GunnySonics Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I noticed that in SF2 Isreal there is no air base in Cyprus although Cyprus is on the map. Historically RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus has played a pivotal role in the middle east since the 1950's till present day. I lived there from 1984-1987 and saw alot of air activity including the CIA U2 which was based there and would fly recon missions over Syria, Isreal, Egypt, Libya and so on, I also saw the F111's land to refuel after bombing Libya in 1986 (Operation El dorado). I think it would be great if a modder could place an air base on the island, it would make SF2 Isreal more historically accurate, as the Royal Air Force flew missions from here during the Suez Crisis, the Yom Kippur War, Gulf War 1 & 2 as did the US Air Force for the latter conflicts. Reference Sources RAF Akrotiri on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia....ki/RAF_Akrotiri Operation El Dorado http://en.wikipedia....ombing_of_Libya U2 Spyflights over Lebanon http://www.buzzbox.c...usterId=2597161 U2 Spyflights during Yom Kippur http://www.guardian....ndition-torture RAF Akrotiri CIA Factbook https://www.cia.gov/...ok/geos/ax.html U2 taking off from Akrotiri Canberra's Vulcans at Akrotiri I think you might agree that by placing an air base at Cyprus for SF2 Isreal opens up alot of possibilities for many more custom missions??? However I am no where near good enough to create this mod so hopefully some other talented map modding guru will take the idea on if theres enough intrest?? Quote
Gunrunner Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Oh yes, if only someone made a War for Independence or Suez Crisis campaign (hint : that was a link). Quote
+PureBlue Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I got a stock airfield placed for Akrotiri, on the upcoming Anatolia terrain.. If somebody else takes the project I'll implement it in.. Or I'll be designing this from ground up in the future.. Can't give a time frame for it though, probably be released with a 74 Cyprus campaign.. Quote
+ST0RM Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Isn't Akrotiri used for live weapons training also? Maybe relocate "The Range" there also. Quote

Maybe relocate "The Range" there also. i dont know if it still is, i remember watching the lightnings and phantoms on the range from my school back in 85, impressive sight. I would not like to be the pilot flying the canberra towing the target with a bunch of Phantoms chasing him though, balls of steel for that job!! +Gepard Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Akotiri, Larnaka, Kingsfield and Paphos are included in Suez2 terrain. They are set as neutral, but could be easily changed into Friendly to make them active. Quote
Wrench Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 F0r the SF2I Suez crisis package, I "rebuilt" parts of Cyprus, adding Akrotiri and Paphos. I'll have to look for the link ... but it's easily added to any IsraelME terrain, either 1stGen or Next (SF2) Unfortunatley, all the others are either too close or behind "The Wall" here's the link: http://combatace.com/files/file/11024-1948-war-for-independence1956-suez-crisis/ covers 48 and 56 wars I run this mod in a seperate mods folder, using the SF2I Exp1 exe. Keeps things nice and segregated; meaning ONLY the era-specific goodies are available. but the terrain bits are usable in all wrench kevin stein Quote
