I think my graphics are: ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series

 

And according to CPU-Z

 

AMD Phenom X4 9150e

 

4096 Mbytes memory.

 

I don't know what mode i'm running - or how to change it!

 

Everythings on High or Unlimited, and generally running smoothly - SF2:I was the first issue I had (though I used to get coloured flashing dots until I turned effects from unlimited to high).

I had the similar issues when SF2:I came out -my solution were to upgrade Direct X and graphics card drivers -I'll ask again, are you sure your are up to date? Have you tried low detail options (which disables most of the shaders IIRC) to check how it goes?

I definitely have the latest graphics card drivers but can't find any drivers for DX; I do however have the latest version of direct X.

 

I've reduced graphics in the past and not had the problem, but I can't work out what is causing the problem, and I wish there was a way to run it on full graphics without the anomolies as its smooth as silk!

This is actually one Thirdwire can help you with - unfortunately though its probably system limitations, graphics card memory - or if not something is wrong somewhere with Windows or your hardware.

 

 

You havent said what OS you are running? - if its 7/Vista turn off the Aero interface.

 

 

Try start -> run and type in dxdiag and see what the Dx report comes back with - it will also tell you the actual DX version you are currently running.

The Aero only works if your system is good enough - but switching the desktop theme to Vista basic should switch it off - if not thats something you can Google easily and find out all about.

Ok, done that; and DXDiag is not reporting any problems - but still getting the problem. It doesn't happen straight away, normally a few minutes into the mission.

You exceed the 128MB video memory requested - however the quoted specs are normally near the MINIMUM requirements - so speak to TW about it - because you will probably find that your system cant hack the higher settings.

 

 

So we are down to - lack of video memory, faulty hardware - it could also be the architecture on the Laptop (Assume it a laptop) slowing things down also ,or its a driver problem.

 

You could also try changing the Graphics card settings via the ATi Catalyst Control Centre - which I assume you should have - such as anti aliasing etc - but not hopeful this will change anything tbh

Its a desktop, so that eliminates that.

 

I'm still getting the problems even after reducing the graphics now. Any idea what sort of things I could drop on the Catalyst control centre to reduce chances of pushing the system too hard?

 

I notice when the sky turns black, all the flame effects dissappear aswell (explosions, afterburner, missile rocket).

Backout any changes you made to the graphics card settings.

 

Any chance of getting or borrowing another graphics card to try?

 

What rating is your PSU and do you have anything else in the PC that could be using up your power?

 

Can you see if the card is overheating?

 

Can you take the card out and try reseating it? (Only attempt if know what you are doing)

Notice how it gives it a fantastic write up - however from my own experience the card you have is just not good enough.

 

 

If the card can be tweaked to get more performance out of it (because it probably has nothing to do with the game itself or a Mod) - your best bet is go to the AMD forums and ask if anything can be done to sort this out - but I suspect you need a better card in there unfortunately.

I don't know what a PSU is, let alone how to check its rating! I'm afraid i'm a bit out of my depth here. I think i'll bite the bullet and get a new card (and get someone else to install it!)

If so is SF2E merged with SF2I or did you have them separate?

 

If they were separate were they definitely at the same patch version?

 

Do you still have SF2E - can you play it at the moment?

Its SF2E; works fine and its merged.

 

Its actually SF2E i've been using this whole time; but using the Israel Map and aircraft. This shouldn't make a difference, right?
