ANGST Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I have been flight simming for a while, mostly with LOMAC and IL-2 (and Falcon / Janes series , F-15 Strike eagle all the way back to the C64) I must say I never picked up on the SF series at all. Which one should I get first , I am thinking Europe so I can get expansion pack 2 for my quad core system ? It does not look like there is a gold version with all of them packed together :(
xclusiv8 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I started out with SF2: Europe my self. Its a good start and there is a great terrain replacement mod by stary. You wont be disappointed :)
+Heberth Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) buy all sf2 versions and do an merged install. You wont be disappointed :) or buy only the sf2E, and if you like, go to the merged install ;) Edited July 28, 2011 by cadeteBRA
+daddyairplanes Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 being a Cold War baby and having been stationed in Germany i started with SF2E. i added the other versions mainly for things to add to my europe game (P-51, Meteor, F-16, Carriers etc) but they do add quite abit of variety to ones flying. for some of the upcoming mods tho you will need all 4 merged for the full effect of them. as for now i am only missing the original SF2. but i have a birthday coming soon!
Sakai Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 When I started out it was with the first series. I got Wings over Vietnam and an FPS about spec ops in nam in a package deal. I actually wanted the FPS and didn't play WoV for almost a year. I have always loved flight sims, but at the time I was really into hard core type sims like the Flanker series and Falcon 4.0 in it's almost un-playable state. I had heard that WoV was almost like the console game Top Gun in it's simplicity, so I never even bothered. What a mistake!!! I fell in love with WoV and started to mod the crap out of it. It was the first time I modded a game, and gave me confidence to mod others with success. I bought WoE next when I thought I lost WoV and needed my fix. After that, I had to get WoI and the original SF:P1. Being well into the SF series, when SF2 came out, I decided to just start with Strike Fighters 2. I really enjoy the mercenary campaigns and can still mod the game at will. I plan on getting WoE next, for the compatibility of add-ons, but I will still likely play a ton more of the Merc campaigns.
