Vittorio43 Posted Sunday at 11:15 PM Posted Sunday at 11:15 PM Sorry if i'm starting to sound a bit like a broken record, I realize my posts have seemingly only been me requesting help for things and i do apologize lol. But i seem to be having a problem with the AGW expansion for SF2V. I keep getting these random sporadic crashes while i play and i haven't been able to precisely pinpoint what causes it. Sometimes i can complete entire missions fine and sometimes it crashes mere minutes after i take off once i get near the target. From what i observed though it often crashes just right as a missile fired either by me or any of the AI hits in a split second before it shows the explosion as if something about the missile hitting a target is causing a crash though i have managed to kill an enemy with a missile and not have it crash multiple times before so i'm not all too sure what causes the crash. I'm not precisely certain but that seems to be a re-occuring trend from the bit of experimentation i did to try and figure out the issue. If anyone else here has had this issue before any help is greatly appreciated once again
+EricJ Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM Never hesitate to ask for help. We're a good community that mostly doesn't clown on people needing help. Sure you get some snark, but we're all here to help out and such. While I can't help, somebody should hopefully come along and help you.
Vittorio43 Posted Sunday at 11:33 PM Author Posted Sunday at 11:33 PM Thank you very much. Was just getting worried i was coming off a bit annoying or something as someone who does nothing but requests help and posts bug reports but i really do appreciate the help. Hopefully someone here is a bit more well versed in the game than i am and can help figure out the issue
+EricJ Posted Sunday at 11:51 PM Posted Sunday at 11:51 PM Nah only when you sound stupid the snark comes out. Anyway, yeah it could be a simple or complex fix, but I don't (even as long as I've played it and such) don't know everything that could be remotely causing it. For the most part I've never done a single campaign (I might have done one, but died early in it) fully, so I don't know the vagaries of what the issue could be. Hopefully somebody comes along and helps you though.
Vittorio43 Posted Sunday at 11:58 PM Author Posted Sunday at 11:58 PM The issue seems to happen both on campaign and single missions and only on the AGW expansion as i've used plenty of missiles in the base game and other mods and never had a crash with it. Not quite sure myself on what causes it but i reckon it might have something to do with the files for the missiles or the ensuing explosion and destruction of the aircraft,i can only make guesses sadly
+EricJ Posted Monday at 12:10 AM Posted Monday at 12:10 AM Well needless to say there is some file causing the problem, but it could be like an ini that's old or out of date. What is the date of the file upload for the AGW expansion?
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 12:35 AM Author Posted Monday at 12:35 AM (edited) It's the latest version, last updated on April 17.2021. Then the September 2014 2.1 update last updated on September 19,2014 and then the VPAF add-on last updated on August 10,2013. And then finally the End Game add-on also last updated on September 19,2014. I assumed from the mod page that the newer versions include the terrain update therefore i do not need to download that file separately so i didn't get that file, all running on the July 2013 patch for SF2. I suppose i could try a complete clean reinstall but that'll take at least a few days before i can do that and confirm if the issue persists or not Edited Monday at 12:38 AM by Vittorio43
+EricJ Posted Monday at 12:40 AM Posted Monday at 12:40 AM Yeah my assumption was something before a patch, not after the last... well hopefully somebody can help.
