Parky 8 Posted April 23, 2011 Olham, Do yourself (and us...lol) a favour. Go here: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ You can either grab the installer which will install this utility as a program, or you can choose the standalone version for your particular OS type (32-bit/64-bit). Run this proggie before the overclock to see what your normal idle temps are. Run your overclock and check the temperatures at idle again and let us know how it looks. 3.7 is quite tame for that processor and I wouldn't anticipate any significant temperature increases, but it's always wise to be cautious regardless of wether you're using manual or auto overclocking methods. Cheers, Parky
carrick58 23 Posted April 23, 2011 Here's for Parky and von Paulus - with a big Thank you for all your advice. The biggest Thank You went for my friend Roland, who also made good choices, and built the rig. I had promised to send some "porn" from my new rig, so here it is - naked! Mmuahahahahahaaaaaa!!!! Running the sim plus TrackIR fine! CPU: Intel i5 QuadCore (2500k) CPU cooler: CORSAIR Hydro H50 water cooling Mobo: ASUS P8P67 (Revision B3) Memory: 4 GB GSKILL DDR3 The graphic card is still the ATI HD4870 (1 GB), which seems enough for my 1680 x 1050 monitor. I will make an upgrade there later. Loks like U will max out the graphics. My wife just poped in and said " She never saw anything that big before " Women U cant win. Olham 164 Posted April 23, 2011 Okay, will do, Parky. Thanks for the link. My wife just poped in and said " She never saw anything that big before " Women U cant win. Looks like you gotta upgrade, Carrick!
ReDDoT 0 Posted April 23, 2011 Thank you very much for the pilot picture(s) Olham, The other picture is busy right now
Lewie 7 Posted April 23, 2011 Gah! you all win, my system is a mere pup compared to these heavyweights, I'm not sure I can even overclock my CPU or the GPU. But that's OK I get about 40 fps averages with active weather, numerous flak bursts and a few aircraft in the screen.
Olham 164 Posted April 23, 2011 Parky, what max. temperature should I allow for the CPU? (Seems I can chose in the menue - it's now on 98° Celsius). Good to see you enjoying your campaign log, ReDDoT. You picked the Eindecker - going the tough way, eyh?

Von Paulus 8 Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) Parky, what max. temperature should I allow for the CPU? (Seems I can chose in the menue - it's now on 98° Celsius). For 2500k Tcase=72.6ºC For TJ max I don't know. I check my temperatures from month to moth, just in case. Never reached TCase so far even on heavy load. What's the temperature now in min and max (after loading)? Edit: I just read that TJ max is 98. Keep it that way Olham. Edited April 23, 2011 by Von Paulus
Olham 164 Posted April 23, 2011 Yes, it says 98° there. My max. temperature so far was 65° - no overclocking yet.
Von Paulus 8 Posted April 23, 2011 65 playing with OFF or another game? You should download a cpu stress program, like Prime 95, OCCT or other. I use OCCT. That will push more from the CPU that any game, and it's a way to test how safe is your overclock and see how temperatures rise with full load. But Parky know more about this things than me. ReDDoT 0 Posted April 24, 2011 Parky, what max. temperature should I allow for the CPU? (Seems I can chose in the menue - it's now on 98° Celsius). Good to see you enjoying your campaign log, ReDDoT. You picked the Eindecker - going the tough way, eyh? Dear Olham, I don`t like the Eindecker I think in August are the Halberstadt`s coming. Flying Jasta5... BTW, Why do you want to overclock your PC? I think there is no need. It`s a powerful engine you have. Greetings
Olham 164 Posted April 24, 2011 I don`t like the Eindecker I think in August are the Halberstadt`s coming. Flying Jasta5... Jasta 5 is a great unit to fly with, and the Halberstadt is the first German good fighter craft in OFF. One can fly the aircraft chronologically, or one can fly the easier to fly aircraft first, and come to the others later. The Eindecker would be the last German fighter to try then. All others are easy, except for the Fokker Dr.1, which can be a bit more tricky, because it is an "instable aircraft". BTW, Why do you want to overclock your PC? I think there is no need. It`s a powerful engine you have. I will not necessarily overclock. But I want to try it out, to see, if the performance will improve even more. If I won't see any noticable difference, I will go back to "default".
ReDDoT 0 Posted April 25, 2011 Do not forget thermal paste Olham I am thinking to upgrade my processor in a few days. My 2.5 GHz with 2MB is not enough sometimes. The new one: Intel E8500 (Dual Core, 3.16Ghz, Socket 775, 6MB, 65W, 1333Mhz)

The new one: Intel E8500 (Dual Core, 3.16Ghz, Socket 775, 6MB, 65W, 1333Mhz) That was my last processor before replacing it i5-750. It's a good processor for OFF. ReDDoT 0 Posted April 25, 2011 That was my last processor before replacing it i5-750. It's a good processor for OFF. Dear Von Paulus, Good to know! Thanks. Now I can sleep well Because I am upgrading my pc only for OFF.
Olham 164 Posted April 25, 2011 Yes, the sacrifices we make for OFF... My upgrade was not cheap, but it was worth it! Now I can run the sim plus TrackIR plus FRAPS to make videos. I saved a while for that. You should be able to overclock it a bit, if necessary, ReDDoT.

Never tried it with that CPU.
ReDDoT 0 Posted April 27, 2011 My fatherboard has LGA775 Socket. I think thats the best processor in his category. For a better processor I have to change my mobo and have to buy new DDR3 sdram = $$$ Thats why I am going the cheapest way. My OFF is running perfect now 5-3-3-5-5 with stoned 30 fps. My target is one up with scenery slider and 40+ fps. I hope I can do it with E8500 (3.16 GHz)

UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted May 1, 2011 I was certainly sad when my 8800 O/C'd Graphics Card gave up the ghost when I upgraded to Win7...but all is fine now...what a pain that period was...a day without a PC, is like losing both your arms..a week, and you're nearly at your wits end! Lewie 7 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) I'm at a little over two weeks since my machine was first turned on. It's been going great, I've been slowly doing some small mods to it. The Gigabyte SP2 series has a small Northbridge that runs a bit warm compared to the rest of the MB and CPU, so I've mounted a little fan directly over the Northbridge heatsink. I'm getting consistently lower M'board temperatures in the Motherboard and CPU temperature monitor application. I find that it's not above 33 degrees C. for either the Northbridge or the CPU. Although when running OFF for a long time the mainboard will creep up to about 42 c. Oddly the CPU stays well below even 34 c. No monitor for the EVGA GPU though, but from just resting my finger on it when the side is off it's staying well below anything considered hot.
