Wrench Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago As a lot of you know, my modding passion is, and will always be, getting WW2 to work in SF2. Well, with the addition of a freely available bunch of goodies to be found in YAP's "Rising Sun", and those of us the do play WW2 PTO mods, don't follow the 'canned missions', for the most part. To that end, I'm requesting any/all of our experienced Naval Engineers to help in converting the RS bird farms for single mission SF2 PTO WW2. Now, this does pose some issues. Mostly, RS uses 3 different ships to tell their stories; launch, recovery and damaged/sinking/destroyed. NONE of these models are updated for SF2 (that's another story for the airplanes, too) I'd say we can (almost) ignore WASP, but she did server gallantly in the Atlantic, Med, before being lost in the Pacific. Same thing, need a major upgrade. As for RANGER, we don't (really) have one; just that stand it I did forever ago. But it DO work, so... My plan is to hopefully get them FULLY SF2 rated, like the existing (well, late model Essex and the ancient Enterprise6 model). The nondamaged LODs would be used, with fully operation defenses, historically correct armor values, minimal parking slots, and so forth One of the major issues, is LEXINTGON, having had her 8" guns removed in early/mid 1941, would have to be it's own ship, not like the YORKTOWN or ESSEX's. Same for SARATOGA; she had them remove, and 5/38 twin turrets installed in their place. The YORKTOWNs (5,6,8) need to cat and arrestor cables repositioned, armor upgraded (already started on this). As you can see below, that's an RS CV-5 class, with some parked birds already. You'll notice the 2 Vindicators abaft of the island; that's where the cat's are, as RS uses a rolling takeoff. They'd need to be moved forward of the bow elevator (that I can do, But a lot I can't) I'm sure I can get Ralph's (YAP Commander!) approval for this, and I know he'd want to make any and all corrections that would make the whole mod more SF2 compatibile. I'm not going to mention the aircraft, but there is a WEALTH of PTO aircraft that are in all 4 parts, many replace those "no longer available", and replacing others that are SO old ... but need fine tuning for SF2. That's a discussion for another time, however. So, who's with me?? (oh, by the way, anyone have any of the RS aircraft templates??? I've got a shitload of pre-war F4F-3 Wildcat decals that don't work on Pasko's because of massive bleed -who'da thought that!) 4
snapper 21 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I did go through all the Rising Sun ships and start getting more guns working. They may not be perfect but could be used as a start. For Lexington, I use Saratoga then flip the 5inchers 3 1
Wrench Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago well, this is actually going a LOT better than I thought!!!! (odd when THAT happens!!!) here's the CV5/6/8 (in this case Big E), with a respotted deck, and cats moved a bit more forward and closer to center line. I'm going to respot the 2 bird at the end, further astern. Had to bring a bunch over into the Test Install. I need to bring the RS Hellcat, as our old one doesn't have folding wings, and theirs does. (but Pasko's Wildcat fits nice!, as does my Helldivers) If I'm happy with this, then maybe do WASP, and see what Snapper has done with the Lexingtons. Note on them: i still think Lex and Sara need to be to seperates, after 1941. Lex lost the 8 inchers, and gained those joke guns, 1.1 ini. Sara got the 5/38s. Having them "same" in the 1930s would be cool, if we ever get more early birds (I know of some that MIGHT be converatable) 2
Wrench Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago Just in case anybody is reading/listening, I DID find the best Pre-War USN aircraft film ever made. It's on Amazon, and can be rented or purchased (I just bought it as it, as I don't have the DVD -- stream it baby!). "Dive Bomber" with Errol Flynn and Fred McMurry, it TECHNICOLOR!!!!!! One can forgive the medical and love story lines -- you want to see all the birds of 1941 USN. Filmed aboard ENTERPRISE and NAS North Island, San Deigo. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dive+bomber&crid=G0ALZQXDRFFF&sprefix=dive+bomber%2Caps%2C178&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 HIGHLY reccommended!!! 2
