View File [Fictional] Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for SF2 Lockheed F-104H Starfighter for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock F-104G to create a fictional F-104H in service with Air/Aerospace Defense Command in the 1966-1986 timeline. Markings are provided for the following squadrons; 111st Fighter Interceptor Squadron (Texas Air National Guard) 178th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (North Dakota Air National Guard) 186th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (Montana Air National Guard) 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (a regular USAF unit attached to the 25th Air Division) BACKSTORY On March 15th 1963, two Soviet bombers overflew Alaska and despite a desperate chase the F-102A's of Alaskan Air Command were unable to intercept them. The immediate response to this embarrassing intrusion was to deploy ten F-106A's drawn from various Air Defense Command Fighter-Interceptor Squadrons to Alaska and to recall the remaining F-104A's that had previously been transferred to the Air National Guard back in 1960. Despite the excellence of the F-106A it did come with a pretty hefty price tag (and was actually out of production) and Air Defense Command realised that in order to replace the earlier F-101's and F-102's a cheaper alternative was required. With Lockheed's multi-role F-104G Starfighter in a high-rate of production the relatively low unit cost attracted the attention of the US Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara who authorised production of the F-104H a dedicated interceptor version based on the F-104G and an initial order for 200 was made. The F-104H was powered by the uprated General Electric J79-GE-10 engine rated at 11,905 lbf dry thrust and 17,844 lbf thrust with afterburner although initial deliveries were powered by the earlier J79-GE-8B. The F-104H incorporated the advanced Litton LN-3 inertial navigation system and also featured the Autonetics NASARR F-15J-50 radar and fire control system optimised for the air-to-air mode with all ground-mapping, contour-mapping and terrain-avoidance modes deleted. After some debate, the M61 20mm cannon was retained but the main armament for the F-104H was the AIM-7 Sparrow semi-active homing missile, the AIM-9 Sidewinder infra-red heat-seeking missile and the AIR-2 Genie unguided air-to-air rocket with a 1.5 kt nuclear warhead. Entering service in April 1965 the F-104H eventually served with nine squadrons. Whilst the USAF's F-104A's and F-104C's had suffered the highest accident rate of any of the USAF Century Series fighters (25.2 aircraft destroyed per 100,000 flight hours) the F-104H's fared much better and were second only to the Spanish Air Force who actually achieved the perfect safety record of losing none of 21 F-104's over a total of 17,500 flight hours. The F-104H was gradually withdrawn from Aerospace Defense Command service from the late 1970's onwards although two Air National Guard units soldiered on until 1986 when the type was finally retired. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Thanks to bobrock for the excellent F-104G template. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. StartDefaultDate=1983) Grupo 4 (Green/Grey Camo) BACKSTORY During the Spring of 1965 the Fuerza Aérea Argentina formally issued an operational requirement for a supersonic fighter-bomber to supplement and eventually replace it's F-86 Sabre force and to operate alongside the Douglas Skyhawks that were just entering service. The BAC Lightning was quickly ruled out as being short on range and undeveloped in the air-to-ground role and by the end of 1965 Fuerza Aérea Argentina officials declared that the choice was between the Dassault Mirage III and the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Lockheed had proposed a new variant, the F-104H, a projected export version based on the F-104G but with an optical gunsight and simplified equipment. Following a visit by Lockheed representatives to the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires in early July 1966 the newly inaugurated President Juan Carlos Onganía announced that 36 F-104H's would be procured for the Fuerza Aérea Argentina. Entering service in March 1968 with Grupo 8 de Caza at the Military Air Base Mariano Moreno the F-104H's served until 2006 when the last Starfighters operating anywhere in the world were finally retired. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104H folder into your Decals folder. That's it! I've kept the loadouts to basic stock weapons but if you have Argentine weapons in your install then it's worth editing the F-104H_Loadout.ini to suit what you have. 9. View File [Fictional] Lockheed F-104C 'Getti Tonanti' Lockheed F-104C 'Getti Tonanti' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-104C to create a fictional F-104C of the famous 'Getti Tonanti' aerobatic display team of the Aeronautica Militare who performed at the opening ceremony of the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. The real 'Getti Tontanti' flew F-84F's in 1960 so this is just my interpretation of how the Starfighter might have looked with those distinctive Olympic Rings coloured tails. If you haven't got the F-104C then I'm sure you can hack it to fit the F-104G by changing the skin bitmap