This is going to be my first campaign, so I haven’t a clue when it will be ready. Also I don’t skin or model so I will only use what is out there. It will be for WOE.

The Campaign will be called “A Last Desperate Act”

The Timeline is this

2nd of August 1990 Iraq invades Kuwait

17th January 1991 after the world has watched in awe at the build up of the Coalition forces the air war begins.

And now my campaign starts.

Early morning 18th January 1991. In a last desperate act, while the eyes of the world are focused on the skies over the Persian Gulf, Kim II-sung unleashes the might of his North Korean armed forces in one last attempt to unify Korea.

Any thoughts or ideas, greatly appreciated.

Cheers

If you haven't read Larry Bond's "Red Storm Rising", do so. It's a highly plausible account of a second Korean War, and there'll be quite a lot in there that might give you some inspiration.

Sounds good...

Yeah I used to have Red Phoenix, wish I hadn't got rid of it. If I remember correctly F-16As against MiG23 and Russian MiG 29s

Thats the one... And as there are a few Japanese Jets roaming around how about throwing some of these in... F-4EJ and F-15CJ... Just a thought though...

Sounds good to me...

And yes it's Red Phoenix... and was a very well written imho book and I am sure the USN kept a carrier loitering out there during storm...

Hi PACMAN

Yes had thought about F-4EJ and F-15CJ, will have them doing CAP and Intercept missions from Japan. Don't think they would deploy to Korea or escort or strike missions.

Cheers

A little update of the Allied air units that will be included. Am using Modern Korea from scrappers Push To Far at the moment. If a newer version of the Korean map comes out before I finish, I will use that map. Have tried to use units that there are skins for and that were not involved in Desert Storm. Cannot find any USMC units at the moment. Am open to ideas of what other nations that would send help to South Korea. So if you have any ideas please post away. I did consider some Tornado F-3s but think the RAF was a bit stretched with DS.

Cheers

Am open to ideas of what other nations that would send help to South Korea. So if you have any ideas please post away.

In the first Korean War these are the countries that sent troops to help South Korea - from http://korea50.army.mil/history/factsheets/allied.shtml :-

Fifteen foreign nations other than the United States and South Korea sent combat forces to serve in the United Nations Command in Korea during the Korean War. Five noncombatant nations provided hospitals or ambulance units. Approximately 150,000 foreign servicemen fought, and foreign casualties included 3,360 killed, 11,886 wounded and 1,801 servicemen missing in action. There were 1,376 foreign prisoners of war repatriated to 12 countries in 1953.

Foreign Ground Forces

Fourteen foreign nations sent ground forces to Korea. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom comprised the British Commonwealth Forces. Belgium, Luxembourg, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Thailand had battalion-sized units attached to U.S. Army divisions; Turkey deployed an infantry brigade.

Foreign Naval Forces

Eight foreign nations deployed more than 100 naval vessels to Korean waters, including carriers, destroyers, cruisers, frigates, landing ships, tankers and other utility craft. Foreign naval vessels were assigned by U.S. commanders to Task Force 77, the carrier strike force; Task Force 95, the blockading and escort force; Task Force 90, the amphibious landing force; and Task Force 96, the logistical support force.

Foreign naval vessels participated in the Inchon landing; the evacuation of United Nations ground forces from Nampo, Hungnam and Wonsan; shore bombardment of North Korea's coastlines; and patrols of the sea lines of communication to South Korea.

Foreign Air Forces

Australia's 77th Fighter Squadron was the first foreign unit to arrive in Korea on July 2, 1950. It was attached to the 35th U.S. Fighter Group.

South Africa's 2nd Fighter Squadron was attached to the U.S. 18th Fighter Group. It provided close air support to U.N. forces.

Australia, Canada, Greece and Thailand provided air transport units to the United Nations Command.

BTW the RAF never sent any Harriers to Desert Storm (but we would need a GR7 for that time period), nor any carriers, although Invincible went to the Med I think. RN carriers would have had Sea Harrier FA.2s at that time which we do have available.

Thanks for the info allenjb42.

I was reading about the Australian 77th fighter squadron in my World Air Forces book, apparently they specialise in close air support while 3rd squadrons main role is air defence. May have to include the 77th but using the 3rd skin.

Cheers
