Geary Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Hi All, I have a couple of planes that have black thin wire lines attached to them. Does anyone know what causes these lines and how to get rid of them? Thanks, Geary Quote
+Dave Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 The only way to get rid of them is to remark them out. One of the causes is a hole in the model of the plane itself. Which plane is it? Quote
+Wrench Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 yah, we call it "the tractor beam". Like Dave said, it's caused by defects in the physical LOD itself, and cannot be fixed without rebuilding it in 3D Max. The only way to get rid of it, is to get rid of the shadown statement in teh aircraft main ini. Thusly: (our example is Ajundair's F-104A) [AircraftData] AircraftFullName=F-104A Starfighter --snipification to remove other, no relevant stuff-- [LOD001] Filename=F-104A.lod Distance=1000 [LOD002] Filename=F-104A_01.lod Distance=4000 [LOD003] Filename=F-104A_02.lod Distance=8000 [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE <-- change this to read FALSE ShadowLOD=F-104a_shadow.shd ShadowType=1 ShadowCastDist=10000 MaxVisibleDistance=400 btw, if one has access to a pre-08 game (ie: one patched at the 06 level), one can extract the SHD file for the relevant aircraft (for example, AJ's F-104A,) and use the F-104G_Shadow.shd. This DOES work. However, on some it absoulutely will not, so commenting out the shadow statment AND switching to FALSE is the only alternative. wrench kevin stein Quote
Geary Posted August 21, 2010 Author Posted August 21, 2010 Thanks Guys, Wrench, your adjustment to the aircraftdata.ini files took care of the lines. Which didn't really change anything because apparently they weren't casting shadows anyway (reminded me of my ex-wife ). Dave, The planes were the Razbam Banshees and MontyCZ's F-89C Scorpion. Thanks, again Geary Quote
+Dave Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 they weren't casting shadows anyway (reminded me of my ex-wife ). Sounds like my mother in law..... Quote
