Did it come with a readme file???

Unfortunately, to access it (assuming there is one -and there more than likely IS) you'll have to d/l it first

Then unzip the thing into a temp folder (is best), read the readme, and follow the install instructions therein.

If it's not to you liking for whatever reason, delete it.

The 'readme' is the single most important, and most heavily OVERLOOKED file for any download. Many reaaaallllllyyy old mods may not have none or have one that is exceedingly minimal. In any case, it's essential that one does read it.

Also, since you're new to the SF/Wo* series, I'd personally reccomend spending some time in our Knowledge Base

http://combatace.com/forum/99-thirdwire-woewoiwovsf-1-knowledge-base/

Starting with the first post/thread and read them ALL.

And, my favorite reccomendation: do NOT add mods right off. Play the stock, un-fiddled-with game for a few weeks to get familiar with the game systems, folder structures, ini structures, any and all small utililties (like the Cat Extractor -which you WILL be using), BEFORE starting to add things to game. Gain experience with it first, then start adding mods.

No it didn't have a readme file , it was all in code, down loaded it from this site, used generic enabler it didn't work, I've modded other sims but I don't know how to load beta into a sim. just got done modding janes WW2 fighters turned that game around. I'm an old prop head, would like to see how the spit would look like in strike fighter format.

NP!!

can you post the link to the d/l???. Shouldn't be any 'code', maybe some inis, maybe a terrain; it'll definately be zipped up to compress it.

Also, if it needs a Spitfire (since I'm the HeadPropHead here, I know pretty much where everything is), you'll need to sign up with the Dev A-Team, as they have 85+% of the WW2 aircraft (allied AND axis). Other than those in Wolf's WW2 plane pak, or even some by me don't have the LOD in it them, due to "regulations".

http://cplengineeringllc_bb.cplengineeringllc.com/Forum/index.php?sid=d13c8446379546f32d69516a4ece53ec

Follow the instructions in the Files and Boards Policies on that 1st page. You'll need 2 passwords; 1 for the board, ther other for d/ls.

and the other VERY important thing ... 99.99999999% of the WW2 mods are designed for the 06 patch level. They get all kinds of f***ed up in te 08/SF2 due to all sorts of stuff and things. Also, a LOT of teh models are very old (2003-05) and have some 'visual diffincies' on more modern installs. We're working on it, but it's a long road...

Don't forget, we've got a PropHead forum down below too!

RAR is a type of archive format, like a zip file. Use 7-zip or WinRAR to open it.

DO NOT patch beyond the 06 level!!! It'll turn ALL your aircraft in uncontrolable spinning tops.

Also, don't forget you'll need ALL the RAF & LW bombers aircraft from the DAT site, the BoB terrain from here, etc.

the game WILL crash or lock up if it missing something its looking for/needs to run to mod. Which, unfortunately you'll have to get first.

remember, too, this is desinged for a stand-alone WW2 ETO game install. You can find out how to create one here:

Hi yubba,

Thanks for your interest in the old BoB campaign, it was the culmination of lot of hard work by many of the talented modders round here.

Sorry for not replying sooner, RL etc, you know.

There are very detailed installation instructions included with the package. They are also listed right on the campaign file download page, just scroll down and you will see the whole thing. I reproduce them here for ease of reference (See below)

Scroll down to the section headed "INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS" for detailed, step by step instructions on how to install it. The readme also includes download links for most of the files which are not included in the package. The main exceptions are the DAT aircraft files, which by choice of the builder are available only at his site.

I know it is a bit of a headache to set up, especially if you are new to setting up mods in WoX series, but believe me I would never release a mod without detailed installation instructions - the mighty Wrench would never let me hear the end of it for one thing

Read through the instructions, if you have any trouble following them, ask away.

Tally-ho!,

********************************************************************************************

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Install SFP1/WoV/WoE

(For WoV & WoE follow Wrench's instructions to create an era-specific install - see KB at combatace)

2. Patch up to v 083006

3. Delete all stock aircraft

4. Install the DAT aircraft listed above

5. Install Wrench's WW2 wep pak.

6. Install Gepard's BoB terrain v1.4. For detailed instructions on how to do this, see the readme file for the terrain.

7. Copy the Battle of Britain campaign mod files to the relevant folder of your new install. The simplest thing is to retain the file structure and copy the unpacked files over. Items in the Campaigns, Flight, Menu, Missions, Objects and Objects/Aircraft, PilotData, Sounds and Terrain folders go into those same folders in your new install. The options.ini file goes into your main Strike Fighters folder. When asked to overwrite existing files, say "Yes" each time. YOU DID BACK UP THOSE FILES LISTED ABOVE, DIDN'T YOU?

8. Copy the file Hurricane-R10D.LOD from the Hurricane1 folder into the Hurricane2A folder.

9. Copy all the Spitfire .LOD files from the Spitfire1A folder into the Spitfire2A folder.

10. That's it. Battle of Britain should now be available at the campaign menu. Happy hunting!

********************************************************************************************

KNOWN ISSUES:-

1. Finally sorted out the "random movement of air units" bug. That was the main problem which meant this campaign was a beta release. You should now see a lot more air activity on both sides.

2. Victory conditions.

"Winning" a campaign depends on your Force capturing the enemy Base node. So the best the RAF can hope for is a lose or a stall. No invasion of Fortress Europe in 1940! As for the Luftwaffe, well. . .

3. The RAF fly a lot of intercept missions, and they're hard. Good luck! Use high energy boom and zoom attacks, or frontal attacks for best results. Try to keep your wingies alive. Remember this is a war of attrition, so kills matter. Ignore Bitchin' Betty when she tells you to RTB, mission failed. Finish off those bombers!

As an extra hint, the campaign engine does not fix intercept waypoints very efficiently. If you rely on them, you will not intercept bomber formations until they are on top of their target - by which time it's too late. Use planning map to move your waypoints to show the most direct route between waypoint 2 and your objective point. Then use Red Crown to give you the best vector to your target. Intercept those bombers while they are still out there!

4. In order to make the phased campaign work properly, I have brought forward the front-line operational dates of certain squadrons (303, 310, 603 and 1 RCAF) to the start of July 1940. This is clearly non-historical. However, having later start dates meant that the timings of the phased campaign were thrown out of kilter, so I chose this as the lesser of two evils.

********************************************************************************************

Credits:-

Thanks to Gepard, the A-team, RussoUK2004, Kesselbrut, allenjb42, Pasko, Bunyap, Charles, Kout, Cellinsky, swayne64, pcpilot, CA_Stary, B Bandy RFC, George (Geo) and, of course TK and Thirdwire.

Let me also express my grateful thanks to those Devs and modders listed above who have granted permission to allow their work to be included in this package. That makes installation a whole lot easier! And, of course, without their work, this campaign would, quite simply, not exist. Thanks to all!

If I have missed anyone out please let me know and I will add your name, with my apologies.

Orders of Battle and Unit strengths are taken from the appendices to "The Most Dangerous Enemy - A History of the Battle of Britain" by Stephen Bungay, ISBN 1-85410-801-8. Thoroughly recommended for those with an interest in the Battle of Britain.

*****************************************************************************************

Legal Notice:-

You are not permitted to re-distribute any of the 3rd-party files included in this package without the prior written consent of the owner of the file concerned.

Modding of the campaign files written by baltika for the free use of the community is, however, actively encouraged. Share your results. But if anyone is planning a payware BOB conversion, don't you dare use any of the campaign files in this mod for your bloodsucking financial gain, unless you make me a decent offer first ;-)

Tally-ho, chaps!
