Pappy55 1 Posted October 30, 2009 Hi guys.. The other night I started off my first Campaign made a balance of realism and gameplay but most realism is on.. So far so good September 1916 as a member of Jasta 2. Chalked up 7 kills so far.. Boelcke and Richtofen are there though Richtofen has 0 kills. Game date is September 3rd 1916 and I am sure somone will correct me but wasn't Richtofens first kill (confirmed) on the 17th of the same month? Will I be able to transfer to the Jasta 11 if i live long enough? Just been awared the Iron Cross. I hope we get equiped with the Albatros D.II soon. I really don't like the Halbastrad.. Totally enjoying the sim now I have a joystick i am relativly comfortabe with and some time. Now I am an ace I will have to make my own paint scheme. Backon the days of Red Baron 2 I flew a camo style blue and light blue SE5a
Olham 164 Posted October 30, 2009 Pappy, the Halberstadt feel quite good, once you have become an experienced pilot. At the beginning, the Albatros D II would be nicer. But you'll get it soon. You can advance the date, when you choose a Jasta, by clicking on that dart right of the shown date. And yes, MvR had his first victory on 17th. I think, he then had the D II already. Will I be able to transfer to the Jasta 11 if i live long enough? Not without tweaking your pilot's text files. Otherwise, once you join a squadron, it's til death do you part. Of course, some squadrons change their names and/or numbers along the way, but it's still the same squadron.
Hasse Wind 46 Posted October 30, 2009 Yeah, I also miss that transfer option we had in Red Baron. P4 maybe?

Tanyrhiew 0 Posted October 30, 2009 Sounds like your having more luck with your first campaign than me. Mine lasted precisely 35 minutes before getting jumped by an albatros while flying straight & level before spending the rest of the war as a guest of the Kaiser. Anyone had a shorter campaign? Siggi 10 Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) The nectar of heroes... What beverage is that? Never mind, I found it: http://www.thedrinkshop.com/products/nlpdetail.php?prodid=751 Edited October 30, 2009 by Siggi
Bullethead 12 Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) Anyone had a shorter campaign? Died less than 1 minute into my 1st mission, which was a scramble. Got vulched before my wheels left the ground. This is why I don't do scrambles. Edited October 30, 2009 by Bullethead
Tanyrhiew 0 Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) Beats my effort That slit trench does look inviting! PS Perhaps the Womens Auxillary Balloon Corps should have been my preferred option... Edited October 31, 2009 by Tanyrhiew

Yup...very first pilot died after less than five minutes. Scramble with Nieuport 17s already diving on us (me fiddling with engine start and why I don't play with engine management anymore), taxi over the grass, lift off, hear the whine of a 17 and here takka takka takka, see flame from engine, ground rushing up and then the mercy screen 'You have died'. Probably close to three minutes maybe? But I perservered. LOVE this sim. mmMMmmm Jaegermeister....fine beverage. Edited October 31, 2009 by Baldric
JFM 18 Posted October 31, 2009 MvR was in Jasta 2 from 1 September but the Staffel was underequipped and only had a rag-tag handful of airplanes, and only one was a Halberstadt. He flew sorties 14 and 15 September, flying the Halberstadt or perhaps a Fokker D.I, but on the 16th J2 received 6 new Albs. 5 were D.Is and the sixth was a D.II. Boelcke flew the D.II so MvR's first victory 17 September was flying a D.I. The sim is limited with what it can reproduce but I'm guessing (please correct me if wrong) you'll get the D.II (no D.I in sim yet) by the 16th. Since some other unmentionable sim has turned more and more into a stuttering slideshow nightmare with each patch, I'm starting an OFF campaign. Maybe I'll join your Staffel! Olham 164 Posted November 1, 2009 Yeah, welcome in Jasta 2, JFM! I also have a pilot there. You'll get the Albatros on September 19th there, I believe to remember. If you start earlier, you can fly the Halberstadt for a bit, which is not bad, if you know what you're doing. She climbs pretty well, and I could shoot down three Nieuport N11 in that crate. But of course, the trigger fingers are itching for the two 08/15 LMG.
JFM 18 Posted November 1, 2009 Okay, last night I joined Jasta 2 and, indeed, 16 September I had the D.II, so that's when I started. I must say the following three missions were the best and most fun I've ever had with OFF. I actually saw other airplanes, and I actually saw two-seaters. Several times "shrapnel clouds" led to me to the enemy, and one time it was an FE2 trying to sneak back across the deck at treetop height. Most amazing of all is I have ten claims, which is unheard of for me--I got lucky and found some unescorted BE2s, Strutters and Fees and tore through them unmercifully. Fought some Nieuports which really gave me a hell of a time, right down above the trees, but I got a burst into his belly during a head-on pass (I normally avoid those but this was a melee and I was taking any shot I could get) and he wobbled off and crashed. Hopefully I'll get some of those claims. I've had an inordinate number denied in the past but I just didn't like it when I had the "auto claim" feature enabled. So, I'll take my chances. I don't get to fly too often but this weekend I have a little extra time so I'm off to Bertincourt now. I'll see you there, Olham!

