Carrier Won't Appear in WoE campaign

Hi all-

 

I have a standalone installation of WoE. I do not own WoV or SF. Is WoV necessary to play a carrier-based campaign? The reason I ask is I followed to a tee the procedure for adding carriers to a default campaign, using the 3rd party Ark Royal instead of the Coral Sea. When I attempt to fly a mission my plane is parked in the middle of the ocean - where the carrier should be but with no carrier present. I tried several other things to no avail - other 3rd party models, the Coral Sea (which is included in WoE). Nothing works, same symptoms each time. Same thing happens when attempting to use carrier-based 3rd party campaigns on 3rd party maps. To my knowledge I am not missing anything. I checked that I had everything necessary. Interestingly, though, single missions with carrier ops do work. Any ideas? I've searched several forums for answers. I have the latest patch installed. Thanks!

It would be easier to see what is wrong if one could take a look at your modified campaign_data file.

 

Btw, you did add a carrier station to the GermanyCE_targets file, right?

also check the Ark Royal ini file. Is it updated to the sp4? that sounds like the problem.

I don't think that the Ark Royal is the problem. I once had played around with a campaign using the GermanyCE terrain and had no problems to put in the Ark and fly off it.

 

What bcyc described sounds in fact like what happens when you made a mistake with the carrier number (i.e. they don't match). Perhaps that could be it.

Ark Royal was built before the last couple of patches. I'm in the process of partially rebuilding her/adding details for an updated file, but until then, make sure that these lines are present in the Ark Royal configuration.ini :

Also, is WoE set-up for carrier activity? The reason I ask is that Ark Royal is assigned to the "Royal Navy". If the "Royal Navy" isn't listed in the game's nations.ini, then it won't show up.

That appears to be it. I got the Tarawa to work, but when I simply swap in the Ark Royal it stops working. What do I need to change in the ini file?

Absolutely. And the Ark Royal works just fine.

If you get a carrier into the stock WOE 1979 campaign, can you post the coordinates for others to use? I would greatly appreciate it.

 

I'd like to put a US carrier into the campaign, but I have no idea as to where I'd have to put it on the map...knowing my luck, it would end up sailing down the Rhine or the A6 autobahn. I'm going to use a WOV carrier (merged install) and use the appropriate F-4's from in-game.

I have no idea as to where coordinates are on the game map, so this will help me out immensely in my quest to be a USN fighter pilot versus the Red Horde.... :biggrin:

Actually, if you just use Kreelin's Mission Editor (located here at Combatace) you can open up a terrain file. It will show the map of the terrain. Just run the crosshairs over the location you want the carrier.

 

The coordinates will show up (I think at the bottom) on the editor. Write those coordinates down.

 

Done! You now have the coordinates to place your carrier.

 

Also, look at these threads carefully if you want to add carriers in the future. It's actually easy if you can handle a text editor.

You DO have a carrier in you /groundobjects folder, right??

 

Did you add the carrier to the WoE_Types.ini????

Do you have a carrier in your groundojects folder now?

 

Why don't you post the lines of your campaign_data file here, so that other could have a look at it.

 

Just the carrier revelant data, that is carrierUnits and carrier-based airunits. That would make it easier to determine what could be wrong there.

Hmmm, interesting campaign. There seems to be nothing worng with the carrier placement, but what strikes me as odd is how you added additional units. Sure, it's a PITA do add additional units since you have to check the AirUnit number order, but adding them after the stock units, especially when mixing friendly and enemy forces had caused trouble in my campaigns. Thus I am curious whether you could launch a campaign with a French or USAF unit that is listed after the WP units.

 

Also, UnitID refers to the AirUnit number and those do not match in your campaign.ini
