+Dave Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 FYI I merged a couple topics. But the credit for this topic goes to Kopis n Xiphos. Happy Birthday by the way. Quote
eraser_tr Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Voices would be a big thing that is sorely needed. They mostly sound like a bunch of excited rednecks in flight school. I've never heard radio chatter like that anywhere. But its very expensive to do. The battlefield needs more life to it. One thing struck me regarding cost and programming such things. There are older simulators that did dynamic campaigns and whatnot where the source code was released and freely available. EECH comes to mind, if it's been open source, could not some code be utilized for things like a helicopter FM or livening up the battlefield environment a bit more? Or are there conditions on the code about that? Quote
Emp_Palpatine Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 For me, Tk's games hit that sweet spot between complexity and playability. For the first time, I'm flying jets and firing missiles without feeling overwhelmed by the "keyboard drill". That's exactly why I love his games. These are not lite sims, especially since lateste releases, netheir are they keyboard drill -thanks for that term!- This point, plus the covered eras, plus the outstanding community and the awesome mods made by awesome peoples. I must admit I lack imagination, but I apart from new theaters/new planes, I haven't much add-ons to ask for. Avionics things and stuff? I'm very happy when new features do appear, but as I lack the technical culture about radars, RWR and things like that, I just can't imagine what can be improved... Well perhaps the laser guided bomb thing and other A2G munitions. Apart from that: I'm happy with the current graphics, If I had a state of the art PC, I would ask for better ground textures, but that's the limited size of it. AI has been greatly improved since I bought the game, I'm quite happy with it too, but indeed one can always improve it. Well, a few things I would like: easy to use campaign editor, the Red Crown stuffs Dave was talking about, new ini stuffs like this possible escort thing are great too... I'm personnaly glad with the path SFP family took since 2002 and since I got the game. They are definitely not the same games. As soon as I have the correct PC needed, I will buy all the new release without even hesitating. Quote
eraser_tr Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 The terrain textures aren't as big a deal, with the ground shaders they look as good as any sim. I'd just like for the engine to be able to handle denser scenery objects better. These threads always sound as if we want so much and that we're not happy with what we have. That isn't the case, what we already have is the most comprehensive combat flight sim around. Quote
+Gr.Viper Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 what we already have is the most comprehensive combat flight sim around. combat flight sim  Maneuvers, tactics, energy management, full attention to AOA and optimal firing solution... Not systems' manager sim. Only with TW one can study 30 years of air warfare in 10 simple kicks in the butt from AI! Quote

But what we got in mods (repaints, trees, some life in countryside -farms, roadsigns, electrical things) is so great and I take it so much for granted that I would like things like that be part of TK's sims out of the box. I'm not really speaking or caring about skyscrappers in towns actually, as I think they do not fit so much into Europeans or Middle east cities. Don't really know about VN. But of course, all you said and Viper said (loved the combat flight sim versus system management sim thing) got total approval from me. Man, I remember all the way the games took since I got my first copy in 2004... Now, there are clouds, decent AI, populated airbases (with destroyed aircrafts!), enhanced avionics, lots of "under the skin" changes. TK did and is still doing it good. Quote
dsawan Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Hi, i too realize Tk is on a budget and with limited time available to spare. The only thing i'd like to see is enhancements to the naval component of the game. Specifically, escorted warships. perhaps 1-2 new warships like a Russian destroyer and cruiser and a fix to the torpedo issue whereas they drop like a torpedo instead of a missile. i hope in future when funds do become available years from now, there will be a sequel based on naval warfare. Wings over the Atlantic focusing on the Russian Navy or Russian presence in the Mediterranean, either 60's era during the Arab-israeli conflict where the superpowers fight for influence there ora fictional future conflict now that Russia is preparing to restablish a permanent base there.