I have only encountered scouts/fighters on one mission so far. nearly all my contacts have been two seaters. I actually feel bad shooting them down.. so helples and tempting. I'm looking forward to having twin guns. I just have a bad feeliong about my next mission for no reason 0_o "I know that I shall meet my fate somwhere among the clouds above"
Olham 164 Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) JFM, that's right about the claims - it wouldn't feel good to click on the simple claims proceedure. Be aware, that you must avoid semicolons in claim reports - they work as a setting for "end". Since I regard that, my claims get much better confirmed. We will soon get the new Albatros fighter in Jasta 2, and I tell ya, with those two 08/15 "Spandaus", you will be able to let a Nupe fall out of the sky shreddered to stripes of canvas. Good shooting is most important for that type of fighter, as the French and British can all turn better. I developed an instinctive and pretty good deflection shooting. They don't even get near me. Yes, I will see yer in Bertincourt - remain high! Pappy, with that avatar, you shouldn't worry too much about shooting down the 2seaters - MvR did. You must see it that way: even when they can't fight, they have missions - recon, artillery spotting, aerial photography - and it will be used for killing many of your soldiers. So get them down, boy! (Even if it does feel queesy to down the defenseless BE2c - it is sure a part of the enemy's fight). Av8er 0 Posted November 3, 2009 Anyone had a shorter campaign? When I started an RNAS- 1 pilot the very first mission was a scramble. I took off and started climbing. All of a sudden Boelcke swooped down on to my tail and I was done for. I don't know if it was less than a minute but it was very fast.

Lou Did you forget rudder on takeoff? I did two days ago and my plane rolled to the side as I was gaining airspeed
Olham 164 Posted November 5, 2009 Yup, on some craft, you need some rudder always, and on others I think I get an influence from the wind? Cause sometimes, the Albatros is running straight on, and on other days, there seems to be side wind, and I must correct with rudder. Does anyone else notice that, or do I "dream" something into it here?

Does anyone else notice that, or do I "dream" something into it here? Yup, the wind makes you use different amounts of rudder all the time. On any given mission, the wind will be from a different direction at a different strength than it was last time, and during the mission it's likely to change both direction and strength at least once. Plus, you change directions all the time. Thus, you might be all trimmed out while heading for a waypoint, but once you turn there you'll have to do something with the rudder to account for the different direction you now are to the wind. Pappy55 1 Posted November 6, 2009 WOW dident I say I had a bad feeling about this flight? Took off headed to the front on patrol with the sq. one of our flight decided to disengage and dive away.. he got close.. too close.. He hit my wing tip and pretty much killed my controls.. I got out of there as fast as i could and landed at the nearest airfield I should not be here right now.. Nevr saw what happened to the guy who it me was too busey regaining control and nurseing her home.. My had is soaked in sweat now. But on a lighter side a previous 2 kills were conformed making my score 10 and they gave me another iron cross
