map freeze

Recommended Posts

This is not the infamous scramble mission freeze, but something far worse. It would appear that I usually have no problem with maps in other missions (and perhaps scrambles as well, haven't tried one since i tried fixing it). but after playing for periods of say 20-30 minutes (as I have been on my attempts to fly DiD standard missions, much to my displeasure) I will hit the map key (as i have been doing so for the past 20-30 minutes to watch my position) , and the sim will freeze, then bring me back to the campaign screen. I have tried adjusting the resolution of the medium and high res maps as in the cheats and tips thread, but it didn't work (and I was having such a nice flight too). I wish to solve this problem, prefferebly without a reinstall.

I'm not sure whether this is a cure, but I had the same exact problem as well. I have found that If I'm not in the cockpit, and I'm say in an outside"view" looking at the aircraft, and i hit the M key the map doesn't freeze. I'm not even sure If it works allthe time, But I did play about 4 hours wity it over the weekend and it worked ok.

Something to try anyways. Besides If i stay in cockpit view i never even see any enemies coming, all I hear is machine guns and I'm either in flames or spinning like a leaf !

I've found that some "crashes" in OFF or "crashes to desktop" in the CFS3 expansions can be reduce or eliminated by reducing the scenery and terrain sliders by one point from what you're currently using. This has just recently come to our attention after many hours of multiplayer flying. I expect it can be a beneficial tip for single player as well, or at least worth a try for you.

Memory overload, Map is large and can tip some configurations over the edge. Trim down background apps, and reduce sliders on terrain and scenery.
