Tripe & Flaming Onions Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Hi All, Have just joined the forum today, trying to scrape together some knowledge before the P3 disk arrives. Spent the last 8 years flying Sturmovik from the original to '46. aka "Toasted_Toad" on Ubizoo and AAA. Do you have anything like Bearcat's "Nugget's Guide" for OFF? Have read Tips & Cheat's to get some good ideas but need to know how to add missions and mods etc. Looking forward to this, gonna be a lot of fun going by the comments on the forum. A big pre-thanks to all the work done in making this sim. Cheers, T&FO. Quote
Red-Dog Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Hi Tripe.... Even if you can't mod this sim your are going to have loads of fun,if your into bits of wood and fabric then this is the place to be.. Every one will help you with what ever you need... Happy landings. Quote
sitting_duck Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 If you want to build missions, you have to use the start>programs>overflandersfiles>mission builder....trying to get in any other way will probabley fail. there is a help file in there, and at the bottom of the help table of contents, there is a calis walk thru,,or something close to that...and its fairly good at walking you thru everything. not sure exactly how you upload anything you have created to the download page, but im sure someone can give you that information. should you come up with anything good, always willing to try out a new mission. A big pre-thanks to all the work done in making this sim. Cheers, T&FO. How are ya, and welcome to the OFF Community. Be prepared to re-learn everything about air combat that you thought you knew from IL2. :) As far as modding OFF... it is a mod already, and allow us to do that for you. All we want you to do is enjoy it, let us take care of the rest for you. It's good to see more IL2 guys here as you come from a Sim that has people playing it that are true dogfight specialists. You'll get on fine with OFF. It might take a while, and you'll die a lot until you start learning the pros and cons of each plane and each encounter. Is you are happy, and you like OFF, by all means, go back to the IL2 Community and invite some friends. Tell us what you think once you get it up and running. All the best, OvS Quote
griphos Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Welcome aboard. As a fellow IL2'er, I can tell you that you this sim is a completely different experience, mod-wise. There are skins you can download, but the fellows who built this have already included thousands for you (yes, thousands!). As for missions, I think the heart of OFF is the campaign, and it is a doozy. You'll find a kind of immersion here I've not ever found in IL2. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE flying MP coop missions in IL2, but the campaign in OFF, where you enlist a pilot (repeatedly...after being killed over and over again!) and get to know your AI wingmen and squad mates and work through a war that has been recreated with almost fanatical historical faithfulness will get you sweating and exulting in new ways, I think. The scenery is incredible, and the creak of the wood and fabric wings as you stress them to their limits trying to get back on the tail of the Alb.DIII that just passed you will make you almost feel the wind against your face and smell the castor oil smoke blowing by your cockpit! As a long-time simmer (and hopefully experienced with the full realism FMs in IL2), I encourage you to fly something like the DiD standard here with realistic FM. No need to be too finicky about it to start, but I've found that flying without much in the way of distractions really puts me in the sim, and makes me be a better pilot making better decisions about when and where to engage. As you can tell, I think this sim is fantastic. I only fly it and IL2 MP coop (poor FSX just sits there all lonely on my hard drive now). And I've not found anything that compares to this one in terms of immersion and accuracy and an absolute wealth of wonderful little details. You're going to have fun! Quote
Tripe & Flaming Onions Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Thanks for the replys guys, now I'm even more impatient for it to arrive. I am expecting another hard learning curve but if I get out of it anything like IL2 has given me it will be well worth it. Cheers, T&FO Quote
+Olham Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) ...if I get out of it anything like IL2 has given me it will be well worth it. Even better, Tripe, even better! I liked IL2 (best in multiplayer co-op), but here, you are much closer to all the action; you are sitting in an OPEN cockpit, you can hear the enemies' engines and gunfire. I have come off any other sim, and don't play any games no more. This sim is my (spare time) life now! Oh, I forgot: Welcome! Or: Willkommen! - in case you fly on my side! +RAF_Louvert Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Welcome aboard T&FO. I just got started in this outstanding sim myself and I can tell you that it is GREAT! You will be severely hooked in no time flat. Cheers! Lou Quote
TSmoke Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 All I can say is welcome and have a blast. I have been a flight simmer since I bought my first Apple2 in 1980. Have bought every stinking one and junked pretty much 95% of them ever produced. Have flown IL2 from the demo to 1946 and a few mods, was the cats azz until this jewel came in the mail. To be honest IL2 or 1946 or whatever you wish to call it has not had 1 seconds worth of flight time since I installed OFF Phase 3. It is the best out there, so have fun and welcome aboard. Quote
Jammer28 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Another welcome to ya Tripe! (poor FSX just sits there all lonely on my hard drive now) Same thing here. This sim is my (spare time) life now! Same again. Quote
