+Gocad Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 (edited) I am wondering if there's a handyman who is able and willing to make this skin. I'm quite confident that it will come with the release of the F-8H/P, just as Dave said a few pages ago. Something tells me that he knows what he is talking about. Edited June 29, 2008 by Gocad Quote

Something tells me that he knows what he is talking about. Yeah Gocad, I suspect he's a stockholder for Ling-Temco-Vought and is using the remainder of the original design team to work for/with him! How else to produce such fine stuff..... genius?? Therefore, I will wait patiently! Quote
+Gocad Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Btw, is there any interest in a few additional Sundowner skins? They're basically finished, which isn't much of surprise since both skins didn't need much work. Definitely a lot less than the VF-154 Dash One skin that's currently driving me crazy... Quote
+Dave Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 Gocad Seeing how they are my favorite USN unit. There is never enough of those skins. Quote
+Gocad Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Hmm, perhaps I should do the CVW-11 and 8 as well then. That should cover all their deployments, since I do remember that Corktip has made a CVW-16 skin for the F-8C (DO WANT!) Quote
charlielima Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) You bet Gocad. There seams to be a shortage of crud skins in service with west coast CAGs / NX tail codes. CL Edited July 1, 2008 by charlielima Quote
+Gocad Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) Crusader skins for west coast units that have not been done yet...hmm, let's see: - VF-51 Screaming Eagles, CVW-5 (tailcode NF)* *: I know corktip has already made this one, but that one is for the F-8J and I'm currently trying to figure out how to include CAG-specifc markings. - VSF-86 'Gators' (that's what I like about the Crusader, it was not only used by fighter squadrons) - VF-91 Red Lightnings, CVW-9 (tailcode 'NG'), later redesignated VF-194 after assignment to CVW-19 - VF-111 Sundowners, CVW-11 (tailcode 'NH') - that can be done in a few minutes - VF-124 Crusader College, CVWR-12 (tailcode 'NJ') - VF-141 Iron Angels, CVW-14 (tailcode 'NK'), later redesignated VF-53 after assignment to CVW-5 - VF-142 Fighting Falcons, CVW-14 (tailcode 'NK'), later redesignated VF-96 after assignment to CVW-9 - VF-154 Grandslammers, CVW-15 (tailcode 'NL') - for the F-8B, I'm currently working on it. - VF-211 Checkertails, CVW-2 (tailcode 'NE') - that might be a nice Dash 1 skin Edited July 1, 2008 by Gocad Quote
charlielima Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Iron Angels did quite a few cruises so a few choices for boat names. From Badfranks post: F-8E Crusader USN VF-53 'Iron Angels' USS TICONDEROGA (CVA-14) 04/1964 05/1966 NF F-8E Crusader USN VF-53 'Iron Angels' USS HANCOCK (CVA-19) 01/1967 07/1967 NF F-8E Crusader USN VF-53 'Iron Angels' USS BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31) 01/1968 10/1968 NF F-8J Crusader USN VF-53 'Iron Angels' USS BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31) 03/1969 11/1970 NF NK, NM, and NE do something for me because my time on the Coral Sea and Midway. An NK or NM tail code on your RF or TPS skin would fit the bill too. Quote
+Gocad Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Yeah, I know. But I prefer doing skins of units that have not been done yet. Peg Leg Petes anyone? Quote
+Gocad Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 An NK or NM tail code on your RF or TPS skin would fit the bill too. NK tail code? TPS? You called? Btw: F-8D of VF111, CVW-11 I'm going to release this skin and the other two (see above) as a once I fixed those decal issues (size/position) Quote
The_Editor Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Excellent, as always. Will you be releasing the "Midway" Vf-111 skin? Quote
+Gocad Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Yes, I will release the VF-111 CVW-2 & 11 plus the VF-26 skins as a pack for the F-8D once I have fixed a few issues with the decals. Shouldn't take too long, I hope. Quote

+Gocad Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Time for some (apparently minor) updates! This skin looks finished, but it isn't, since I need do replace Omar with an earlier version.... Ah, detailsdetailsdetails. The CVW-2 skin is finshed (I think), so I might upload that one quite soon. Quote
+Gocad Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 (edited) Speaking of Sundowner skins... I couldn't resist to do this one as well, but that's the last variation, I promise! Seriously. Edited August 3, 2008 by Gocad Quote
The_Editor Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Nice link to a model of that last Sundowner repaint: http://gustav.x-y.net/htmbox(3)/f-8e(1).html Quote
+Gocad Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hey, thanks! I had been looking for pics of that kit. I guess it's close enough. Quote
gbnavy61 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Great work, all. Love the models and the skins bring more personality to the jet, especially the high-viz. Be cool if MF was also cooking up a 'Twosader' just to add to the whole collection. When you're out of F-8's... Edited August 4, 2008 by gbnavy61 Quote
+Gocad Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I do rather have more remanufactured Crusaders (H,K,L...with wing plyons, of course.) than a two-seater. IMHO the Crusader meant to be a single-seater. End of story. The Hornet (especially the SupaHornet) on the other hand looks a lot better as a two-seater. Seriously, I do think that the E-model looks weird while the F looks cool. I'm not sure whether this makes any sense, but that's how I see it. Quote

I think it might just be a neat way to round out the collection. Either way, let's have more 'Saders. Quote
+Gocad Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Get some ... skins! (Okay, they still need to be approved, but I have finally uploaded my Sundowner repaints which cover their first three deployments to Vietnam. Also, before anybody asks, the Sunburst was added only after 1966. ) Quote
