+eburger68 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Hi All: This weapon has me stumped -- I am baffled as to how to use it. Every time I select a ground target and fire a Bullpup at it the missile simply plows into the ground well short or well long of the target. If I manage to hit anything, it is solely by accident. The mission log states "Capt Pilot fired AGM-12 Bullpup at (unknown)," which seems to suggest that I haven't properly selected the target. Could anyone provide some tips on how to use this weapon? Thanks, Eric L. Howes Quote
Lt. James Cater Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I've never used this weapon but trust me, historically speaking, your life expectancy is short using a Bullpup anywhere near serious defenses. Quote
dsawan Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Try from a range greater then 5 miles or 5-9 and see if it heads to target. If you ara too close like 3 miles or so, it goes into ground. Quote
MigBuster Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 haha - With the real thing you had to go into a "low powered glide" at about 20,000ft then guide the thing down with a little joystick - while doing this you were a sitting duck. best advice with this one is take 10 x Mk117s instead :) Quote

+eburger68 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) Folks: Thanks for the replies. I understand that the Bullpup had a number of problems and was not a favorite among pilots. Nonetheless, several missions in YAP1 (and, presumably, forthcoming missions in YAP2) use the Bullpup, so I'd like to get a handle on it. I've now tried firing the missile from higher altitudes and greater ranges from the target -- same problem as before. It plows into the ground without tracking to the target, and the mission log reports I fired the missile at "(unknown)." I'm starting to wonder if there's something else I need to do to select the target so that the missile recognizes it. Any ideas? FWIW, I've been testing with the YAP F-100D, but I've seen the same results in the F-105D. Thanks, Eric L. Howes Edited March 14, 2009 by eburger68 Quote
+eburger68 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) Folks: Quick followup: in my testing AI pilots don't have much more success with the Bullpup than I do, but they do seem to be able to select targets. Mission log reports their attempts with the missile as: "Lt. Rasimus fired AGM-12 Bullpup at Bridge End," and so forth, not "(unknown)" which is what I get. Eric L. +FLOGGER23 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Well, based in which i've read about the weapon was not too useful (if any), but in my experience, i've never failed with it shooting from 8 to 10 miles at 8000 to 10.000 feet, so, i don't know if it will help you; Just load it, aim it and fire it............. Silverbolt Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 step one: put yout aircraft in the target line Step two: close your eyes Step three: Pull the trigger Quote
+eburger68 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Silverbolt: Thanks, but those are exactly the procedures that I've been using from various altitudes and distances from the target, all with no success. FWIW, I did finally get it working. I changed the "Weapons" difficulty in Gameplay Options from Hard to Normal -- magically, the Bullpup now behaves as expected, tracking to the target instead of plowing into the ground as if completely unguided.
