TurtleHawk Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I'm gonna go out on a limb here... To those who have been with the SFP series a long time the info is obvious, but for us new folks it isn't. Seems like some times people who respond get a little annoyed, and quickly refer people to the knowledge-base. My guess is the knowledge base was written by "knowledgeable" people, consequently sometimes obvious things are not clear to the newbie. So, I appreciate your patience. Here's an example: Patches are referred to as SP1-SP4, but when you go to the d/l section, they also have DATES, 8.30.06, 5.25.06, etc. Get my point? It would help me if there was a chart that had something like: Service Pack 1= 5.15.06 Service Pack 2= 5.25.06 etc. I get so confused... Thanks for listening. Sorry if this has been covered, over, and over again. Quote
+MigBuster Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 The date is also the official naming convention used by Thirdwire http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_wov.htm Theres actually a load of patches in between that have dates on too - that date is shown at the bottom right hand corner of the main screen when you load the game so you can easily tell which version you are patched to. Service Pack 4 is 05-15-06 and it includes all the fixes from previous SPs and patches Basically its the 4th major upgrade since the release of Strike Fighters in 2002 - the previous packs are no longer available so its less likely anyone knows the exact dates of those patches. +Dave Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Coolhand is right on the money, the dates is what 3rd Wire uses. Not sure how we started calling them service packs. Quote

Thanks, I know that the version number displays in the loadscreen. However, if you follow the link in the post, it will take you to the WoV patches, dated: v5.15.06 and v8.30.06 So, is SP4 v5.15.06? This is important to clear up I think, because when installing add-ons it seems that it matters which patch is installed. It seems like most add-ons were done pre-v8.30.06. Most read-me(s) say "patch to SP4" It looks like v8.30.06 adds TiR, a bit of graphics, and fixes something with the mirrors, small compared to previous patches. Thanks for hanging in there Quote
+BUFF Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Not sure how we started calling them service packs. because Third Wire calls some of them Service Packs (i.e more than just patches as they include additional functionality as well as fixes). then there are patches & hotfixes ... & the previous packs are still available in the downloads section here. I'm less concerned with why, and more concerned with which. As in, which is which? And Service Pack does seem more appropriate than Patch. But, could someone help with which is which? v5.15.06=SP? for SFP1/SFG/WOV/WOE? v5.25.06=SP? " " v8.30.06=SP? " " Thank you. Quote

+MigBuster Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 5-15-06 is service pack 4 for WOE/WOV and SF - though if you go to the thirdwire site you simply select the game from the drop down box and it then lists the patches for that game only. To distinguish a SP from a patch take note of the size - you will see on the thirdwire site 5-16-06 is pretty big for each game 40MB - 70MB whereas patches are small (4MB to 6MB). Quote

" " v.5.25.06 was a hotfix - if you download v5.15.06 from Thirdwire now what you get is SFP1_sp051506b.exe which combines the original v5.15.06 & the v5.25.06 hotfix Quote
