Individual Serial Numbers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out how to give each individual plane in a squadron it's own serial number on the tail, like the stock planes have. I've positioned the decals, and they fit fine, but I can't get them to change at all, no matter what number plane I pick in the loadout screen. There's nothing on this in this the KB, and the numbers would be the finishing touch on a skin I am modifying. Any input is appreciated!

This is a silly mistake I usually make, that's the reason I mention it, but what decal level have you set for them? I've made some individual aircraft numbers and placed them by copying and pasting another decal call out, then forgot to change the decal level to 2. It's the only thing I can think of.

It's the decal level in the decal.ini that's important.

AFAIK,

decal level 0 will give all a\c the same decals (for star & bar, roundels etc).

decal level 2 will give each a\c it's own decal (serials, codes, noseart etc).

Someone more qualified will be able to give a better answer as I'm still a decal rookie really.

level 0 = national insignia tied to the nations.ini

level 1 = squadron markings tied to the squadronlist.ini

level 2 = individual aircraft markings (tail numbers etc) decal000 to decal099 format

okay, I already had the decal level at 2, and I'm using the number decals and the numbers.lst file from the F-4E, and the numbers still don't change. I'll try russo's method, see if I can get it to work that way.

EDIT: YES! IT WORKS!

turns out that it wasn't the decal level that was at 2, it was the "DecalMaxLOD", whatever the heck that does. Anyway, it works now, and even better, it looks good! Thanks for the help, maybe I'll put this in the KB when I have some time.

AFAIK DecalMaxLOD determines on which LOD (remember that some aircraft have several LODs) the decals will show up. This means that decals can disappear once you get further away from an aircraft.

level 0 = national insignia tied to the nations.ini

level 1 = squadron markings tied to the squadronlist.ini

level 2 = individual aircraft markings (tail numbers etc) decal000 to decal099 format

level 3 = killmarks

that should complete the list.
