HBO movie out called "Taking Chance" starring Kevin Bacon is a moving and sensitive movie about escorting the remains of a Marine killed in action in Iraq to his home and final resting place in Wyoming. Evidently, it is a movie rendition of actual events. Kevin Bacon does a masterful job, as usual, and the movie appears pointed at the saddest intersection between civilian life and military life in the US. I came away sad and proud. This is for those who have lost family in military service and, if done like this in every case, is as it should be.

saw a preview and a great write up.

I'm not sure I could handle watching it until both my sons are back.

(there goes my tough guy image...............)

Ugh, I had to do that for a buddy from HighSchool when he was killed right in front of me. Not a fun job and I feel sorry for people that continually have to do it.

I saw a write up on it in one of the USAF pubs, I can't remember which. It was sitting on a table on top of other issues!

They got a lot of help from the USMC in making it. It was written by the character that Bacon plays.

I was on the Honor Guard for awhile. I still help out when they need me. (Even with those screws in my back, I still do it, least I can do) Had to help a friend take his brother off a C-17 not to long ago after he was killed in Iraq. Don't know if I can watch that or not.

It is a very tough movie to watch if you have family casualties. What makes it worthwhile and makes me very proud is that in an era of disconnected media and poor-mouthing A**holes around every corner, one thing remains certain, the services and the American people will take care of their own with honor, dignity, and care.

Jug, I am going to have to disagree with you on one point.....it is a tough movie to watch, whether or not you have family members that are casualties. None of my family members have been casualties, having been in the Marine Corps, and my brother also formerly in the Marine Corps, and a lot of my friends still in the Marine Corps, it is very difficult to watch. I am watching it right now, it is very hard fighting back the tears.

A lot has been going through my mind as I watch the movie, a lot of my friends are going through their 3rd hump right now, I did zero. I am proud of my service, but somtimes I wish they had never discovered my medical condition and I could have stayed in. Higher powers had something else to say in the matter.

I would recommend this incredible chronicle to anyone, but I warn you, it is going to be difficult to watch.

I was on vacation in Orlando Fl. It was a went to the pool and got wore out day chasing the 3 and 1 year old. So the Wife, father in law and I decided to eat in, then watch a movie. That was the one we watched, it was wierd. We just put the kids to bed sat down turned on the tube. I didnt know the channels on the local cable punched in a number and it was just coming on we decided to watch it. We were all very emotional. My wife was not with me when I was in the service so she doesn't understad that part of my life very well, and how big it is a part of me, and how it influenced on who I became. I think this movie helped explain to her how important military service is for those that gave time, or those that gave it all.

Be safe all, later.. out.
