Sorted!...Well, sort of. When you mentioned your Effects pack, I realised you had already done the hard work...All I had to do was place your three 'TRACER.TGA' files into my 'Objects' folder! Soooooooo much better! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Stary! Any idea how to eliminate those bullet hit flashes?
-
I think the one with the vertical white band is actually Oblt. Blumenbach's 217/17, before the addition of the broad white fuselage stripe that ran the whole length of the fuselage. The other two I've never seen before. EDIT: The whole length of the fuselage? What am I talkin' about?...The broad white fuselage stripe stopped at the cross/black paint.

I'm generally happy with the in-game effects, but would like to reduce or even delete the laser type light tracers (not the smoke). I also don't like the little hit flashes that you see when your bullets hit the target plane...Totally unrealistic, IMO. Can anybody tell me which INI file(s) and text lines I need to edit in order to change 'em? Thanks in advance. Bucky

New "Scream!" sound file uploaded.
Southside Bucky replied to Southside Bucky's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Dunno...Maybe it's only available to me ATM? I 'aint had no 'file approval' notification yet, but it's had 10 or so downloads so I thought it must be available. -
Hi guys. Just to let you know that I've uploaded a new collision sound sample I made a few days ago. A scream of terror, mixed with an almighty collision sound that kicks in when you crash to earth or with another plane. Get it here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=9778 I hope you like it. All the best. Bucky

Scream! View File Here's one for fans of the macabre!...A blood curdling scream and collision sound file, activated if/when you collide with another plane or terra-firma! Two versions to choose from. Installation instructions included in the 'Read Me'. Hopefully, it'll add a bit of drama to your game? 9 (Naval) Sqn used 130 hp Clerget engines till December '17. They then flew 150hp Bentley's till February '18, then reverted back to Clerget's for six weeks, then in March, changed back to Bentley's till the end of the War... In short,...use the 130hp!

SE5a - Very Very nice skin
Southside Bucky replied to Cagallon's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hi Stephen. Sorry for butting in, but would it be possible to put in a request for a British Bebe, preferably with the PC10 finish, please? A Nieuport 16 (Albert Ball's, maybe?) in the same colour would be great too! Good to see you haven't lost interest in the game...You're skins are always most excellent. All the best. Bucky -
Like 'em?...I'd say they're the best FE skins I've ever seen!

Realistic Sky Mod First Eagles

Terrific job you've done on this, PR. It gives the game a much improved ambience...A mean 'n moody atmosphere, if you will. Well done, mate! -
My Old Wish List For F.E. (Apr 09) Reposted
Southside Bucky replied to sockboy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hi Sockboy. Just to let you know; five planes on that last list of yours are here already. Namely, the DH4, Hannover CL.IIIa (along with the CL.III), Hansa-Brandenburg D.I, Ansaldo SVA5 and Bristol Scout. Happy hunting! Bucky -
'Scuse the delay getting back to you, Quack. I've been through all my Naval 9 photos, but it seems the only useful ones are of the four machines you're already doing. Looking forward to seeing the finished set. Incidentally, if its any use, the books I consulted were: 'British Aviation Squadron Markings of WWI', by Les Rogers. 'Sopwith Camel Squadrons', by Les Rogers. 'Sopwith Camel King of Combat', by Chaz Bowyer. Windsock Datafile No.26: 'Sopwith Camel', by J.M. Bruce. Vintage Aviation Fotofax: 'Sopwith Camel', by J.M. Bruce. 'Sopwith Camel Aces of WWI', by Norman Franks.

That's really most excellent, Quack! It's been a long day and I've gotta get some shuteye now, but I'll have a look for some other jazzy Naval 9's tomorrow. If it's not too much trouble it'd be helpful if you can refer me to the other three you're gonna do.

So realistic, I can almost feel the cold! It just gets better and better!...

Finished DH-4 package released
Southside Bucky replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yep!....I spent the whole mornin' re-setting every skin of every plane in my aircraft folder down to 512 X 512. I'm not bothered about how detailed the a/c are when viewed real close...From normal distances I can't see any difference in graphics quality whatsoever. Seems to've fixed the horrible graphics glitch I was getting with most add-on planes too! Give it a go and see what you think... BTW, I was reading your life story in your 'Profile' section yesterday. You're a guitarist, eh?...Me too! What stuff do you like to play? -
Finished DH-4 package released
Southside Bucky replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Actually, I've just had a look through TK's stock a/c skins...They're all 512 X 512. Stands to reason then, I suppose,...any skins using 2048 X 2048 will kill frame rates. -

Thanks for those DATA.INI's PR...Excellent work! RE: The windscreen. TBH, I don't think the DH2 cockpit is a suitable choice for the DH4 anyway...The SE5 or even the SPAD would've been better, IMO. Maybe someone could have a go at a re-fit? Thanks to you too TS...That 1024 conversion's made a big difference! -
Well Jan, judging from the few screenshots you've uploaded so far, I'm gonna say right now; that looks to be the best flight sim terrain I've ever seen! Regarding the fort's, IMO the green moat looks more realistic than the blue one. More power to you, man. Bucky

Ernst Udet's Fokker Dr.1 for download
Southside Bucky replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
LOL!...Who you got in mind? -
Yeah, the finished model is superb, 101tfs...Very well done. Can I also make a request for an unpainted fuselage version too, please? Bucky.

Finished DH-4 package released
Southside Bucky replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Nice as this model now looks with Quack's excellent skins, unfortunately, it's all but unusable for me due to the frame rates, which with any more than one plane in my flight, appear to be something in the region of one frame every ten seconds! D'you reckon there's anything we can do about this? -

Okay TS, here's my (as you American's say) "two cents worth": The subject of DH4 engine installations is bewildering to say the least, but I've looked through the following references: 'Airco DH4' (Windsock Datafile Special)...By J.M. Bruce. 'British Aeroplanes 1914-1918'...By J.M. Bruce. 'The Aeroplanes of the Royal Flying Corps'...By J.M. Bruce. 'Airco, the Aircraft Manufacturing Company'...By Mick Davis. 'DeHavilland DH-4, From Flaming Coffin to Living Legend'...By Walter J. Boyne. Most of the early DH4's were powered by the 250hp Eagle (I-IV), and had an average top speed of 113mph, at 10,000ft. Although deliveries began in January 1917, by the end of March, only 50 odd had been delivered. So I would use March 1917 as the 'ServiceStartDate' in the DATA.INI file. The 375hp Eagle VIII version, which saw very limited use (especially by the RFC), appeared around August 1918. It had a top speed of 126mph at 10,000ft. The 400hp Liberty engined version was also introduced in August 1918. It had an average top speed of 117mph at 10.000ft. I think that'll do it...Any more versions would be overkill, IMHO. Hope that helps. Bucky