names, etc. BACKSTORY Entering service in February 1958 with the 83rd Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Hamilton AFB, California the F-104A interceptor served only briefly with the USAF Air Defense Command but this was soon followed by the multi-role F-104C which entered service with USAF Tactical Air Command in September 1958 when the 479th Tactical Fighter Wing at George AFB, California began to re-equip with the type. Despite setting a new world altitude record of 103,395 ft (31,515 m) just a few months later in December 1958 the USAF sharply reduced their orders for the F-104 leading Lockheed to urgently seek export orders and they soon gained an export order from the Italian Government in January 1960 for 40 F-104C's for the Aeronautica Militare. With Italy hosting the Olympic Games in the late summer of 1960, the Italian President Giovanni Gronchi personally asked the US President Dwight D. Eisenhower for the earliest possible delivery date as he wanted to use the F-104C's as part of the opening ceremony. Not only did 'Ike' graciously agree but he also authorised the immediate transfer of 10 F-104C's from USAF stocks which were airlifted to Europe during February and March being reassembled at Ramstein Air Base before being flown to Villafranca Air Base by USAF pilots and officially handed over to the 5th Aerobrigata of the Aeronautica Militare. The F-104C's replaced the F-84F Thunderstreaks of the 'Getti Tonanti' aerobatic display team and this elite unit performed a sensational display at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games of the XVII Olympiad held in Rome from August 25th to September 11th, 1960. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104Cgt folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104Cgt folder into your main Decals folder. That's it! BTW the mission editor can be used to select all 6 aircraft leaving you to get some formation screenshots taken! CREDITS Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Turkey is one of the very first countries to receive the F-104Gs within the MAP program. As a preparation for the new aircraft the 144th Squadron was organised at the 4th AB in Mürted-Ankara. The first 15 aircraft arrived on May 10th,1963 by sea and they were deployed at the newly founded squadron in July. In July 1963 two TF-104gs arrived and they were also assigned to the same squadron. This was followed by Canadair produced 18 F-104Gs and 2 TF-104Gs. The shipment continued in 1965 with 5 more Canadair built F-104Gs. All of these planes were deployed at the 144th Squadron. In 1968 3 pcs F-104G and 1 pc TF-104G were received from USAF. The TuAF faced with the US embargo after the Cyprus peace-keeping Operation ordered a batch of 18 F-104S from Italy. 6 of the planes were delivered within the same year and the remainder in 1975 on the basis of the planes per month. In 1975 the purchase was risen to 40 planes all which were received within 1976. The CF-104s, F-104Gs, TF-104Gs and the RF-104Gs which were strated being replaced by more modern aircraft were despatched to Turkey. This operation included 17 pcs F-104Gs from Belgium, 43 pcs F-104Gs & 12 pcs TF-104Gs from Holland, 12 pcs RF-104G and one TF-104G from Norway and 165 pcs F-104Gs and 36 pcs TF-104Gs from Germany. Canada also promised to hand over the CF-104s after being replaced by the F-18A/Bs. In 1986 44 pcs CF-104G & 6 pcs CF-104D were received. These planes were allocated to the 181st and to the 182nd Squadrons. Within the elapsing time the TuAF F-104Gs started aging and they were withdrawn from active duty one by one. Some were even used as spare parts for those which were still in active duty. The last ones were the CF-104s of the 182nd Squadron when replaced by F-16C/Ds in 1996. 17. File Name: Canadair CF-104 Starfighter skins File Submitter: Sheriff001 File Submitted: 27 September 2014 File Category: F-104 Introduction I have made new skins for the Canadair CF-104 Starfighter. These skins show all the normal Royal Canadian Air Force/Canadian Armed Forces CF-104 schemes. Fuel tanks are included. Aircraft.ini files removing TK's CF-104 skins are also included. Skins The following skins are provided: CF-104 RCAF Natural Metal (Canada-based) RCAF Natural Metal (Germany-based) RCAF Natural Metal post-1965 (Canada-based) RCAF Natural Metal post-1965 (Germany-based) CAF Natural Metal (Canada-based) CAF Natural Metal (Germany-based) [*]CF-104_72 CAF Natural Metal (Canada-based) CAF Natural Metal (Germany-based) CAF Green CAF Symmetrical Natural Metal (Canada-based) CAF Symmetrical Natural Metal (Germany-based) CAF Symmetrical Green [*]CF-104_76 CAF Symmetrical Natural Metal (Canada-based) CAF Symmetrical Natural Metal (Germany-based) CAF Symmetrical Green CAF Symmetrical Camo I have provided 20 serial numbers. Anyone wishing to make additional serials will find PSD templates, and the RCAF font in the extra's folder. Use 22-point for pre-unification serials, 16-point for unification serials, and 48-point for buzz numbers. I have also included fuel tank templates which I have created. No instructions or files have been added to make the CF-104 flyable, however plenty is available on combatace.com on this subject. What works for the F-104G will work for the CF-104. I recommend making the aircraft ini files read only. Template used: http://combatace.com/files/file/5474-f-104g-photoshop-template/ Changes Removed CAF Green from CF-104, removed scratches from all skins, adjusted specular, glossiness and reflection values on natural metal skins, added SM files to natural metal skins. Fixed decals to remove white borders. Installation Instructions Copy the contents of "ModFolder" into your mod folder. Over-write where necessary. 19. Could someone please let me know which units flew the F-104 in the SF1 stock campaigns and how the CAMPAIGN_DATA files had them set up? I presently have the 434th, 435th, 436th, and 476th Tactical Fighter Squadrons added to the Burning Sands, Quick Sand, and Rattle Snake campaigns according the the dates that they historically operated the F-104 but I would like to match the original campaign setup if possible.
