AWESOME Superpatch!

Recommended Posts

OBD has outdone themselves yet again with this latest Superpatch. The new look and feel of the menus is spot on for making the sim feel even more immersive and getting me excited and in the mood to do some WWI dogfighting. I absolutely LOVE the look! The new air field clutter and extra details make home base feel even more alive instead of just a place to take off from too.

The flak sounds are perfect. Flying over enemy lines, the flak burst sounds (and visuals!) really makes me feel like I am flying over a war. I can already attest to the fact that the AA fire has become more accurate. As I flew along straight and level admiring the new scenery and terrain details, archie was hard at work getting a bead on me. My triplane took a direct hit and was turned into a bi-plane instantly. Ha. No hard feelings, archie.

The sim is definately more fluid, without any stutter even when the skies are full of a/c and the colors appear more vivid. The Air Start button for faster campaigns is a wonderful idea. We can't all fly DiD standard due to time restrictions so before alot of us were QC junkies just due to time constraints alone. The Air Start option, being able to be chosen on the fly during the Briefing is an outstanding solution to getting everyone into the campaign. Now the excitement and variety of the campaign is open to everyone.

While I have always thought OBD patches were excellent in terms of both game improvement and additional content, I must say this Superpatch is the best patch yet. I feel like I'm flying OFF BHaH V3.5. With new flyable planes, completely integrated into the campaign, also on the way it's like Christmas in August. Wonderful, wonderful work OBD! Thank you.

You are most welcome - more coming in the next month or so...craft packs will be a focal point.

Agreed. The AA looks great. I just had a quick combat, and because all my labels were turned off (because I reset my CFS3 in the workshop) and I didn't have to squint at all. The flak bursts told me exactly where the enemy were. Looked good, sounded good too.

Winder, I'm guessing you, Pol, OVS and the other devs that hang around here are going to get pretty sick of the pats on the back you're going to get as everybody installs this new version.

No. No, I don't suppose you will.

You deserve them all.

Hellshade. Thanks for your post. I thought maybe it was just me being a fanboy. But no, you see these things too. It's not my overactive imagination. It does almost feel like a new sim, 3.5 indeed. How did I get so lucky to get in on this sim? Seems the sky is the limit for our OBD heroes.

Winder,

Yes, like I metioned in my thread on "IT WON'T WORK!!! WAH!!" I just rebooted the sucker, and it suddenly decided that the disc was indeed a gen-oo-ine CFS3 disc, and away she went. Still have to re-tweak it though, but DAMN she looks and goes good.

LOVE this sim. Every day I'm learning new stuff to try or experiment with. I just remapped two commands (Go to virtual cockpit and centre TrackIR) onto one joystick button. Brilliant. And now she looks and sounds better.

Sigh.

Steve, this sim has been a constantly changing, learning and growing experience for me. Just when I get used to one thing there is another change. Some of that has just been upgrading my gear. But then I tried skinning too. All the patches and Dev improvements makes flying this sim a "dynamic campaign" in itself. And I love it!

Most outstanding devs! Thnx so very much! I had just re-tweaked my graphics to finally show a/c damage, look better, and run faster/smoother a couple days ago, and now the new patch is finally here. It's like I keep finding new things almost everyday and just about when I think I've found all the hidden goodies, along comes some more to explore. I too very much enjoy the new splash screen and over all atmosphere the interface revamp brings to this joy of a sim. All I can really say is wow, and this is really a dream come (coming?) true! I could go on and on I am so excited, but will leave some room for others to brag as well. Once again, well done! Pulling chocks.

This is a great patch! Heartfelt thanks to the dev team for such a great effort. This is really beautiful!

I especially appreciate the "pilot cannot die" feature of the QC. That is going to make just wanting to get in and fly a quick one so very much nicer. Thank you for that!

Unfortunately, it doesn't help the "Goose Eggs" I've been getting in campaign. After I applied the patch, I flew my next mission and purposely went the opposite direction (ignoring the waypoints completely) and just flew out for a few minutes and turned around and landed. Before, that almost always gave me a goose egg. This time though it didn't! I got credit for a three minute flight. I thought "Fantastic! The superpatch has fixed the goose-egg problem." Then, I launched my next mission and flew it like I always have (except I ignored a couple of waypoints because I thought I could get away with doing that now), got myself a couple of kills with my wingmen right there to witness. Flew about 1.5 hours and when I landed: GOOSE-EGG!!! Damn!

