  1. Yikes! Your an old hand too...now I'm nervous. Its in the sound folder and has been talked about before as a glitch of some kind. Certain folks have tried to add it to a AC's sounds .ini with no luck. *Sigh* OK...thx for the info
  2. Long time SF1 and WoV owner who just upgraded to SF2 Vietnam. Still getting adjusted with key mapping, d/l's, graphic settings, etc. However during a few test flights I have noticed the bomb release sound is still not working!?! I had hoped this would have finally been fixed or do I need to add/adjust something in my setup? Thanks!
  3. This is for you familiar with the (quite excellent) book "Wind in the Wires" by Duncan Grinnell-Milne. Was reading from a post below and followed a link to the BE2c on Wikipedia. Clicked a few more links (Squadrons using the Be2 (16 Squadron), etc) and, to make a long story short: Is Sir Hugh Dowding (of WW2 BOB fame) the famous (or perhaps infamous) 16 Squadron CO of DGM's book- the "Starched Shirt"?
  4. Yes - you are correct. Still going to use though - thanks Creaghorn. I love user made mods. The other one I am using is the additional last names for the germans and French..
  5. Thank you gentleman, will it it a shot.
  6. See quite a bit of talk reference OFF running best at "max resolution" or "highest resolution" or "native resolution". This seems a bit counter to standard video game logic but I am willing to give it a shot. Does this mean run OFF at the highest resolution my monitor will display (via the desktop properties drop down box)? Thanks
  7. Alrighty then, now we are cooking with gas. 1) With resolution at 1280 x 960 x32 2) With sliders at: Aircraft Detail = 5 Terrain Detail = 3 Scenery Detail = 3 Effects Quality = 4 Cloud Quality = 1 3) And Rabu's Nvidia settings minus the AA and AF which are off (which I don't miss - I can't see much difference) Just did a 4 v 4 dogfight in the rain with no stutters! Now I have a base to work from. I would like to get clouds to "5" so I will tweak further - and maybe play a damn campaign someday! Thanks to all for your suggestions.
  8. Well, if I turn the settings way down the stutters turn into "micropauses" instead. Still playing with the assorted settings so we will see where this goes. Being a little (ok - a lot) OCD it kind of chaps me that I can't have the settings way up to maximize the eye candy. I think I have to get out of my mind that this is no longer 8 (?) year old CFS3 but a brand new sim chock full of features - and my CP/Video system may not be up to the job. Deep down though I wonder if part of this is the "clunky" CFS3 engine. Maybe its time to switch flight engines for OFF though I would not have a clue as to which one.
  9. Too funny - I've always fancied myself as a Monty Python fan but I've never seen these. Love it when he tries to escape from the new camp and his own countryman tears the gun away from the guard and shoots him!
  10. That's always been one of my favorite period photos- the one with MvR sitting in the Alb with Jasta 11 around him.
  11. My FPS varies depending on my settings - of course! I will go back to experimenting - I just wanted to know what someone with a system like mine should be running at so I can stop wasting time tweaking and more time playing.
  12. Bah! What a bunch of whiny REMF's! Any real men here? Any 0311's?
  13. Oops...yes a PIV 3.6 MHZ...sorry. Uncleal - I am certain that my vid card is a PCI - if that makes a difference. Also your system sounds close to mine - what do you attribute the stutters too - the video system? My system was "top o' the line" years ago - the vid card and extra RAM I added about two years ago. Of course computers age like dogs!
  14. Forgive me for not posting this in the help forum but I really don't need help per se but info from other OFF'ers. My machine: PIII 3.6 MHZ 2 GB RAM GeForce 7950GT Video card Creative SB Audigy 2 Sound card Win XP w/ Service Pack 3 Starting OFF w/ Alacrity PC. This game is beautiful but I get awful stutters. Something popping up/being modeled I presume. I keep playing with the assorted settings and help pages (yes I've read them all) in a attempt to get the most eye candy at good performance. Anyway. for anyone with a machine similar to mine: 1) What resolution are you running at? 2) Where do you have your (The 1 to 5 box - clouds, terrain, etc) settings? Sometimes I think I may be setting things too high but I thought I have an OK machine though I may be wrong. Anyone with a machine very similar to mine please advise what you are running at so I can stop "aiming for the stars" graphics/performance wise or see if its something in my CP. Thanks in advance!
  15. Doh! I thought I saw a list somewhere - thanks for the link. Somehow it looks more impressive there than looking at the "aircraft " folder.
  16. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but... Is there a list of A/C that are in OFF? Are there any AI only A/C in OFF? I have had OFF for a couple of months but due to stupid R/L stuff I have had not time to really get into it. Winters coming though!
