect ratio. The game was designed for square CRT monitors back in 1997. I think theres a way to stretch it so it looks sort wide, but really is not. Might be a Nvidia control panel setting under the scaling options. Its under Adjust desktop size etc... on the left...under scaling...Your monitor can scale or your vid card can do it, or no scaling. (I'm doing all this from memory as you really need to read my eaw help site to get the details). I'm to lazy at the moment to do all the looking up stuff again and again. :) But if you need more help, keep asking..I don't have a problem with it. OH: You can have higher res in the eaw.ini if your using DX mode....so if you can try out a DX Wrapper maybe you can get what appears to be a wide shot from the cockpit. Please read my different Help Documents on my site. https://eaw.neocities.org/ -
black squares during smoke need help please
MarkEAW replied to combatace444's topic in EAW - Support and Help
1024x768 I think is the res you want in EAW.INI file. You can change the res in nGlide to exceed what you have in the eaw.ini file. Your image looks as if its using pillars, thats what it suppose to do to keep things square. It might be too close depending on the version of EAW your using, which version are you using? -

Yeah, dgvoodoo I never got the directx part to work either on Win10. Try nGlide and use the Glide mode in EAW. -

MarkEAW replied to combatace444's topic in EAW - Support and Help
nGlide I think installs to the windows system folder by itself. Other Wrapper programs should be pasted in the game folder or close by for easy use and configuration. You'll have to set the eaw.ini file to Glide mode, I forget right now what number it needs to be set too. See my Help docs. -

MarkEAW replied to combatace444's topic in EAW - Support and Help
Neither do I. It might be a simple setting in the Nvidia Control Panel, or might not be. Maybe use a Wrapper, maybe a nGlide or a D3D one and set your game to use which ever mode (renderer) you'll be using. Its in the eaw.ini file in your games folder. -

MarkEAW replied to combatace444's topic in EAW - Support and Help
No Idea. Looks like the transparent color is not transparent. (It appears the trees are the same way?) Maybe its a setting on your newer video card that I'm not aware of. What renderer are you using in EAW, Software, D3D or Glide? Are you using any Wrapper programs? -
Here is the last CombatSIM EAW forum (set to read only, June 2022) (May be no longer available today). http:// community.combatsim.com/forum/33-european-air-war/ As far as the archive EAW 1-6 archive being lost, it may still be with of the original owner?
