"On 29 May, which is presumed washercules5na8.jpg a C-130, I witnessed an unusual Brigade and the failed attack on the isolated oil Task Force of the British" British Wye. " The ship was at 47 ° 54 'S and 30 º 19' W, north of the South Georgia when the C-130 he made a last reconnaissance at low altitude and 15 minutes later returned to bombardearlo.

The 1st Group has not recognized until now that mission, but the description of the incident made by the crew of the tanker leaves little doubt that this was a reconnaissance operation over long distances, with some offensive capabilities. The C-130 made a second pass about 150 feet high and eight 500-pound bombs were launched from the ramp. Four fell into the sea without exploding, three detonated a babor and bounced on the deck without explosion. The C-130 climbed into the clouds and left the area. "

"Argentineans twice attacked tankers quite far away. On May 29, a C-130 (with a pylon Pucara) throwed some bombs against the British tanker" British Wye. "Bomb hit and bounced off the ship. The second attack (also by C-130) was done on june 8. The victim was the american tanker "Hercules." UXB hit her and had to make an emergency stop at Montevido harbour. "

In the first text it is said that the bombs showed the hercules from the cave while at the other (in English) said that resulting from the underwing pylons, but we should add that: The Air Force gave all its means to try to attack the English fleet, it is unbelievable but true that a C-130 Hercules aircraft, a mole and four distinctly cargo-had been placed in two portabombas, with a tailored look of Pucara, attacked a tanker (probably the British Wye ) leaving him out of combat. The attack was carried out at high altitude, because the configuration of this C-130 so required. But this attack was not the only below another event similar TANQUERO THE MYSTERY OF HERCULES: June 8 aircraft arg detects the C 130 (TC 68) of the 1st Brig Aerea the bombing. Then what makes a Canberra (B-105) (left MdelP) it reached with at least 1 pump 500 pounds, did not explode. After the attack the ship was directed to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and it was very risky to defuse the bomb which was towed offshore. It sank. (It is not known whether the crew or exploded by the bomb) the vessel was without load of oil. The FAA lo habia attacked by verifying that helped the British fleet.

.

The interesting thing is that moving 220.000to (250 meters) at full load! Ie it becomes the largest ship in history sunk by military action.

Sp seriously the C-130 can carry and drop bombs? Now that's interesting. There must be some sort of conversion in the basic avionics. I mean at least a reticle for aiming and dropping.

May be the Pakistanis were the first t ouse C-130s as bombers. In the 1965 Indo-Pak war, the Pakistanis dropped bombs using C-130s(from the cargo bay). Indian An-12s were used as bombers in the same way.
