[Fictional] Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for SF2
Spinners posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
View File [Fictional] Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for SF2 Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock F-104G to create a fictional F-104H in service with Air/Aerospace Defense Command in the 1966-1986 timeline. Markings are provided for the following squadrons; 111st Fighter Interceptor Squadron (Texas Air National Guard) 178th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (North Dakota Air National Guard) 186th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (Montana Air National Guard) 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (a regular USAF unit attached to the 25th Air Division) BACKSTORY On March 15th 1963, two Soviet bombers overflew Alaska and despite a desperate chase the F-102A's of Alaskan Air Command were unable to intercept them. The immediate response to this embarrassing intrusion was to deploy ten F-106A's drawn from various Air Defense Command Fighter-Interceptor Squadrons to Alaska and to recall the remaining F-104A's that had previously been transferred to the Air National Guard back in 1960. Despite the excellence of the F-106A it did come with a pretty hefty price tag (and was actually out of production) and Air Defense Command realised that in order to replace the earlier F-101's and F-102's a cheaper alternative was required. With Lockheed's multi-role F-104G Starfighter in a high-rate of production the relatively low unit cost attracted the attention of the US Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara who authorised production of the F-104H a dedicated interceptor version based on the F-104G and an initial order for 200 was made. The F-104H was powered by the uprated General Electric J79-GE-10 engine rated at 11,905 lbf dry thrust and 17,844 lbf thrust with afterburner although initial deliveries were powered by the earlier J79-GE-8B. The F-104H incorporated the advanced Litton LN-3 inertial navigation system and also featured the Autonetics NASARR F-15J-50 radar and fire control system optimised for the air-to-air mode with all ground-mapping, contour-mapping and terrain-avoidance modes deleted. After some debate, the M61 20mm cannon was retained but the main armament for the F-104H was the AIM-7 Sparrow semi-active homing missile, the AIM-9 Sidewinder infra-red heat-seeking missile and the AIR-2 Genie unguided air-to-air rocket with a 1.5 kt nuclear warhead. Entering service in April 1965 the F-104H eventually served with nine squadrons. Whilst the USAF's F-104A's and F-104C's had suffered the highest accident rate of any of the USAF Century Series fighters (25.2 aircraft destroyed per 100,000 flight hours) the F-104H's fared much better and were second only to the Spanish Air Force who actually achieved the perfect safety record of losing none of 21 F-104's over a total of 17,500 flight hours. The F-104H was gradually withdrawn from Aerospace Defense Command service from the late 1970's onwards although two Air National Guard units soldiered on until 1986 when the type was finally retired. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Thanks to bobrock for the excellent F-104G template. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. [Fictional] Su-9PF 'Fishpot-A' for WarPac Nations

View File [Fictional] Su-9PF 'Fishpot-A' for WarPac Nations Sukhoi Su-9PF 'Fishpot-A' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Su-9 interceptor to create a fictional Su-9PF in service with the Warsaw Pact air forces of Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the USSR in an overall 1961-1983 timeline. The skins and markings are pretty generic and mainly use stock Third Wire stuff but I did create some new number decals for the Bulgarian, Hungarian and Romanian aircraft. I decided not make a skin for Albania as it was not part of the contiguous border between east and west and, in any case, it quit the Warsaw Pact in 1968. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Su-9PF folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Su-9PF folder into your Decals folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the AA-1B2 folder into your Weapons folder. That's it! The AA-1B2 is a cloned 'Alkali' missile that I've altered simply to allow it to be carried by the WarPac nations - it's a pretty useless missile but I decided not to perk it up. But, for gameplay reasons, I've added guns to the Su-9PF with a simple edit that you can reverse. CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Special thanks to Stary for the Su-9 cockpit. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Soviet Spitfires x 2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

