No .ini File Made
wasteboy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'm having issues re-building some campaigns after moving to a new computer and redownloading fresh copies of SF2. The problem I'm having is after making a copy of say SF2 Israel and renaming it Korea in preparation for building that campaign, starting the copied came and coming back to the SF2 file location there is no ".ini application" file. It has established a Mod file in the saved games location for adding the mods to but there is no .ini file to modify as required for the Korea campaign. For campaigns not requiring changes to the .ini file the new copies work fine - for example North Cape and others. Any help is appreciated....... -

Thanks to all for your help on this. I uninstalled most of the games and reinstalled all on an external drive. I went through the process of getting the Mod folders on that same drive, too. It seems to have solved nearly all my problems. Took the better part of a day. But what's an old retired guy got to do on a rainy day anyway? -

Thanks for your help above. I appreciate the input. I think I'm getting closer to a complete solution. I don't know how they got in two different places since the bundle from Thirdwire was downloaded all at once. Delete the direct Saved Games folder and made sure all the games are saved to the C:\users file now. Of course in doing so the games all lost touch with the saved games file so I had to rebuild 5 games based on SF2 NA. Still can't get fames based on SF2V or SF2I to recognize the new Campaign files. I'll keep at that....... -

Ully: Thanks in advance. I've seen your help with others on the forum and found several to be helpful to me also. I think there is something basically wrong in my setup for it not to be working the way it used to as described above. I have what to me is an odd situation and I have not seen anything like it on the forum. I recently purchased the Combo Pack from Thirdwire - probably not necessary but I got a new computer and I thought a clean start might simplify rebuilding SF2 (It has not!!!!) When adding mods to SFNA I found that the new mod folders were being established directly in "C:\Saved Games\Thirdwire" and NOT in "C:\users\myname\ Saved Games\Thirdwire" as they should. However, all other games mod files are established in the "C:\users" file as they are supposed to. I have also found that addons to the SFNA game like SFNA Expansion, North Cape and Black Sea Crisis work fine and the new campaigns are recognized and playable. On the other hand addons to other games where the mod files are established in the "C:\users\ file" like SFV Expansion to plain SFV the game does not recognize the new campaigns. Again, in no instance of any game is there an ".ini/Installations Settings" file established in the game root directory other than those for the initially downloaded games. The whole thing is baffling to me....... I am ready at this point to be happy with what I have and not touch anything for fear I'll make a mess of it. -

Yes. I went through all the old usual steps: copy, paste, rename and run. When I come back still only the renamed application file. -

I am working with a brand new version of SF2 Complete from Thirdwire ($99.99). So I don't think age is the issue. I recognize the your files and the fact that you haven't had my issue. This may be a very limited issue relating to only a few downloads. I do remember having to edit the .ini files in a couple of download in the past especially in the "Campaigns" and/or "Missions" files so they would load or be recognized. Start dates and end dates in particular. I'm My problem right now is with only one campaign download: Wings Over Korea. The installation process is standard except it asks for the following (Copied from the instructions): 5. Mod specific .ini configs a. In your SF2 installation directory where all the game .exe resides, make a copy of StrikeFighters2 Israel.ini (or any other similar ini) and rename it StrikeFighters2 Korea.ini. Open the newly created .ini and find the following: [Directory] ... CampaignsDirectory=Campaigns ... And change it to: CampaignsDirectory=C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\Campaigns\ *Please do not just copy paste this line but replace [username] with whatever’s set on your PC. This step is to prevent stock campaigns from displaying which can sometimes cause problems. b. In your Mod folder (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Korea\), open up the file Options.ini, find the [instantAction] section, and replace it with the following: [instantAction] AircraftType=F-86E-10 MissionMap=Korea3 StartTime=15:30:00 StartDate=09/18/1951 StartTimeDeviation=120 TextureSet=0 NationalMarking=0 SquadronMarking=0 AircraftNumber=0 KillMarking=0 This would get InstantAction working spawning F-86s, Mig-15s etc. -

I've never had SF1. I do think the .ini file labeled "Configuration" which is just below the "Application" file in the main installation directory is necessary because the games that have this file work and those that don't do not. I don't think I'm wrong in remembering that when I created a copy of a game/file in the main installation file and ran the game that it created a Mod folder in the saved games file (which they do for me now) AND when I returned to the main installation directory there was the "Application" file I created but also right under that a "Configuration/.ini" file. When installing the Korea Campaign files the directions are to make changes to that Configuration/.ini file and not the "Objects" file in the "Mods" file under saved game. I guess my question remains: Why is SF2 not creating this file? -

