+Piecemeal Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Can anyone give me advice as to what adjustments to make in my TERRAIN_DATA.INI file? Here are the settings in the TERRAIN_DATA.INI file: [WaterTextureMaterial] EffectShaderName=terWaterEffect.fx DepthBufferCheck=TRUE DepthBufferWrite=FALSE RenderedInOrder=TRUE AlphaTestEnabled=TRUE CullMode=CLOCKWISE LightEnabled=TRUE SpecularEnabled=TRUE EmissiveEnabled=FALSE FogEnabled=TRUE AmbientColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 DiffuseColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 SpecularColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 SpecularPower=10.000000 Reflectivity=1.00000 ZBufferOffset=2.000000 BlendOp=BLEND_SRC_ALPHA NumTextureStages=2 TextureStage[01].TextureName= TextureStage[01].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[01].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[01].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_MODULATE_DIFFUSE TextureStage[01].StageAlphaOp=TEXTURE TextureStage[02].TextureName= TextureStage[02].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[02].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[02].ReflectionMapping=TRUE TextureStage[02].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_BLEND_TEXTURE_ALPHA TextureStage[02].StageAlphaOp=DIFFUSE Thanks in advance Quote
Fubar512 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Those waves look just a tad too big....is there a dry Typhoon taking place? Anyway, the issue is here (edit first three sections of the terrain_data.ini to match) [TerrainMesh] TextureThreshold=0.80 LowDetailMeshThreshold=0.50 MedDetailMeshThreshold=0.30 TileToHeightGridRatio=4 RenderMeshVertexCount=16384 RenderMeshIndexCount=16384 SolidObjectVertexCount=16384 SolidObjectIndexCount=16384 AlphaObjectVertexCount=16384 AlphaObjectIndexCount=16384 [HeightField] DetailScale=1.0 DetailFrequency=1.0 MaxHeight=1000 MinHeight=-0.5 [HeightOffset] NonTexturedMesh=-10.0 LowDetailMesh=-1.0 TexturedMesh=-5.0 DetailedMesh=0.1 LowDetailMesh=-1.5 WaterMesh=0.9 1 Quote
+Piecemeal Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 Followed your instructions, Fubar. Seas are still a wee bit on the 'choppy' side at Muthala harbour ...... BTW, would the fact that I'm using Polaks 'Desert2' terrain have any effect on this? Quote
Fubar512 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) BTW, would the fact that I'm using Polaks 'Desert2' terrain have any effect on this? Ah....that's his terrain with "flat" choppy water... That tileset was probably released 2-3 years before we had water and terrain shaders. The problem is that the water shader effect appears to be at its best when presented against a backdrop of a solid, dark, water tile, as the shader effect itself is almost transparent. Wrench Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 looks like it's time to break out Photoshop, and make some new tiles, eh??? Oh, and don't forget the sea/land transition tiles too!!! You can probably use the alpha's off the 08+ level stock tiles (delete originals, create new channel, copy/paste from the stock ones), and adjust the 'land' (or black areas) with the clone stamp tool. wrench kevin stein Quote

The last time I tried making new tiles it was a disaster on my part Maybe I'll just stick with having the water settings at 'Medium'. Thanks for your help anyway lads. Quote
