I guess it's no secret that it is indeed possible to mount dual AMRAAMs on a pylon, using the LAU-105 rack (found in the WeaponsPack, but actually just for Sidewinder missiles) and with a little help from the plane's loadout file.

What else would need to be done to mod the LAU-105 into a LAU-116, other than replacing the "WeaponsRackType=2IR"

with "WeaponsRackType=2AR"?

Is that Corsair or Crusader carrying AMRAAMs and Phoenixs?

It's a Corsair.

I thought, "well, for once, screw realism." :wink:

I have also to admit that I realized now that "2AR" doesn't stand for Dual AHM rack, but rather Dual ARM rack.

Then again, it might not be necessary to mod an AHM rack, since proper editing of the Loadout file yields the same result...

And who would not want a F/A-18 Hornet armed with 10 AMRAAMs?

i think the F-18 of game just carry 12 AIM-7 in 4 dual racks.

What? The stock Mirage factory F/A-18 can carry either four Sparrow and two Sidewinder or two Sparrows and six Sidewinder, due to the "built-in" dual rack on the Outer Wing Station.

You should try this.

The stock maybe, but a modded F-18, well thats another story ;)

Would a phoenix even work on a corsair with its radar? it was meant specifically for the tomcat.

Of course not. It was just a test. Actually the Phoenix were just mounted there because another Dual AMRAAM mount looked weird, as there was not enough space for six AMRAAMs on each wing.

But want I really want is this:

amraamsxz8.th.jpg

:biggrin:

And while there is no real dual rack for the AMRAAM available, some Loadout editing might do the trick (at least after 1991):

ooopsxz8.th.jpg

BAM! Dual AMRAAMs on the inner wing station.

The problem now is the outer wing station. I can't mount AIM-120 by default, because that would mean that I would have no A-A missiles on either wing pylon before 1991, as Sidewinders and AMRAAMs are not interchangable. Strange enough, this is not a problem with the AIM-7. These are interchangable with the AIM-120.

Crusader, 2AR does not seem to work with AMRAAMs. I have put that in and this was the result:

nopeat8.jpg

(Then again, there is no 2AR rack listed in the weaponsdata file and I have some trouble saving my changes...)

But like I said, it's possible to load 10 AMRAAMs on a Hornet through the loadout file.

You just can't do that yourself in the pre-mission loadout menu...

Actually, if you do some clever ini editing, you can get 4 AIM-120s in the loadout menu for the inner stations pretty easily. Here are the following steps:

First, go into your FA-18A_data.ini (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST) file, find the Weapons Stations section, note the first 2 entries:

[LeftInnerWingStation]

//SUU-63 Pylon

SystemType=WEAPON_STATION

StationID=1

StationGroupID=3

StationType=EXTERNAL

AttachmentPosition=-2.227,-1.3,-0.725

AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0

LoadLimit=2280

AllowedWeaponClass=FT,BOMB,RP,CBU,LGB,EOGB

AttachmentType=NATO,USN,USAF

ModelNodeName=LeftPyl

PylonMass=123.8

PylonDragArea=0.03

FuelTankName=Tank300_F18

[RightInnerWingStation]

//SUU-63 Pylon

SystemType=WEAPON_STATION

StationID=2

StationGroupID=3

StationType=EXTERNAL

AttachmentPosition= 2.227,-1.3,-0.725

AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0

LoadLimit=2280

AllowedWeaponClass=FT,BOMB,RP,CBU,LGB,EOGB

AttachmentType=NATO,USN,USAF

ModelNodeName=RightPyl

PylonMass=123.8

PylonDragArea=0.03

FuelTankName=Tank300_F18

Make a copy of this section and paste near the bottom of the Weapons Station section just before the [ECM] lines. Then change what you just pasted in so it looks like this:

[LeftInnerWingAHMStation] <----- changed

//SUU-63 Pylon

SystemType=WEAPON_STATION

StationID=20 <----- new number (this may be a different number than yours - just make sure the number is the next number in sequence)