View File Soviet Spitfires x 2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 Soviet Spitfires x 2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Spitfire IXc and clipped-wing Spitfire IXe to create flyable Spits in service with the Soviet Air Force in the 1943-1945 timeline. I've chosen to put these into the 'what-if' hangar due to the very generic nature of the 'winter' schemes and markings but please note that both of the 'summer' schemes are based on real aircraft and include Spitfires flown by the famous pilots Juan Lario Sanchez (Yellow 3) and Alexander Karpov (White 32). INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Spitfire9c_Sov and Spitfire9e_Sov folders into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Spitfire9c_Sov and Spitfire9e_Sov folders into your Decals folder. That's it! Please note that you will need a suitable 'prop' pilot. Please also note that you should really create a new nation for a WW2 Soviet Union. Experienced WW2 players will probably already have one but check your nation name as it might be different from my preferred nation name of 'SovietWW2'. CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Extra special thanks to Starfighter2 for the Spitfire cockpit. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. View File [Fictional] Republic F-105D Thunderchief - West Germany Republic F-105D-5RE Thunderchief for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D to create a fictional West German Thunderchief in the 1962-1967 timeline. A USAF skin is also included for joint operations! BACKSTORY When Kennedy and Khrushchev first met at the Vienna Summit in June 1961 there was hope of better relations between the USA and the Soviet Union but in the weeks that followed these hopes faded when the Soviet Union proposed a treaty between Moscow and East Berlin leading to Kennedy countering with a clear statement that any treaty interfering with U.S. access rights in West Berlin would be regarded as an act of war. Upon his return to the USA, Kennedy's advisors told him that Khrushchev was still planning to sign a treaty with East Berlin and advocated an immediate military build-up in Europe including the deployment of the new Republic F-105D's of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing and the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing with both wings having a primary tactical nuclear strike role. The erection of the Berlin Wall in August 1961 caused Kennedy more anxiety and among a raft of actions he authorised the immediate transfer of 36 F-105D's to the German Air Force with most aircraft coming from the 335th Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Eglin Air Force Base. Entering service in October 1961 with Jagdbombergeschwader 31 at Nörvenich the F-105D's replaced the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak and were operated until late 1967 when the Wing began to receive the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-105D-5RE folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-105D-5RE folder into your Decals folder. Republic F-105D-5RE Thunderchief for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D to create a fictional West German Thunderchief in the 1962-1967 timeline. That's it! The F-105D-5RE designation is used to prevent conflict with any other F-105D's you may have in your install. CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 1 - 24/11/2022-

[Fictional] Mikoyan-Gurevich Ye-2PFM "Faceplate-D"

View File [Fictional] Mikoyan-Gurevich Ye-2PFM "Faceplate-D" Mikoyan-Gurevich Ye-2PFM "Faceplate-D" for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 Released 'as is', this is Mikoyan-Gurevich Ye-2PFM 'Faceplate' - featuring a 3D model by KnightWolf45 (the artist formerly known as Cocas). In the mid-1950's the MiG OKB was tasked in developing a new lightweight supersonic interceptor fighter for the Soviet Air Force and flight-tested two distinct designs in parallel - one with a thin, swept-wing and one with a tailed delta wing. The tailed delta would eventually win out to become the famous MiG-21 'Fishbed' but it's tantalising to consider 'what if' the swept-wing Ye-2A prototype had either won or was considered good enough to also be procured. Anyway, this is the swept-wing Ye-2 as it might have looked in service with the Soviet Air Force and I've also included Egyptian, Mongolian and Parani skins. Giving the aircraft a service designation is tricky as it was given a provisional designation of MiG-23 but, of course, this conflicts with the swing-wing 'Flogger' that came later. We can't use an even number like MiG-20 or MiG-22 so I've just called it the Ye-2PFM and you can change this to suit your own thoughts on this matter. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Ye-2PFM folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Ye-2PFM folder into your Decals folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the Faceplate-GP-9 folder into your Weapons folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Huge thanks to KnightWolf45 for creating the Ye-2PFM 3D model a few years ago and to the CAF team for any inputs that followed. Special thanks also to Coupi for sending me his templates that I've used to create the skins. Thanks to Paladrian for the MiG-21 pit. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 1 - Dec 24th, 2021 Submitter Spinners Submitted 12/24/2021 Category What If Hangar -
