Low visibility markings

Recommended Posts

This question has been on my mind since i saw the first low-viz marking.

But what are they for actually?

- err...it is kind of in the name, eh? "Low-visibility" as in "difficult to see"...

- there are rules in international conventions that say an airplane must be marked...just like soldiers must wear uniforms...

Right, but those rules don't say "visible from XYZ distance."

French Rafale M's are the best example. The markings are not visible from more than 50 meters of distance plus they look like the plane has been in continuous service for 20 years and the markings faded away due to sun :haha:

rules also very by type of aircraft too it seems...look at an RC-135 and it still has the old-school "here I am" markings despite its tasking while fighters have camo