michaelk Posted Monday at 04:12 AM Posted Monday at 04:12 AM (edited) Hello. 1.It might be a damaged random LOD (check the quality of your HDD/SSD). Or redownload and check RAR file. 2.Lower the video quality. Edited Monday at 04:13 AM by michaelk
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 04:21 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:21 AM (edited) I've tried changing the quality around. Still nothing there. I checked my HDD's quality and HDD Scan said it was good. I guess only option left is to redownload but like i said that'll take maybe 4 days minimum for me to get all the files and expansions redownloaded. 3 days minimum just for the main mod files and updates so i can't report on how well that works yet Edited Monday at 04:22 AM by Vittorio43
michaelk Posted Monday at 04:33 AM Posted Monday at 04:33 AM I had a problem similar to yours (the HIPAR.LOD file was damaged when unpacking the archive (this was a long time ago in 2017)
michaelk Posted Monday at 04:35 AM Posted Monday at 04:35 AM (edited) 21 minutes ago, Vittorio43 said: maybe 4 days minimum Yes ) Edited Monday at 04:44 AM by michaelk
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 04:47 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:47 AM I'll try a redownload then. Hopefully this sorts it out. Big bummer, was looking forward to flying some cats in 'Nam lmao
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 04:57 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:57 AM (edited) Heres a video demonstrating the crash(excuse my poor display of airmanship and the video quality lol,i forgot to edit my OBS settings) Sometimes the missile makes contact and explodes just fine but more often than not, that happens Edited Monday at 04:58 AM by Vittorio43
+EricJ Posted Monday at 02:58 PM Posted Monday at 02:58 PM Did you PM the author of the file at least? I can see what you're talking about, and I think it may be corrupted offhand, but not sure. If there was some kinda of log then we can see what the issue is, but this is actually a first. Did the missile come from a weapons pack that you downloaded?
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 08:25 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:25 PM (edited) eburger hasn't been on since 2020 it seems,so it's highly unlikely i'll be able to reach out to him. I was hoping another modder with more experience debugging the game would chime in and share their thoughts and confirm if this is a corrupted LOD or something else but i'll just have to wait and hope someone comes on i suppose. Also no these are the base weapons that either came with the mod itself or the official Vietnam expansion. I saw someone was saying something about crash logs on another forum but i don't know where to find them either Edited Monday at 08:28 PM by Vittorio43
+daddyairplanes Posted Monday at 08:49 PM Posted Monday at 08:49 PM posting after skimming the topic, so bear with if i miss something you could try getting an Enterprise (theres a few in the internets, try YAP-RW models page) and running in a clean install in 1975 if that works, run single mission in your SF2V Expansion install if that works, edit the campaign to use the Enterprise you picked if your gonna do any modding for SF2, best to keep a clean install (exe) to check things in. clean it out everytime you are satisfied with what youre checking out of curiousty, how is your install? some games (like just SF2Europe and Vietnam), full 5 plus two (all five base games plus the two Thirdwire expansion packs) or the all in one (Thirdwire release from a couple of years ago that has everything TW released over the years for around 100 bucks)?
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 09:04 PM Author Posted Monday at 09:04 PM (edited) I have all the expansions(Europe,Vietnam,Israel,North Atlantic including expansion 1 and 2)and AI plane packs 1 and 2 but none of the extra DLC planes I'll try to do edit the Enterprise models when I get the mod working and running but I'm satisfied enough for now just using the not exactly accurate replacements included with the base game as long as they work and I can take off and land I'm not too sure what you meant by a clean install sorry, but I do keep each mod in their own separate folders instead of overwriting any base files from either the game or the expansion folders since I saw everyone mention this to be the cleanest and easiest method for installing mods Edited Monday at 09:07 PM by Vittorio43
+daddyairplanes Posted Monday at 09:32 PM Posted Monday at 09:32 PM a clean install means non modded each of those games and the 2 expansions have their own exe, and generates their own mod folder when played. so you can have specific installs. for example my SF2 install is mostly US based units and terrains, Europe has European based units, North Atlantic is a nautical themed install and so on. I keep my Israel install clean, only throwin things in when i am checking something. then i delete it all and leave it alone using a clean install, you can pinpoint issues better than if you have a million other mods in there
Vittorio43 Posted Monday at 09:42 PM Author Posted Monday at 09:42 PM Oh in that case then it's like i said,i only ever install mods to their own folders(the Taiwan mod to StrikeFighters2 Taiwan etc.)and run them through their own exe's. I try to not touch any of the base folders the game generates so as to make it easier to troubleshoot anything and not mix mods that are incompatible with each other