  17. I would think that a large number of OFF'ers cut their teeth on RB3D. I have two installs going (one with WFP2 and the other with HASP) all loaded with new terrains, skies, sounds, etc, etc. While OFF is clearly great (and it gets must of my stick time)I just can't seem to stay away from RB3D for long and fire it up quite often. Hard to imagine I have goofing with it for....whats it been...12 years since its been out? Kind of amazing. Or perhaps I am just weird as hell! Anyone still fire it up and take a spin once in a while? Must be a few "FITS" people here also among the older crowd I would imagine.
  18. I have to say that I am always surprised by the number of people who request a "Zeppelin" in WW1 aero sims. I'm all about giving people what they want but for me, personally, it would be dead last on the list after every other possible aircraft has been done. A matter of taste and interest I suppose. To each his own though! Someone mentioned that Phase 1 had a Zeppelin? If some has a screenshot handy I would be curious to see it.
  19. Boy, I wish the Pentagon wishes they could maintain this kind of secrecy!
  20. Duck!?! That is why I added the preface! This is a friendly inquiry from a OFF "fanboi"!
  21. I feel a need to preface this post. This is not meant as a criticism or a slam or a dig, or a....you get the picture. I am just seeking information. If this question has been posted before (and I feel it must have) I could not find it. After finding out there was no N-28 in OFF I finally looked at the aircraft folder to see what was included. I am certain I have been spoiled by RB3D w/ WFP2 but I was expecting a lot more aircraft types. What types of additional aircraft can we expect exactly in future add-ons? When will they be released? Is the plan as a whole package or separate A/C? I am more than happy to pay for many more A/C types and/or add-ons to this sim.
  22. Well, courtesy of YouTube I saw a bit of Dawn Patrol - though it was kinda slow so I didn't watch alot. I certainly saw some N-28's plus several others. Thomas Morse Scouts (I think that is the correct name) + some other Nieuport types? In the short bit I watched it appeared some N-28's took off but then in the air they became, I think, the Morse Scouts. Anyone with a good connection - and great plane knowledge - want to try and name all the types? I think there a 4 kinds on the "allied" side. EDIT: Well, I guess you can find about anything on the internet. This is from Wikipedia: "Aircraft Howard Hawks assembled a variety of planes in a film squadron to shoot the flying scenes for the original version of The Dawn Patrol. Hawks used rebuilt Nieuport 28s as the primary airplane for the British squadron, and Travel Air 4000s (reconfigured for films and popularly known as "Wichita Fokkers")[20][21] for German fighters, but other aircraft in his small fleet included Standard J-1s for shots of entire squadrons, some of which were blown up in explosions, and Waterman-Boeing C biplanes for German aircraft destroyed in crashes. The scene in which Scott takes off with Courtney clinging to the wing switches to a shot of a Travel Air 4U Speedwing fitted with a round cowl over its Comet engine to resemble the Nieuports. Stunt pilots included Leo Nomis, Rupert Symes Macalister, Frank Tomick, and Roy Wilson.[22] 1938 director Goulding used much of this footage in the remake to save production costs.[1] For new closeups of airplanes with his own actors, he acquired three Nieuport 28 replicas from Garland Lincoln, a Van Nuys, California, stunt pilot who also recreated World War I aircraft for Hollywood films. Built by Claude Flagg, these "LF-1"s were constructed from Nieuport plans and had many characteristics of the actual aircraft, including upper wing fabric that ripped in dives. In Goulding's production these aircraft also appear in a few scenes of Nieuports taking off, landing, and taxiing. Additional Nieuport 28s were simulated by Thomas-Morse S-4C Scouts, and two were used in the flying scene in which Courtney and Scott attack the German airdrome. 59th Squadron's airplanes were marked in standard RFC camouflage and national insignia, had the marking "NIEU 24" painted on their tail fins,[23] and displayed a cartoon Hornet painted on each side of the fuselage just behind the cockpit.[22] For scenes at the German airdrome in which aircraft were moved or had engines turning, Goulding used Wichita Fokkers painted black with German markings. His "Pfalzes" had their wings painted in a large and striking black and white checkerboard pattern. Goulding also acquired two genuine Pfalz D.XII fighters for static closeup shots of parked fighters, with at least one re-painted white in a later scene to "expand" their numbers. Actual Nieuport 28s and Pfalz D.XIIs were used much later in the war than the 1915 setting of The Dawn Patrol, and the model 28 Nieuport was not used by the RFC at all, but their familiarity of appearance to American audiences gave a verisimilitude to both films.[22]"
