Dutchy Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Even RC models aren't save for terrorists. What sad for the guys that build that big (scale ?/?) plane. It looks good when it flew. Salute Dutchy Quote
Nesher Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 wow... i saw pics of this baby it looked good too bad for the crash =\ Quote
Foofighter Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Fates, If that had of been me I would have been one pissed off B-52 owner! Could you imagine how much that thing cost? I once bought an A-7E kit from Jet Hangar Hobbies whith a Turbax 1 fan and a K&B engine (this was before they had mini jets for sale) but I never got had the time to build it. Sold the kit and engine but I still have the Fan. If I ever hit the lottery thats what I would do though, build me a nice A-7E with a real mini jet in VA-66 colors. I feel bad for the guy, do you think that someone just really shot it down or was it a stunt? Foo Quote
+Fates Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 From my POV, these guys made a piss poor decisision to launch the RC with overcast weather and a ceiling of what looks to be about 2000 Ft AGL. The winds must have been nasty for the RC and flight planning should have been essential. They simply made too many mistakes, just like in real life, and it crashed.... I think it was the weather, .....but it could have been a mechanical...it just doesn't appear to me that it was from the footage. <C> Fates Quote
Foofighter Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I agree, I just took a second look at the pic where it looks like someone shot at it and the pic looks a little fake. Fuzzy too not as clear as the other pics. Foo Quote
+pcpilot Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I agree Fates, bad flight planning. they made a turn with the wind that gave them a very strong tailwind. Then it appeared they tried a hard turn back into the wind. The real early model B52 had a problem with high angle turns like that, I wonder if it didnt translate into the model as well. That was my first thought. I think the AA fire picture is the owners idea of laughing off his loss. Sure would bum my poor backside to lose all that time and money. Personally, I woulda made room for a passenger, namely me. Of course the crash woulda been a bit rugged... Quote
Growler67 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 It appeared to me that the photo was in fact a fake. Perhaps it was a way of passing the tension of having lost such an investment. It is always sad when any aircraft goes down. Quote
Scout_51 Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 gotta admit tho,it was one serious looking model... Quote