I'm pretty discouraged at this point. I won't be doing any more campaigns but I guess I can enjoy doing QCs and just enjoying the beautiful graphics, etc. Since I'm about the only one that has this problem, I understand why this doesn't get any attention. I can live with that I suppose.

Thanks again for a great patch!

Sorry I do not understand the issue can you elaborate?

If you are never being credited with kills its possible that you may need to reset the MS CFS3 outcomes file - you can do this in workshops then enlist a new pilot.

Hi Winder,

Sorry, I thought you had probably seen the couple of threads where Condor (the other guy who regularly sees this) and I have talked about this. It hasn't generated much interest as Condor and I appear to be the only ones effected (others have said they see the goose-egg on rare occassions). Here is the tread I started about it:

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=45368

This doesn't happen every time. Condor seems to see it more than I do. It happens to me on about my third or fourth mission. It seems to happen when "good things" happen (a couple of quality kills, etc.) or when I have a very long mission (1.5 hours, etc). My theory has been that I need to follow the waypoints religiously and that helps my chances but I really don't know if that has any effect. Sometimes it seems so but other times it does not. It's discouraging I'll say that as every time I take off I don't know if this one's for "real" or not.

No, I don't want to reset my CFS3 settings yet again nor delete my pilots (again). I have done that so many times that I'm just weary about it. This has become more like a job than a game. Sorry, I really don't want to be whining but after I spend a couple of hours flying a mission where I get a couple of good quality kills only to get a goose-egg, that honestly takes the wind right out of me! I'm pretty saavy and think I know how to trouble-shoot but I'm really out of ideas on this one.

Thanks for your concern.

Wow O.K no I missed that - you should have contacted us on support e-mail!

What are your workshop settings wrt claims?

And what OS?

Also no problem with waypoints - you do not need to follow them to have kills allocated in CFS3.

Great patch Winder and team. Who did the cover art on the main screen? No more time to chat....back to the game now.

I am waiting for the devs to jump on here and go...

"HAH! No one saw it. We added the Fokker D.VIII and a Sopwith Snipe AND NO-ONE NOTICED!"

I think we should all go exploring.

PS I got my new laptop and installed OFF BHaH on there, and just installed the patches. Off to test them out now (at 04:32 am - well I AM on holidays! YAY!)

Sadly Steve not yet - we are working on craft though.

Actually there is a lot in this patch - more than we intended so explore the OFF world....

We did want to share the improvements since OFF's December 2008 release with you guys so that's what 1.32 is about.

Was just pulling your leg. You guys have done an outstanding job. EVERYONE has glowing reports on the new patch. Kudos devs. Great job. And thanks for hanging around here more often than normal to hold our hand if we need assistance (but seriously, you guys make it EASY).

Thanks Winder.

Maybe I'll twist Condor's arm and make him submit a tech support ticket as he can reproduce the problem faster than I can. I'll certainly have him add me to the list though.

Sorry. Should have done this before but I just assumed from all the views on those other threads that everybody that cared saw it. I'll stop assumin' now.

Could only download the patch this evening, and so I have so far only made one flight.

But that was phantastic. Airfield defense at Le Clos Ferme (in May 1917).

At our takeoff, I saw lots of things around the tents and hangars; then the fields had heaps of mowed gras,

were striped with crop, or ploughed - very nice!

When we reached Le Clos Ferme, we saw lots of Flak puffs, even in the distance - dozens of them!

The Flak fire, plus the front line artillery, added to an incredible battlesound.

The Nupes seemed to last longer now - or did I shoot worse?

Our whole fighting stretched out more; less furball. I found it easier to concentrate on an enemy.

But that may be just coincidence.

Can't wait 'till the next flight tomorrow!

This is quite a nice patch. Tres bien! Drinks all around! I almost thought I was playing a different game when the new splashes and interface came up :).

I just miss the old photo you used to see while waiting for everything to load after hitting "Go to Field". You know, those heavily bundled crewmen walking out of their Nissen huts for the next mission. That guy in the back row who was staring straight at the camera with an "Ave Caesar, morituri te salutant" look on his face.... I could really relate to him; he reminded me of me, and set the proper atmosphere by making me brood on what was about to happen. I miss that guy already. Good-bye, old friend! :drinks:
