How to stop the plane?

Recommended Posts

Newbie here. I can now manage to touch the ground without incident. But how do I stop the plane? I always run aground. I know 'K' is the wheel breaks. But it does not help. Do I press and hold it? Is this different from the parking break switch? Anything else I should keep in mind?

Yes, it's a press-and-hold button, not a toggle "on/off" like a parking brake.

Press and holding is a surefire way to burn out your brakes before the plane is anywhere near a stop. Make sure you flare as much as possible before even considering the wheel breaks otherwise they're useless after burning out.

Aero brake as long as you can, once your speed gets low the jet should lower to the ground. Stomping on the pedals is a good way to get hot brakes.

Best way is to practice over and over again. I try to touch down just above stall speed.keep the pipper on the far end of the runway.

I've never burned out my brakes. Are you sure you can do that. I have landed got all three wheels down, then held the brakes till a complete stop. No burned brakes.
