Rickitycrate 10 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) The cheap bastid, myself, got a set of Thrustmaster Rudder Control System pedals for next to nothing, of course. I was wondering if anybody uses or has used this set? Do I have any hope of using them running Vista? I'll have to use a USB adaptor. Do you think I'll need software? I haven't tried them yet. It seems to be very well made, mostly metal. Self centering. Wide placement for feet. May not work. Sometimes cheap gets you nowhere. Any help? Thanks, Jim I found a website that is giving me some hope. Evidently this was a good rudder control in it's day. Edited June 26, 2009 by Rickitycrate
Olham 164 Posted June 26, 2009 Hey, Jim, the hardware facts sound great - don't think negative, old chap! And forget the 'old' - I'm sure here are so many experts (I'm none. sorry) that you will find help. I remember someone used those (UncleAl ?). I wish you much luck. But I fear, you'll have to learn dogfighting all new again. Please report, how you like them!
Winston DoRight 3 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I use these everyday. Combined with my old Thrustmaster TQS throttle and F-16 FLCS joystick, I have never wanted for anything better. I use the joyport on a Creative Audigy 2 ZS and calibrate within Win XP so I can't comment on how they would work in any USB connection. The only problem with these is when the heavy coil spring breaks. You'll have to find an aftermarket replacement spring as they are just not available from Thrustmaster (Gullimot) anymore. I found a guy years ago that formed his own out of high grade spring steel. I'm using one of his for years now and it hasn't broken whereas the ones I had gotten from Thrustmaster would only last a year or so. I have the old old ones too and just use them for a foot rest. The connection is a bit convoluted. I once tried a USB adapter but nothing worked.
Rickitycrate 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Winston that's encouraging, thank you! Phantom this is a link to the website that might help us http://www.warrenernst.com/thrustmaster
Siggi 10 Posted June 27, 2009 I have a pair, along with the old TQS throttle and stick (un-chipped unfortunately). The centre-spring has a tendency to snap eventually, and the pot will go too but sometimes savable with a good clean. TM replaced both the spring and pot for free some ten years after I'd bought the kit, through a French subsidiary company if I recall correctly. I got the pot working well again by dismantling and cleaning it, so still have the brandnew one somewhere. Very good kit but I'd have no idea how to get it all working again, I have the new Saitek pedals now.
Rickitycrate 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Thanks for the pointers and info Siggi. I will move on to a different set when I can.
Cameljockey 3 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I got a MS Sidewinder FFB stick with a gameport hookup and my machine lacked one. A USB adaptor did not work so I bought one of these. Works like a champ now FFB and all. And only $7.99 US http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829130001 Edited June 27, 2009 by Cameljockey
Rickitycrate 10 Posted June 27, 2009 I remember that CJ, only I am running OFF on a laptop. Would your solution work for me? Prolly not.
Cameljockey 3 Posted June 27, 2009 Probably not. That card is for a desktop. Have you gone to Thrustmaster.com and inquired about it? Maybe they have a workaround. CJ
