GunnySonics 127 Posted January 2, 2011 Here's a thought I had today whilst reading a book about cold war military aircraft:- Imagine for a moment that the UK had not been a member of NATO after WW2, imagine we decided to become a member of the Warsaw Pact!!! For the likes of myself growing up at RAF bases in the 70's and 80's I may have been watching TU95's flying around Scampton and MiG 23 Floggers flying over RAF Machrihanish, how different our country would have looked in the skies. Dont get me wrong team, Im not saying it would be a good thing, I am actually in the Royal Navy (20 years to date) so I am a patriot through and through, im just saying how different our skies would have looked through the last 40 years!!! Just a strange thought........give me the Vulcan, Hunter, Phantom and Bucanneer any day!!!
Freiwillige 1 Posted January 3, 2011 Yes Indeed but Churchill would never let that happen let alone the English people.
Capitaine Vengeur 263 Posted January 3, 2011 But perhaps Atlee could have, Freiwilige. Well, I can just imagine the RAF cap with the red star in place of the golden crown. Brrr... Gunny, as a child, you may have spent some time to determinate if the bleached-face military drunkards at the local pubs, with a weird language putting a strong accent on the "r", were actually either Scottish soldiers or Russian advisors... MigBuster 2,884 Posted January 3, 2011 It wouldn't have just been the skies different - we would have been like cuba - a backwards island cut off from countries around us. Still look on the bright side - we might have joined NATO when Poland did - and thus got us some nice new F-16C Block 52s - result
