Mechwarrior 3

Recommended Posts

I watched the Mechwarrior 5 trailer on youtube the other day, and it gave me the desire to march around in a completely unnecessary, huge, beast of a robot blasting things with less efficiency than what most of our current conventional weapons are capable of.

So, the only way to satisfy this craving was to bust out my MW3 CD and reinstall it. I was actually very pleasantly surprised how well the graphics look and how well the game plays, for something that's 10 years old. If you set up the controls right, it plays very well on a laptop even without an external mouse or joystick.

Any other mech drivers out there? If anyone does decide to blow the dust off this old game, make sure to check out mechwarrior3.org for some patches and fixes for common XP issues.

I never had a computer during Mechwarrior3's heyday.

I first became involved during the Mechwarrior4Mercenaries era. As a matter of fact, i have everything comepletely updated to the latest MekPak and would be dropping everyday if i was able to get past the my Ruckus MM211 wireless. I can see the lobby, but i can't join due to something in the Ruckus. some kind of firewall built into it. I haven't found a way to bypass it.

I still fire Mercs up every once in a while and do a campaign so i can fight on Solaris.

I never played MW4. I have a copy, but can't get it to run without a no-cd crack, which I can't find. I've heard MW4 had better graphics, but that MW3 was a better "Mech Sim".

Check around.

Microsoft made MW4 free last year. Actually, i would suggest looking in Mektek first. Perhaps sometime soon i'll look into dealing with the Ruckus, because it's been ages since i dropped.

Just reinstalled my MW4 plus the BK expansion and Mercs...runs just fine on a Win7 64-bit machine, and even throw in the enbseries mod to boot...

Check around, the patches you need are out there.

Last time I played it was when I still had Win2k Pro as my OS... sadly, haven't been able to get it running in high-rez under WinXP so haven't fired it up in a while... but yeah, MW3Gold rawks... haven't even tried MW4, didn't like the limitations in terms of customization they put in that one... plus that rigid aimpoint was argument enough for me not to try it... nah, I stick to MW3, and hope that Assault Tech 1: Battletech (a remake of MW2) comes along nicely so I can play MW again nicely and with high-rez...

You said MS made it freely available? I'll have to check into that.

Well, I've tried every MW4 No CD link I can get off of google, and haven't found anything that works.

However, after looking into the free release a little more, it looks like it's true, but a little behind schedule. I'll just wait and play MW3 in the meantime.

Just wait till MW4 and all the rest will be available then you won't miss out a thing of MW4. I for one am going to skip it and go right to AT1:BT (but not atm since it's waaay too buggy) or just wait till MW 3015 comes out...

I still play MW3; I feel it more closely follows the Battletech books, regarding weaponry effectiveness, and the Omni capabilities of the OmniMechs. MW4's hardpoint system seems more fitting for non-Omni types, and it just seems to take a lot longer to kill an opposing 'Mech. I think MW2 is still my favorite, though, just because of the nostalgia factor. I still play that using DOSBox. This new one should prove quite interesting.

After messing with both MW3 and MW4, I can say for certain that I prefer MW3. It just feels more like I'm driving a huge beast of a robot. MW4 reminded me too much of the Mech Assault games on xbox.
