Smokin256 0 Posted February 11, 2010 Greetings fellow simmers! I recently picked up CFS3 from the bargain bin with an eye towards getting into O.F.F. And I find I have a few questions if I might. #1, I have TrackIR 1 and I was able to get it working in vanilla CFS3 with the use of TIR Attack v1.6. I see in the FAQ that BHaH and HitR require the newest TrackIR software to work. I assume this is for TrackIR with 6DoF. This is not an option for TrackIR 1. 2.12 is the latest software one wants to use with TrackIR 1. Does anyone know if TrackIR 1 and TIR Attack still works with O.F.F.? #2, I find that the prop disc in certain planes tends to vanish and/or flash when looking straight ahead. It's ok when looking to the sides slightly. Looking through the FAQ it appears that this is a problem in O.F.F. as well. (Maybe even worse since the props are even closer to the eyepoint). Is this the case? Has anyone found a fix or work-around? Maybe a completely transparent prop texture so that it's not so distracting? And third, my wingmen often crash on landing. I find I don't dare let them land for fear they will leave a smoking hole in the runway. Actually this is a particularly troublesome problem for me. CFS2 suffered from this. And it's one of the reasons I swore I'd never buy another microsoft flight sim many years ago. Is this a problem in O.F.F. as well? Thanks in advance for any insight gents! :) Cheers.................Smokin256
Olham 164 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) Well, firstly: welcome here, Smokin256! #1: Not sure how TrackIR 1 worked. Do you have three reflectors on a base cap screen, like that? Then it should work. And you could still try and download the software for TrackIR 4 or even 5; the hardware might work with it? #2: Never noticed a problem with that (ATI RADEON X1900 and now 4870 Graphic cards) #3: The wingmen sometimes make it, sometimes not. Depends a lot on the airfield; whether there are surrounding trees or hill slopes. I had a Fokker Eindecker campaign once, and flew with landings included. Needs more time; my wingmen flew away from the field after last waypoint, and then they returned all neatly lined up, and landed, one after the other. They all made it - it was a hearttouching sight! But let me assure you: you won't find any other, more immersive sim about WW1! Edited February 11, 2010 by Olham
Von Paulus 8 Posted February 11, 2010 Welcome! #2 Never happened with me. #3 I just land and exit mission; don't wait for my wingmen to land. So I really don't know.
Winston DoRight 3 Posted February 12, 2010 On the propdisc; it's all but nonexistant in OFF. Infrequently you can see your own from the cockpit if you look to the side slightly, but it's not distracting. Once you get used to the fact that it's not visible looking straight ahead, you get used to it. For me it was dearly missed as I found the propdisc graphic most pleasing in CFS3/ETO. All propdiscs are visible externally.
Bullethead 12 Posted February 12, 2010 I recently picked up CFS3 from the bargain bin with an eye towards getting into O.F.F. And I find I have a few questions if I might. First off, welcome aboard! New guys buys the drinks! I can't answer your TIR question because the oldest version I've ever had was #4. I suspect you can find that pretty cheap now that TIR5 is out. I see the prop disk just fine, so perhaps it's a v-card/driver/display settings thing? I have an nVidia 8800 of some sort. Is this a problem in O.F.F. as well? I've never bothered to find out 1 way or the other. OFF wingmen fly a HUGE traffic pattern, like into the next county, so it takes them like 10-15 minutes to make their approach. I don't have the patience to wait for them, so I just land as soon as I get home and end the mission with them disappearing into the distance.

catch 81 Posted February 12, 2010 What are you smoking? Can I have some? You're right WDR. The prop disc is not visible in VC unless one sways to the side and then it can be intermittently seen. The devs would have fixed it long ago but it's apparently a CFS3 problem something to do with the generally shorter cowlings of WW1 aircraft over WW2 aircraft if I remember correctly. But props are now solid in outside view
Bullethead 12 Posted February 12, 2010 What are you smoking? Can I have some? I don't smoke, but I do drink . Still, I see the prop disk sober or soused.

The three dot scenerio came about when the vector expansion was added. Since then the software has not supported the earlier stuff. At least 3.xx and 4.xx didn't. I would be very surprised if 5.xx suddenly does again. At least there is no mention of it at NaturalPoint. If when you run OFF and bring up the task manager it says "combat flight simulator 3" is running then my existing setup should work just fine. But I presume it doesn't. In which case I'm probably s.o.l. #2: Interesting! So it seems that about half the people have this issue and half do not. Some with Nvidia and some with ATI. If that is in fact the case it seems that a solution should be posible. But then maybe it's just that some don't notice it or are not bothered by it. Wouldn't be the first time. I did notice that in the #11 movie on the media page at about 2:30 into it the issue is quite noticable. At least in the Typhoon in vanilla CFS3 it drives me insane. I can't fly it. #3: Ahh I hadn't thought about the wingmens traffic pattern. They do fly a long ways and in a WWI crate that would take some time. uncleal wrote: "I'd say: First thing is make sure your rig is up to the mark, or you won't enjoy it much http://www.overfland....com/sysreq.htm I say this because it's been proven time and time again Of course if it isn't, it's an excellent reason to upgrade and modernize Yeah, my machine is getting a bit long in the tooth. Being an Athlon XP3200+ with 3 gigs of ram and a 512mb X1650 pro AGP card. I'm figuring it will run BHaH just ok on lower settings. But would probably choke on HitR. Thanks again!