Thank you . It's been a couple years since I had to do this and forgot that file at the bottom...... Still don't know why its not producing that "application" file in the main drive where it used to. -
Joystick and Keyboard Do Not Work in Game
wasteboy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I have a problem I think is different from others described. I recently got a new Dell Alienware laptop described below. Because the SF2 files I moved from my old computer did not work on the new one I just purchased direct from Thirdwire, downloaded and installed the SF-2 Complete ($99.99). The game when running does not recognize input from either the keyboard or the joystick. When I start in Options and go to Controls it lets me input changes to the joystick to use the slider for rudder control and the throttle lever for throttle control. So it recognizes input from the joystick and keyboard there. However, when I go to fly in a game either "Instant Action" or "Single Mission" it opens in the air or on the runway but does not respond to either the keyboard or joystick. That includes ESC - the only way I can get out is to employ Task Manager and end the task. I know the joystick works because it does in both DCS and Microsoft Flight Simulator. So the computer should likewise be adequate. The game continues to work fine on the previous computer - it's specs are listed below also. I have tried several total uninstalls and reinstalls, shut downs and restarts etc. and everything I have found on this forum but nothing works so far. What can I do????? The computer specifics are: Dell/Alienware Alienware x17 R2 Windows 11 Home 64 bit Disk drive: NVMe PC SN810 NVME WDC1024GB Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900H 2.50 GHz Ram: 16.384GB (15.7 GB usable) DirectX Version: DirectX 12 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X The previous computer: Dell Inspiron G3 3579 Windows 11 Home version 22H2 Intel i7-8750H CPU@ 2.20Ghz 16.0 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti -
Joystick and Keyboard Do Not Work in Game
wasteboy replied to wasteboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for all your replies above. Much appreciated! I did reload TM drivers and trying the old Controls files is on my list of things to do but.... Here's a new twist in the last hour that may be a solution but not THE answer.... I transferred some old original install files from my old computer and so far SF2V and SF2NA work fine. So I guess I can keep downloading all my old stuff one at a time from the external drive I saved it all on. (I now have an excuse for the 10 year old crap I've got on my machine!?!?) I'll keep messing around with the new purchased SF2 Complete but I may have wasted $99.99 looking for an answer to a problem I didn't have. Thanks again to all. -
SF2 occasionally stops responding to keyboard

I have a similar problem to the one described in this thread. I just purchased, downloaded and installed the SF-2 Complete ($99.99). As suggested above I made sure NAVIDIA is the prefered graphics What can I do????? Custom Joystick Customization in Options/Controls Menu
wasteboy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I've been away from SF2 for about 6 months or so and started flying again today. I wanted to tweak a few controls on my Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X unit as I have done in the past. When I go to the "Options/Control" and then "Customize" screen it only gives me the option of makeing changes to the keyboard. On the Control screen it recognizes the Thrustmaster but in the Customize area there is no way I can find to make button assignments on the controller. The previously customized control file is still there. I get the same results on Viet Nam, Korea, Desert Storm and North Atlantic. All previously worked. Thoughts and help please!!!!!! -

Thanks, Wrench. I have that file but the only thing in it is First Eagles like in yours. Must be hidden someplace else......... It seems to work just fine without that step so I'll just go with it. Thanks again. -

This is a question on the installation of the same package and I apologize in advance if this is a breach of etiquette but since it's a very current discussion I'll take a shot anyway. I've been away from SF-2 for quite a while and I am able to get through the set up of the new folders, and change the mod files but when it came to modifying the .ini files I'm at a loss. The instruction says: " Mod specific .ini configs a. In your SF2 installation directory where all the game .exe resides, make a copy of StrikeFighters2 Israel.ini (or any other similar ini) and rename it StrikeFighters2 Korea.ini. Open the newly created .ini and find the following: " I can't find or remember where to find these .ini files. I've installed many of these (Falklands, Iran-Iraq, Red Storm, Norway, Darius, etc) so I must have found them in the past but can't now. I'm using Windows 10. Sorry for the dumb question. I appreciate your patience....... -

I have the same issue with trees on Isfahan AB - Trees on the runway is a little disconcerting, especially on landing! But otherwise a great mod. Thanks.