StationGroupID=3

StationType=EXTERNAL

AttachmentPosition=-2.227,-1.3,-0.725

AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0

LoadLimit=2280

AllowedWeaponClass=AHM,2AR <----- changed

AttachmentType=NATO,USN,USAF

ModelNodeName=LeftPyl

LaunchRailNodeName=LAU-105 <----- line added

PylonMass=123.8

PylonDragArea=0.03

[RightInnerWingAHMStation] <----- changed

//SUU-63 Pylon

SystemType=WEAPON_STATION

StationID=21 <----- new number (this may be a different number than yours - just make sure the number is the next number in sequence)

StationGroupID=3

StationType=EXTERNAL

AttachmentPosition= 2.227,-1.3,-0.725

AttachmentAngles=0.0,-1.0,0.0

LoadLimit=2280

AllowedWeaponClass=AHM,2AR <----- changed

AttachmentType=NATO,USN,USAF

ModelNodeName=RightPyl

LaunchRailNodeName=LAU-105 <----- line added

PylonMass=123.8

PylonDragArea=0.03

You have now created 2 inner wing AHM plyons that won't show up if you load up any other type of weapons (assuming you don't have AHM,2AR listed in any of your 4 inner wing stations). Then go up in the FA-18A_data.ini file and look for the [LeftWing] and [RightWing] entries. Look specificially at the SystemName entries. Add the following lines to the [LeftWing] and [RightWing] respectively:

For the [LeftWing]

SystemName[xxx]=LeftInnerWingAHMStation

For the [RightWing]

SystemName[xxx]=RightInnerWingAHMStation

Remember, make sure the SystemName[xxx] number is the next number in sequence within the [LeftWing] and [RightWing] entries. Save the data file and close.

Then (this is optional) go into your loadout.ini file and now you can add this entry:

Loadout[20].WeaponType=AIM-120A

Loadout[20].Quantity=2

Loadout[20].RackType=LAU-105

Loadout[21].WeaponType=AIM-120A

Loadout[21].Quantity=2

Loadout[21].RackType=LAU-105

This is just so that the loadout file gives you a default. You will find that you don't have to change your loadout.ini at all if you don't want. You WILL be able to select 4 AIM-120s for the inner pylons. In fact, it looks weird if you only select 2, because now they would hang like a bomb instead of on a rail.

After some further tweaking with the position of the new AHM racks, this is what I've come up with:

img00004fe2.th.jpg

Which looks like this:

img00007jy0.th.jpg

Compared to reality (posted by GoCad):

amraamsxz8.th.jpg

There is clearance between the inner and outer pairs of AMRAAMs. Like I mentioned before though, you can't have only 2 AMRAAMs on the inner stations, because they'll be buried in the plyons.

But it looks pretty, and is user selectable in the loadout screen!

Can you attach your FA-18A_data.ini file to your post? I'll take a look and see if I can help.

PS Actually, never mind...I've posted my data.ini as a text file...check it out...

Crusader, 2AR does not seem to work with AMRAAMs. I have put that in and this was the result:

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3339/nopeat8.jpg

(Then again, there is no 2AR rack listed in the weaponsdata file and I have some trouble saving my changes...)

But like I said, it's possible to load 10 AMRAAMs on a Hornet through the loadout file.

You just can't do that yourself in the pre-mission loadout menu...

ohhh yessss.....it is.

there is no stock dual AHM rail in game.... of course...

how to do...

1. make a copy of the stock LAU-105 dual irm rail

2. rename the the type and full name to whatever you like , e.g LAU-105AHM ( the type name is used for preset loadouts int he RackType= line inthe loadout.ini)

3. change the rack type from 2IR to 2AR.

4. Save.

in the plane data.ini, make sure the AllowedWeaponClass= Line has the AHM and 2AR entries.

The hornet pic in the thread linked above is using exactly this, but I used the old DRA_IRM rack lod since no stock LAU-105 was available back then

Okay, this is going to sound really stupid, but I happened to find this in my Weaponsdata.ini:

ModelName=LAU-105

Attachment02Angle=0.000000,0.000000,5156.620156

It looks like a post weaponspack release addon...simply making a 2AR version of the LAU-105. Maybe this is the problem? Maybe try adding this to your weaponsdata.ini, then use the weapons editor in the standard way.

I can't see anything wrong with your hardpoints as they stand right now. I forgot this entry was in my weaponsdata.ini...so this is maybe what is allowing me to select 4 AMRAAMs.

I guess so. I put that modded LAU-105 into the weapondata and now it works.

Thanks guys!
