Weak sounding spandau after HitR expansion?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed the change in the sound of the spandau machine guns after the HitR expansion? Before, the spandau was a robust sounding effect although the rate of fire may have been a bit low. I found myself fixating on the new weak spandau gun sounds in combat and was not able to concentrate on flying remembering how great the German guns sounded before HitR.

Or maybe it's just me and my ancient Audigy2 ZS soundcard? Anyway... I dug into my backup folder and found an older spandau .wav and modified it to sound like it's firing a bit faster (I assume that a faster firing gun was what the dev's had in mind when they changed it).

Here's the file if anyone wants to try it. It's in no way meant to be historically accurate, or even close to what a real spandau might sound like, but it is made from a file that was used in OFF patch 5 with a few tweaks for more fun. At least now I can fly and fight without loss of concentration every time I fired those puny sounding guns.

Just drop the file into your /sounds folder after backing up your original.

I think, that the devs also have considered, that the guns in a flying craft may not be heard

much louder than this. You have the constant drone of the engine, and the wind streaking

over your wings and helmet's surfaces, and maybe you would have carried ear plugs.

Just a reminder guys, if you use files from OFF and alter them for use in OFF, then please add a credit for original belonging to OBD and a link to our webpage at least. Thanks.

This mod is not just a louder sound, it's a completely different gun sound. Of course if you are completely happy with the current spandau sound then by all means continue on in your contentment. I was hoping those who commented would have a least tried it first.

Now available in the downloads section here as well.

Mods are fine as long as it's noted the file came from OFF. Please note the original file belongs to OBD Software and solely for the use in Over Flanders Fields. It cannot be used elsewhere without permission from OBD Software.

Winston please add that to the readme as requested above - thanks.

It's not possible to edit my posts or I would add new links with your requirements. If you want to delete the external links in my original post that would be fine. I have since uploaded the mod with OBD credit to the OFF section at combatace. I think anyone who wants the file will be able to find it easily there.
