Windows 7 problems

If you don't mind I to would like you to download and install Belarc Advisor.

It's a simple audit tool that will tell us what's the software you've installed in your PC.

The report will be generated in html, if you send it to me and almccoyjr (best to have two or more thinking heads) I'd appreciate.

I too find it hard that you can't run cfs3.

Belarc Advisor

Nice tool, that one, almccoyjr. Never heard.

I'd bet my last dollar that it has to do with something in Admin and Appdata.

For those of you not familiar with some of the neater things W7 has, psr.exe is a simple recorder that can take screen shots of procedures one does and the steps taken trying to solve a problem.

For various gaming problems, it's invaluable.

Here's a better info site: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090111/windows-7-problem-steps-recorder-miracle-tool/

Also take a look at this program. The Pro version is purchased, but the free version is very, very good. Think of it as Belarc on steroids. Get them both and compare; nothing to lose at all.

I've been using it for several years.

Thanks almccoyjr. Last time I used this kind of programs was a couple of years ago.

But this one seems to be really interesting. I'll take a look for sure.

Ras,

Would you please take a look at this site for info on psr.exe and record your uninstalling of CFS3 and send it to me.

I simply can't believe that you're the only one not able to run CFS3 on W7

I often believe I can be the unluckiest fellow on earth; and at times I can also be lucky. I have health, a wonderful family, but a fricking problem with OFF. Once again I salute you fellows for assiting and I know I am not finished yet. But, rather than spend many, many hours with this, I will look to ROF and WOP and the upcoming other combat sim--is it SOF? There is a point of no return and I am soon approaching. Many of you know that I was on a roll within the campaign Did when my older computer crashed. Then I replaced it and 2 months later I suffered water damage to my house and did not have a desktop computer for about 80 or so days. So, am I pissed off? Am I frustated? Heck yes, .. Have I lost patience? Yes, But if you don't hear from me again, it is because of the loss of patience. But I will always remember the assistance given me. So long.. I hope not

I certainly understand, and hope you don't.

I fly RoF as well, but for the simulator experience and because it's no longer tied to an online requirement. I tried the WoP demo but until I can use offline, I'll pass.

Water damage: floods? Our house came within 20 some inches of being flooded last Sept. It's an experience I never, ever want to go through again.

And my motto, never leave a wing man in trouble (it's not my call).

Hoping you have some luck. I had installed the demo of Wings of Prey which had some Direct X9.0 files on it....but also did as was suggested earlier and downloaded the 9.0C (can't remember what it was called now) file so I have been caught up with all the suggestions. I just hope the p4 is Win7 compatible. If it is not, I won't be able to accept issues such as this. It plainly is NOT TOLERABLE.

P3 IS Win7 Compatible and P4 is being developed on Win7 - you have a problem that has nothing to do with our product so please stop making statements like this.

CFS3 and OFF P3 can be loaded onto a brend new fresh install of Win7 and it will run (yes I have done this a few times already) - there is no need to add any other items or packs....

just a shot into the blue (or how it's called).

is it possible your monitor refreshrate is not set right? i heard when that's the case some games ctd. that would maybe explain why other games work. i also heard that's a win7 glitch because it doesn't see 60hz but only 59, though the picture is the same, but some games doesn't like the fact.

is it also possible that one of your RAM sticks is broken?

I don't think that's possible Creaghorn.

My apologies for my statement. It is like an addiction. The more you have it, the more you want and need it. I am going to leave it alone for a while and will check back once in a while for any thoughts or ideas.

No problem - there are many folks here that are able and willing to help - just keep perspective and I am sure your problem will be resolved.

Just to re-iterate OFF P3 and P4 are Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 compatible.

Ras, I understand your frustration. I wish I could offer some assistance myself, but what I know of Windows 7 wouldn't fill a thimble. Hope you can get it sorted out soon and climb back into the OFF skies. Best of luck Sir.

Lou, and others. Thanks for the encouragement. I am up and running, thanks to all for your assistance and especially to almccoyjr. Each and everyone that helps out a fellow flier/comrade should be applauded. A great community of members. I hope to get in the swing of things soon. Right now I am so amazed at the smoothness of running on a new computer/graphics card, I am flying with my mouth open. Ras

Well, almccojr would have to explain it in detail , but for one thing, I did not do a clean uninstall of my registry and some other items. I had always thought I was doing that, but was far off in what it all entailed. I made some notes so that if I ever have to go thru this again (forbid that) I would hope I could handle it. Thanks again.

It was a bad initial install; however, not a typical one and one that can and will happen again to anyone.

Ras had installed CFS3 and had problem getting the game to run. This was followed by OFF install and subsequent problems. Several more uninstall/reinstall attempts were made without any success. After many forum suggestions failed and after my last procedure on how to do a clean uninstall didn't work, Ras and I agreed to get together using Skype and allowing me to look at his files and registry.

Ras had followed all the procedures to uninstall except for purging the files written in AppData, which is a hidden file. After pointing that out, we proceeded to unhide the file, but it took me several seconds trying to remember just where that was done!!! We both were having "older" moments. How often do you modify folder appearances or unhide one? Just once maybe and afterward, that's water long under the bridge...lol.

Got that taken care of. Docs, files, and registry were cleaned and CFS3 installed uneventfully. Patched to 3.1 and went to run the game; no go. It wouldn't run. Checked compatibility and Admin again and tried unsuccessfully one more time. So we went into CFS3, brought up config and I had Ras change only his resolution. CFS3 then ran "just fine".

Ras then went on to install OFF, updates, HiTR and updates and was to let me later how it went.

CFS3 would not auto-config for initial start and run. When the config file was opened, it showed that CFS3 was initially configured, even though it had not done so properly. The ONLY way to have known this was to have run the game first!

A run-time error developed after Ras's initial OFF install; I had suspected this might happen, but wasn't absolutely sure this would be the case. The run-time error has nothing to do with OFF, but has to do with the CFS3 auto-config not properly taking place. Run-time errors are 90%+ update errors do to a registry entry not being properly directed to a .dll file thus not completing a function. In this case it has to do with CFS3update entry under OBDSoftware. OFF uses some CFS3 files; think of OFF as being an UPDATE to CFS3 even though OFF is an application. This particular run-time error is more annoying than anything else and won't affect OFF in any way.

So I'm looking for a free .dll/reg cleaner to repair the run-time error for Ras. I've downloaded and tried 4 so far to correct an error I've induced on my system, but don't like the hoops you have to jump through. When I find a good, straightforward program that works without bs, I'll get it to Ras and he'll finally be finished.

Somewhere, on one of Ras's CFS3 discs, there's an error that will always be present when installing with those discs. At least now it's known and can be remedied.

Moral: Run CFS3 after it's installed. You're already there. You don't have to do anything but start the game. Take 5 more minutes and make sure the initial install works properly. As Unclean said in the past, "Go fly the P-47...". You have nothing to lose except possibly a lot of frustration down the road.

Now that's about $1 worth.