  20. File Name: F-104G - Royal Australian Air Force File Submitter: Sheriff001 File Submitted: 08 April 2013 File Category: What If Hangar This mod contains a series of RAAF skins for the F-104G Starfighter. Backstory During the late 1950s, the RAAF considered the question of replacing the CAC Avon-Sabre. From the submissions of most of the West's major manufacturers, a shortlist of two aircraft was put forward. These aircraft were the Dassault Mirage III, and the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter. In the event, the Government selected the Mirage III, which was manufactured in Australia as the Mirage IIIO. Of course, the Government could have gone the other way ... Had they done so, there was a chance that the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation would have been chosen to build it (they had been working on this with Lockheed). In real life, the Mirage IIIO was not used in Vietnam due to French restrictions (hence the reason Australia did not replace the Mirage IIIO with the Mirage 2000, and will not replace the F/A-18 with the Rafale), however the F-104G could have been used in Vietnam. The natural metal, and green/grey schemes reflect the actual colour schemes of the Mirage IIIO. SEA is included because it is highly appropriate for Australian conditions, and would reflect use of RAAF Starfighters in Vietnam. The "Fanta Can" is included because I'd be stoned to death for not including it. Further schemes may be included in updates. Contents Natural Metal, European green/grey, SEA camouflage skins for the following units: 3SQN 75SQN 76SQN 77SQN 79SQN ARDU "Fanta Can" scheme for ARDU. In the extras folder, there are alternate wings for different roundel configurations: Upper and lower, both wings (reflecting most F-104 users) Lower, both wings (reflecting the Mirage IIIO and A-4G) Upper left, lower right (reflecting the F-4E and F-111C) Installation Copy the contents of ModFolder into your mod folder. Overwrite where necessary. If you have downloaded the previous RAAF F-104G, I suggest deleting it before adding this mod. Materials and instructions for making the F-104G flyable are widely available on this site. You must have the Mirage IIIO DLC to use this mod. Add this text to "F-104G_userlist.ini" [Australia] ServiceStartYear=1964 ServiceEndYear=1993 Availability=COMMON Credits TK: The TW series, Stock F-104G Starfighter, Mirage IIIO DLC Spillone104 and Paulopanz: SEA skins P.S. 22. View File [Fictional] Lockheed F-104E Starfighter 'ANG' Lockheed F-104E for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-104G to create a fictional USAF F-104E with markings for; 112th TFS of the Ohio ANG in a 'Euro One' style scheme. 162nd TFS of the Ohio ANG in a 'Euro One' style scheme. 198th TFS of the Puerto Rico ANG in a 'T.O. 1-1-4' style scheme. It goes without saying that you must have the F-104G LOD's in your install. BACKSTORY Whilst, officially, USAF interest in the F-104 programme began to ebb (leading to only 77 F-104C's being built) they kept a watchful eye on Lockheed's progress into transforming the original hot-rod interceptor fighter into a multi-mission tactical fighter for export to selected 'free world' nations. As negotiations with Federal Germany reached a critical phase in 1958 concern was expressed by the Bonn government that Lockheed were attempting to sell an aircraft no longer wanted by it's home nation. Lockheed cleverly took these concerns back to Washington and claimed that lucrative export orders were at jeopardy leading to a token order for a new version of the Starfighter for the USAF. Designated F-104E this new version broadly represented a halfway house between the F-104C and the forthcoming F-104G. Only 60 F-104E's were planned to be produced but the success of the F-104C flown by Capt Charles E. Tofferi in the 1962 William Tell tactical weapons meet, against strong competition from F-100 and F-105 pilots, led to continued low-rate production followed by a larger batch of 240 F-104E's making an eventual total of 336. F-104E's were deployed to Vietnam and surviving aircraft were refurbished for ANG use with the type being finally retired in 1988 when the 112th TFS re-equipped with F-16A's. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104E folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104E folder into your main Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS Thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. Thanks to Bobrock for uploading his superb F-104G templates to the community.
