Dumb question

Recommended Posts

Have you asked Mister Google? He knows alot! I already found this; Lockheed publicized that the XF -90 was the first US AF aircraft to fly with afterburners (in 1949)

The Vought F6U Pirate was the first a/c to use afterburner. Though, it's service life (don't even know if it can be considered operational) was short.

I know the MiG-17 was the first major Soviet fighter to have it. I've no idea which was the first significant US fighter to have it.

I was thinking, maybe the first "major" US fighter with a burner was the F-104, but I have no idea. Just my two cents

The F-104 I think was the first major Mach 2 fighter. We had ones before that which couldn't reach close to Mach 2.
