Original German Goggles at Ebay

This item is said to be original from that time. I read somewhere, that in the days of WW1 aviation,

there were no specific googles made for aviator, and they used motorbike goggles.

If that is true, you can sell any motorbike goggles as original WW1 pilot goggles?

It appears to refer to WW2 in the description..though as I am using Google Translate..It could be mistaken?

Don't know what you get there, old boy, but in the German Ebay page, it says clearly "1. Weltkrieg", which means WW1.

Well, you can say anything you want when selling items at eBay. They may be real, or not. But that's an awful lot of money for a pair of s*itty goggles. Just my opinion, of course.

But even here, in the same Jasta (11 ?*) they are wearing different ones.

You are right about the goggles Olham they were privately purchaced also the 1915 patern flieced coat that was issued to Flight troops was originaly issued to track drivers.

Who do you think is Voss? I think he had to be dead by the time this movie was taken (IMO early 1918).

That pic of MvR clearly shows why Rutger Hauer would have made a very convincing Red Baron!!

I have a pair of what were purported to be WW1 German goggles. I don't know if they are or not, but judging by the state of the elastic they look to be quite old. They fold up and are in a box. They actually look like some of those worn in the movie "Flyboys"

The shape looks British to me...but may well be worn by a German pilot as RFC equipment was much favored by the other side...

I may be wrong about the date and probably am, as I found a beter footage of the same movie session and the lighting conditions implaying a bright sunny day, no spec of snow in the horison so...

It's not Voss. I had a conversation with someone here awhile back about this guy. I can't recall his name off of the top of my head. I remember the conversation because I said that he looked like "Bill S. Preston, Esquire" (Alex Winter) of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure fame. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I have uploaded both MvR videos to my mediafire folder. They have (.flv) abrevation.

I play them with vlc player which is free.

The footage is well known and I think, also included in WWI in color and 4 Years of Thunder DVDs.

I seem to recall a few years back, they had an auction on Ebay a piece of wing fabric ( Supposidly from a WW1 German Aircraft ), 18" X 36". It went for 900 USD

 

Sounds like an excellent business. Maybe I should start painting pieces of fabric green and sell them at eBay for ridiculous prices.
